Spoilers for Anthem season 2
I hate how it’s implied that Rett kinda liked being treated like a tool by Grim Co. Cause Rett enjoying ‘turning his Brain off’ and doing repetitive, grueling labor for hours sounds VERY similar to another job Rett used to have.
I’m not saying that Rett necessarily misses being a mindless worker drone hopped up on pain killers and whatever else Grim Co pumped into him, but I am saying he misses being dissociated and numb. And worst part is he doesn’t see a problem with it! He talked about how he wishes he didn’t have to think all the time like BROTHER YOU FOUGHT FOR A LIFE WHERE YOU COULD THINK FOR YOURSELF WDYM? I think it’s similar to Ko and Pyke missing prison. It’s incredibly sad how Rett doesn’t even recognize that mindset as self-destructive. Like Pyke said, he needs a hobby.
(On a real note, the desire for routine and repetition is actually a pretty accurate depiction of somebody who’s former military, speaking as someone who has family and friends that are serving or have served. It’s really nice that Avantris has accuracy when it comes to that aspect of how people in the military function outside of service. Most military representation in media either focuses on how angry and strict veterans are, or how traumatized they are. And while these experiences are true for many veterans, (Rett, too!) a lot of representation leaves out nuance so I deeply appreciate how Rett is depicted. Rett is traumatized sure, but he’s also kind, honest, and gentle. Rett feels like a real person you could meet out in real life because of how accurately his character is depicted.)
