       WHERE TO FIND A WILD WESLEY:

Rollerskating through the produce section of the local grocery store with a half full basket of food on their arm. The employees keep telling them you can’t rollerskate inside, but wow, suddenly they can’t hear you.

Skinny dipping in the river at 3 am when the memories won’t stop and the sleep won’t come.

Sitting on somebody’s car hood in the funeral home parking lot whilst eating questionable looking meat out of a Tupperware. They’re on lunch break. They have nowhere else to go. Any unsuspecting passers-by risk being subjected to an eerie chill while Wesley plops some cubed meat into their mouth without breaking eye contact

Walking their fat-ass cat around the block in a harness. The cat doesn’t look as pleased about the fresh air as Wesley does.

Hiking alone in the local woods with Father’s old rifle slung over their shoulder. They’re hunting. It doesn’t occur to you that there’s nothing around to hunt this time of year until they’ve already disappeared back into the brush. 

Laying down in a big grassy field and listening to ABBA loud as their phone will allow.

Rollerskating through the isles of the local general store bulking up on butchering supplies. The employees are long past trying to stop them.

Baked and dissociating in the local dive, ready to get their self-harm sex on.

Baked but NOT dissociating while showing off at the local skating rink’s 70′s night.

Putting up “MISSING” posters for their father while trying to look genuinely concerned (key word: trying)

Crying in a public bathroom because some guy who passed them on the street sort of smelled like Frank and a suppressed memory came to the surface.

Sounding a little TOO excited while answering the phone in the funeral home because they’re that people-starved.

Getting in a fist fight in some fast food restaurant because some asshole said some intolerant shit and before they knew it they were pinning his arms to the ground with their knees while screaming at him to “Take that shit back you unholy sack of lard.”

                                  WESLEY V. DISSOCIATIVE IDENTITY DISORDER

Dissociative identity disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder) is thought to be a complex psychological condition that is likely caused by many factors, including severe trauma during early childhood (usually extreme, repetitive physical, sexual, or emotional abuse)

Most of us have experienced mild dissociation, which is like daydreaming or getting lost in the moment while working on a project. However, dissociative identity disorder is a severe form of dissociation, a mental process which produces a lack of connection in a person’s thoughts, memories, feelings, actions, or sense of identity. Dissociative identity disorder is thought to stem from a combination of factors that may include trauma experienced by the person with the disorder. The dissociative aspect is thought to be a coping mechanism – the person literally dissociates himself from a situation or experience that’s too violent, traumatic, or painful to assimilate with his conscious self.– X

Wesley developed DID around age 8 to cope with their father’s frequent and cruel abuse. Over the years they’ve had multiple alters come and go, but due to the fact they hardly ever fronted (and if they did, Wes had no recollection of such) often would assume these people were either imaginary friends, angels, or even spirits themselves. As they grew older Wesley soon began to realize that their experiences with the people in their head wasn’t exactly NORMAL, and began to ignore them. No longer would they indulge their alters in play or conversation– no, the only sort of attention they got from Wes was when either they dissociated so heavily an alter had to take over to keep them functioning, or when the alter forced a front (both of which only ever happened during times of extreme duress. Like when Frank had his way with them or when Wesley’s peers got physical).

Once Wes left home for college and their mental health improved they hardly even noticed their alters anymore. 2 years into their studies, and their headspace was completely empty. There was hardly any reason for them to dissociate so heavily. They didn’t talk to their father, their classmates actually liked them, and when they had issues with their trauma they could go to Seth for help. Wes didn’t have any sort of interaction with an alter again until the day they caught Seth cheating.
