MAN SMOKE CIGAR A Tomas Hinojal Documentary

Every man has a story in him. Some stories take a lifetime to tell while others can be told in one sentence. No matter how big or small your story, we would love to hear it. We are looking for true life stories involving your experiences with cigars. We are especially interested in the role cigars have played in building and strengthening relationships; such as fathers and sons, business relationships and new and old friendships. For me, my story began as a child always seeing my father with a cigar. He was the only man I knew who smoked cigars. I think that’s why I thought he was so special. Cigars were something unique to him and when he died when I was seventeen I carried on the tradition of smoking cigars. It was my way of keeping him alive. Some people light candles at church, I light a cigar. My father was never fancy with his cigars. He did not use a cutter, he used his teeth. He did not use a lighter either, he used wooden matches. Except the one time he lit a cigar with an ordinary bic lighter. I remember he looked at me sheepishly while he lit his cigar and told me how wrong it was to light a cigar with a butane lighter. Looking back now I can say that he did not smoke expensive cigars. I remember him mainly smoking TeAmo or other inexpensive cigars. I think the last gift I bought my father was for fathers’ day back in 1988. I got him a bottle of canoe cologne and two boxes of cheap cigars. How I wish I could’ve bought him a box of Davidoff’s, Monte Cristo’s, Arturo Fuentes or other premium cigars. As an adult it pains me to know that I can never have a great cigar with my father. I think that is why I love smoking with my friends and stranger alike. I’m always searching for those special moments shared with good people and great cigars. My story has only begun and this journey that I plan to take with my film Man Smoke Cigar will take me places that I’ve never been to. I’m hoping to meet great people and smoke plenty of great cigars. Ultimately, I hope to go to Spain and have that smoke with my father at his grave.
