Finally bringing himself to let go, Changmin stepped back from the hug and scratched the back of his head nervously, the alcohol in his system was never particularly helpful on the anxiety front. He wasn’t even sure why his anxiety was acting up, but these sort of things never made much sense. “You don’t have much to wrap up do you? I just.. I want to go as soon as possible. The sounds of the river are calming.”

Luci nodded in understanding as he listened to his little brother speak. He knew that Changmin was still a bit hesitant with showing his emotions to just anybody. Heck, it took him and his family quite some time to gain Changmin’s trust. “It’s okay, you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to and it’s late anyway. There’s bound to be a few couples here and there but I bet we could find a secluded spot,” Luci smiled, “Then you can scream and cry all that you want.”

The werewolf pulled Changmin inside the warmth of the studio for a moment as he gathered all the materials they might need for the picnic. “This will just be quick, don’t worry,” Luci assured Changmin and ruffled his hair playfully. “I’ll just clean the paintbrushes I was using and then grab a blanket then we’ll be on our way.” 

As he passed by the comfort room, his eyes were caught by the first aid kit still sitting on the counter. It was at that moment when Luci’s eyes drifted to check Changmin’s condition. It’s not uncommon for the younger man to call him after a fight and he wouldn’t admit it out loud but Luci still gets scared whenever the younger one does. He fears that one day, he’ll receive a call and be a second too late from protecting his brother. After all, losing his family was Luci’s greatest fear. “Are you hurt anywhere?” he asked as he worked the last bits of paint off of the brushes. “If you are, you need to tell me so hyung could help okay?”

“Is there any way we could do both? Just.. Go somewhere pretty and calming and cuddle and talk for a while? We can talk about anything you want, I don’t mind…”

Luci immediately engulfed his younger brother in an embrace as soon as Changmin was close enough for him to reach. He knew that Changmin still struggled over his past and all that Luci could do was to support him and give him all the love his despicable parents had deprived him of. He was just glad that Changmin chose to stumble into their home that night, glad that his younger brother trusted them enough to see his vulnerabilities.

“Of course we can!” Luci offered as his hands comfortingly rubbed the other’s back. “We can go to the Han River if you want. I’m sure there’s still a convenience store open by the river and we could have a picnic.” Pulling away from the hug so he could look at his brother’s face, Luci wiped the strands of hair away from Changmin’s forehead. “Or if you’re not up for being in public, we could just stay inside and cuddle.”

there are days where luci finds himself locked up in his studio to rush a commissioned painting or even a piece for an exhibit that a museum curator asked him to do. during those days, the man would be hard to get a hold of. the only people who could break him out of it would be his father and of course his siblings. just one message from them and he’d drop the paint brush and rush over to them

the ancient grandfather clock that was left in his studio by the former owner chimed, signalling the change of the day and at the same time, luciano’s phone lit up and he saw a few messages from his brother, changmin, and hyungi. how could he let an entire day pass by without even checking on his family? he sent a quick message to the group chat and waited outside the studio for changmin and hyungi to arrive. 

as soon as he saw a taxi nearing the location, luci stood up and smiled at the pair. “thank you for accompanying changmin here,” he bade the younger man goodbye. “so what do you want to do, minnie? do you want to go somewhere or do you just want some cuddles, hm?”

“what if he comes back for me papa? what if he hurts me again? i don’t want that! i don’t! i don’t!” little luciano sobbed as he tightly clutched his father’s shirt in his tiny hands. thunderstorms had been tough for the young werewolf ever since that night in itaewon. angelo wrapped his arms around luci and put the wolf plushie in front of the child.

“i’ll destroy anything that so much as thinks of harming you, cucciolo. i promise.”

jin’s or rather raiden’s death had been tough for all of them. however, no one had it worse than his father. luci was not blind to it and he knew how much the former second in command meant to angelo.

as soon as he was able to put hisoka down for a nap in the guest room, luciano knocked softly on the door of his father’s room. “can i come in?” he poked his head in, “i brought you a nice cup of tea.” he settled on the chair beside his father’s bed and held his hand tightly, “i promise to take care of you and hisoka from now on, papa. i’ll destroy anything that so much as thinks of harming you and hisoka. you can lean on me now. ”

it had been a couple of days since the rogue hunter attacked lupos and left luciano’s father and sister in a state of comatose. there were too many bodies that needed to be buried and too much paperwork to file yet there he was, the should be second in command, staring catatonically in front of the viewing window for the intensive care unit. “papa, i failed you and leona.” luciano muttered, a trembling hand rising up caress the glass that separated him and angelo. “almost everything we cherished is gone and i...i don’t think i can go on anymore. not without you and leona.”

with a shaky breath, luciano took one last look at his father and sister, the bottle of pills weighing heavy in his pocket.

wait for me papa, leona…i know i’m a failure but please don’t leave me alone here.

