The short video will give you a quick glimpse of my story: 1. A young university lecturer in Gaza

2. Then displaced with my family and losing our house

3. Then traveled to Ireland to study and try to support and evacuate my family.

Every night I sleep in Ireland while my family sleeps under bombardment face starvation, fear and the cold of winter in tents.

People sleep to rest. I sleep to see nightmares.

Every night feels like a horror movie I must live, not watch. I wake up tired, shaken, and broken by the images my mind creates.

I had an amazing stable life with my family in Gaza before the war turned our world upside down.

I was a young, ambitious lecturer at the Islamic University of Gaza, teaching English and linguistics. I loved to motivate and empower my students so they can reach their full potential.

When the war broke out, I was displacement with my family multiple times in places I did not know existed in the Gaza Strip. Sometimes we literally ran for our lives under heavy bombardment and learned what a near-death experience actually meant.

Five months into the war, my Irish university managed to get me out of Gaza. Ever since I evacuated and left my entire family in Gaza (parents, siblings, nephews, nieces), I woke up every day so tired from horrible horrible horrible nightmares, wishing to end my life.

But then I remember: If I give up, who will help my family survive? Who will help me get them out when the crossing opens again?

I saw the constant bombardment every day live in the news, and my family was dispersed in different places in the Gaza Strip, running for their lives, struggling to survive.

The misery and suffering continue until today after we lost our house and the cold of winter if freezing them all, especially my elderly parents and young nephews and nieces.

HOWEVER...

Hard times do not only create strong people; they also reveal the goodness and humanity in others. And Gaza needs the world’s goodness now more than ever.

My family lost their home. They now live in tents, shivering in the cold. Rainwater enters every time it rains. They have no electricity, no clean water, no cooking gas, and no safety. Survival itself has become a battle.

I have been dedicating all my efforts to helping my family survive in the current situation in Gaza and apply for reunification visas with the support of my college and friends here in Ireland.

Every single member of my family counts the seconds until the day we all reunify in Ireland and live a safe, normal life like we have been dreaming for more than two years

Just three miles away is Boxtown, a secluded neighborhood that officially became part of the city of Memphis in 1968, the year that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel downtown. While the annexation had come with the promise of connecting Boxtown to municipal utilities, many homes still had no running water or sewage service as late as the 1970s.

Today, more than 90 percent of residents living in Boxtown’s ZIP code are Black, with a median household income of $36,000, according to the Census Bureau. It’s also home to more than 17 industrial facilities — some of which share an industrial park with xAI — that release enough toxic pollution to require registration with EPA’s Toxics Release Inventory.

We all saw Elon Musk do the nazi salute at the Trump inauguration. We know that he is influencing and fanning the flames of right wing political parties.

And that very well may include ours.

Because Elon Musk has pledged to donate $100 million to the Reform party. He has since mentioned that it might be hard to give such a large sum now.

But I don’t think we should take our chances. And I think we can agree that letting billionaires influence our countries politics is a terrible idea.

It calls for the government to remove loopholes that allow wealthy foreign individuals to make donations into UK political parties (e.g. by funnelling through UK registered companies).

As it is a parliament petition the government are required to debate it in parliament. But for that to happen it needs to reach 100,000 signatures.

Asking for help is not easy; it’s very embarrassing, especially for a family that used to live a decent life. My husband and I completed our university education with distinction, worked in respectable jobs, and were used to helping others, not asking for help. But the war has turned our lives into a nightmare; we lost our home, our sources of income, and even our ability to provide the simplest of needs.

I'm Hanan. For the past 13 months, we have been struggling to get healthy food and medicine for my child, whose weak body was attacked by infection, and for my elderly mother-in-law, who fell into a coma for several days and almost lost her life due to anemia caused by our inability to provide healthy food, as prices have risen more than 10 times. Now, we have run out of everything. While you are reading my message, my family and I are trying to survive amidst all kinds of suffering.

What was once a beautiful dream and reality has now become a nightmare. Starvation is one thing, but starving, freezing, and being forced to flee in the middle of the night when tanks suddenly arrive in your area, running for your life and your family’s life under fire, leaving behind everything you built over the years, and returning after 5 months of suffering in displacement and tents to find that your home, where you lived your happiest moments, is nothing but rubble, is something completely different! 💔😓

Can you feel my broken heart now? Can you imagine what I’m going through at this moment? Everything I am living now cannot be described with words, and every moment here is filled with pain and fear. We desperately need your help, as we live in hope of escaping Gaza to save our lives and live safely away from the explosions.

You might feel powerless to stop this genocide, but you can certainly save my family. We appeal to your compassionate hearts to help us escape this catastrophe, which the human mind cannot even fathom.

In Gaza, where dreams persist despite hardship, I, Mohammed Nasr, live with my family. My wife Yasmin, our children Nasr (8 years old) and Alin (7 years old), and I share a glimpse of our journey among what remains of our home.

Imagine an ordinary day with the sun shining brightly, when suddenly, an explosion changes everything. Within moments, we found ourselves trapped. Seconds felt like hours until the rescue teams arrived. The incident left scars; I broke my leg and underwent surgeries.

When I returned home, everything had changed. Yasmin was struggling with trauma, and our children clung to us for safety. Nasr began searching for food, while Alin, always trying to smile through her sadness, sought moments of joy amid the challenges.

In addition to these hardships, Yasmin faces another battle with cancer. She urgently needs treatment abroad, as local resources have become limited.

Now, we live in temporary camps, facing a harsh reality, yet we still hold on to hope. We reach out to you for support, as every contribution can change our family's future.

I contemplate the happy faces of people around me here in Ireland and reminisce about the happy normal life my family and I had before the war. A life that turned into a distant memory for us and was replaced by an unending series of horrible nightmares.

Unlike my family in Gaza, people here have access to drinking water, all types of food, electricity, and a roof over their heads. Above all, they are safe, and I cannot help but wonder if they genuinely do appreciate these blessings in their lives enough.

People seem relaxed and laughing wholeheartedly around me in Ireland. I wish I could laugh too, but I am crushed way beyond recovery on the inside. I was evacuated by my Irish college after five months of living the horrors of war in Gaza. I hope you will never know what it feels like to live in constant fear and worry and be horrified by the most sickening and scary nightmares every single night while you are far away from your family in such circumstances.

When did my people in Gaza cease to be human beings worthy and deserving of a normal life? Has it become normal now for my family in Gaza to be starved and killed while the whole world is watching the genocide? If that is the case, then you will have to excuse me if I seek every avenue to bring them to Ireland and start a new normal life like all people here around me.

I was assured by the Irish Reugee Council (IRC) and lawyers in Ireland that there is hope I can reunite with my family in Ireland. In difficult times, it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For me and my family, you are literally our light and hope for a better life.
