The original Alice was a girl thrown into a place she knew nothing about, so Twisted! Alice being a first year would do a lot to mirror that experience as they would know little about how the school would operate.

Not only that, but it would add an interesting aspect to their interactions with Riddle, who also became a Housewarden in their first year, and whether they had similar experiences or dealt with issues in certain ways.

In Book 6, Vil dives into the underworld to drag Idia out, and Hercules does the same to save Meg, even ending with both of them ageing during the process.

But also, in the original Heracles myth (Heracles is the actual Greek name for Hercules if you don’t know), one of the labours he has to do is retrieve Cerberus from the underworld, which he does with Hade’s permission, and also later returns him back to the underworld.

From what I understand, Ortho represents Cerberus, and which club does Ortho join after becoming a student? The Film Research club, aka Vil’s club! Therefore, can’t it be said that Vil retrieves and returns Ortho back to Idia for their club activities?

So I’ve been playing Twisted Wonderland for a while now because the anime came out and a lot of English va’s I know were cast, and I can’t help but love how kinda despicable some of these characters are.

Let’s look at Book 2’s story with Savanaclaw as an example. If I remember correctly, none of the guys who helped resolve the situation did so because they “didn’t want to see innocent people get hurt”. Grim (and by extension, Yu) wanted a spot in the Spelldrive tournament, Ace and Deuce wanted to show off to get on their house’s team, Riddle and Cater wanted to find out who hurt Trey, and Jack wanted an even playing field with no unfair advantages/disadvantages. And at the end, when the victims come together to ask Crowley to let Savanaclaw play, was it because they believed they’ve already suffered enough? Nope! They just want revenge and the only way to do that (without breaking any rules) is to have them play. It’s also remarked that the Savanaclaw guys didn’t learn anything from that incident (aside from maybe don’t sabotage others, but oh well 🤷).

I can think of some other examples as well, like Ace declaring an apology isn’t enough while Riddle is breaking down crying, Crowley subtly blackmailing us to solve the Octavinelle situation in Book 3, and Yu (our character insert) later threatening Leona to help them with that same situation with endless yelling every night if he didn’t.

Now, I’m not saying everyone is like this (we do have our cinnamon rolls like Riddle and Kalim), but when other media limits these characters traits to around 1-3 characters at most, it’s entertaining to see a good chunk of characters like this and gives these characters more depth. It’s also understandable when you remember that these characters are based on Disney villains, so of course they’ll act villainous.

It’s also ok to enjoy these characters outside of these aspects as well. Like, I’ve seen posts outside of Tumblr commenting on Jade in the most recent event and while they do make some good points, he is also right hand man of a mafia boss. Both are valid!