"easy, it's me." luciano smiled so brightly that the dimples on his cheeks showed. he wasn't able to do anything when the rogue hunter attacked before and if given the chance now, he'll do everything he can to keep his entire family safe.

even if it meant, dying for them.

his dad will still have hisoka, changmin, hansol, dae, and dal. they'd have each other's backs. there are already new recruits who could fill up the spaces he would leave. the papers for his business are all in order just in case. he's sure that his family wouldn't leave his cat, nana, behind. suwei...suwei could easily find a man who she could be with, without any fears hindering her.

to be honest, luciano would blame himself for it.

with raiden's death and the responsibility of being second in command was given to him, he always doubted himself and if he even deserved to be given that position.

if i'm going to be honest, yes. i feel like i could do more and be more than what i am but i'm also content with who i am now. i like supporting people and making sure that they reach their fullest potential. that's enough for me.

Still, those were thoughts for another time, and they were quickly chased away when an unfamiliar face stepped in closer to her. She took a step back, nose crinkling a little as he leaned in even further. She was about to speak, to tell him to fuck right off, please, but she’d only just opened her mouth when there was an arm around her waist.

Her head snapped to her left, and she lifted a brow even as she played along smoothly.

“Nope,” she said, popping the ‘p’. “Never seen him before in my life. I’m sure he was just leaving.”

Luciano wasn’t a Prince Charming or Knight in Shining Armor material. 

No, he definitely was not.

He wasn’t as strong as the other members of the pack and wasn’t as eye catching as the others. He could honestly say that he waded smack dab in the middle. What he could pride himself of was that he’s got a good heart. — At least that’s what he was told. Ironically, it was also his best asset that gave him the worst pain he had to go through. 

Yet here he was, arm protectively wrapped around Suwei’s waist and acting as if he was a damned hero rescuing a damsel in distress. The only difference was he wasn’t a hero and Suwei’s definitely not a damsel in distress. In fact, Luci was sure she could handle the sleazy man without his help at all.

“That’s good,” Luci smiled at her, leaning down to press a soft kiss on her forehead. At the corner of his eye, he saw the man leave them with a grunt. At least he was able to take a hint cause Luciano doesn’t really want to cause a scene in the bar. 

His fingers tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear as the pounding of his heart got louder by the second. Luci’s brain was telling him to pull away, take a step back from her since she doesn’t like anyone knowing about what they do behind closed doors. It took him a few seconds but he managed, he smiled sheepishly at Suwei. “He didn’t bother you too much right?”

Luci wasn’t really sure how this all started.

Well, he knew how the whole thing between him and Suwei started. He wasn’t drunk that night. And it would take a shit load of alcohol for him to get drunk thanks to the werewolf metabolism combined with his high alcohol tolerance. Luci liked to think that he was a bit tipsy that night. That’s why suddenly her lips started looking so fucking good. That’s why he kissed her and that’s how the whole thing started. 

But that’s not what he wasn’t sure about. 

In the one year that the two of them had been sneaking behind member’s backs and acting like they don’t spend nights tangled in sheets together, Luci couldn’t pinpoint when he started feeling those weird little jumps his heart made whenever Suwei entered the room. If they are in a room together, his body just gravitates towards her like a moth drawn to a flame. He knew that what he was starting to feel was gonna burn him sooner than later. After all of his relationships ended up with his heart burnt to ashes. 

If Leona’s best friend is unlucky in life, well Luci has bad luck when it comes to relationships. His ex-girlfriend broke up with him through text on the day he was supposed to propose and a few months later Luci found out she’s pregnant. He ended up falling for his first friends with benefits but he’s in love with his best friend. Now, as he observes Su from his spot, he wondered how she would break his heart and if he would ever be prepared for it.

OPEN STARTER FOR: INVICTUS

It was a rather peaceful mid-afternoon in the sunrise bar.

Luciano as the second in command, always made it a point to be inside the premises.-- that is, if he had no important business matters to attend to. He quietly trudged towards the rooftop to simply hangout and just enjoy the quiet summer afternoon.  He did have to make the most out of the lull. Soon, this place would be filled with rambunctious patrons and he would give up his space for them.

The wolf plopped down on one of the couches by the window and grabbed his sketchbook. It was known to the members that Luciano could often be found in the exact same spot doing the exact same thing, drawing. He started sketching a random scenery and it took a while before he realized that he drew his old hometown, Daegu. It had been weeks since his birth mother knocked on his door and asked if a Shin Soobin lived there. It shook Luci to the core that it took him a solid ten seconds before he even answered. “There’s no Shin Soobin here, Ma’am. I think you’ve got the wrong address.” 

“But you look like my son.” 

“I’m sorry but my mother died years ago. You’ve got the wrong address, Ma’am.”

Luci ran his fingers through his hair in irritation. He had been perfectly fine. He could genuinely laugh and not be scared after the attack that happened two years ago. Why did she have to shatter everything again? She came like a hurricane that destroyed everything on its path. It’s like he’s back at square one.

‘Fuck, she never really cared about you. Until now she doesn’t. She only cared about herself.’ Frustrated, Luci tore the drawing from his sketchbook and threw it in the garbage bin.
