The Happy House Life

Life is currently hiccuping: highs followed by lows. My family is attempting to navigate through an urgent situation that appears as if it will be long term--at least for a bit (I’ll happily take months over years and weeks over months).

Admittedly, it feels a bit daunting during moments. It can be difficult to be cheerful but I am not in the business of expressing emotions or thoughts I do not feel. For better or worse, no one ever has to guess what is on my mind or in my heart. Being my friend, family, or even co-worker is not always an easy task as I am unusually blunt; even for my own good.

I say all of this to follow with this thought: it gets better. It always gets better.

True, it may not get better in the direction we desire but I have never faced a turbulent storm that did not quiet nor a night where the sun did not follow.

There can be moments in our lives where we feel as if the ground has swallowed us whole or that the very breath of our bodies has been stolen from us. We can feel hollow, alone, even aching. We can find ourselves pleading to go home despite already being there. It’s a troubling sentiment: to feel distant and separated from things and people that are meant to bring us comfort.

However, we are strong enough to overcome. Discomfort--no matter how intense--is most often very temporary.

This all makes me sound optimistic but I don’t consider myself one. I consider myself realistic. I say this because I am capable of considering the bad and experienced enough to know that it seldom lasts and rarely is as heavy as we believe in the moment.

I hope all of you are well. Even as I trudge through my own family’s difficulties, my thoughts are also with all of you. I have replied to every message I have received (if you did not receive a response, I, unfortunately, didn’t get your message) and I thank all of you so much for your kind words and checking in. Some of you are taking on your own challenges and I feel honored that you share them with me. I am always proud of every step forward you take. You are all so wonderful.
