Dominique Demoriane

“It goes through periods of that.” Judging by where they were, she figured that the woman in front of her had an offspring to worry about, something that Scarlett was ever thankful she didn’t have to worry about. “It’ll pass. It might not be tomorrow, but we’ll get through it.” She was offering reassurances, though she wasn’t so sure that she wholeheartedly believed it.

“Yeah I guess you’re right there. “ Dominique replied. She didn’t expect answers from anyone, but it was nice to talk to someone about the immense amount of chaos happening in their community. A small smile fell on her face, knowing that there was going to be some sort passing where she wont be always worried “ Yeah it’ll just take time. Hopefully not forever, but I have to try to stay positive about something”

“That’s if they realize that the ‘demons live among them’,” Rachel said, her tone derisive. “I doubt whether they think they’ve been that blind all these years.” It would be beyond the comprehension of some of the leaders to realize that they had been living side by side with supernatural beings since the end of the war. “I hope we do too,” she agreed fervently.

“I don’t know if they can think that realistically to be honest. People only see what they want to see. Who knows” Dom replied shrugging her shoulders. While talking did help in it’s own way the situation only made her more confused for the future. “If there’s anything that can be done, I know I’m going to try it”

“It was a joke,” he reassured her. Though it was not wholly untrue. Evan was not only a trouble maker but a magnet for trouble. He was always up to something. Though his troublemaking tendencies had slowed a little in this town.

“Okay good to know, cause I was really confused there for a second”

“We aren’t going to sit around waiting.” It was true they were frustratingly limited in what they could do. After a night of feeling helpless, Colton had collected his thoughts and focused on what he could do. “We’re watching who comes in to town and people are reaching out to old contacts for information. If they make another move, we’ll know about it this time. We’ll counter it.”

“We pick up the pieces.” Sophia said with a shrug. “We take care of those who are still with us and we honor those we’ve lost and find a way to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

“Right. No you’re completely right” Dominique replied, knowing that everything that left Sophia’s mouth was the way to do thing’s but she needed to mull over thing’s in her head before she could move on in such a way. “ I gotta keep my focus on my daughter and making sure she doesn’t get hurt”

“No, but disasters and tragedies are precisely that because they are unpredictable and uncontrollable. Trust me, at this point in time you’re more likely to get hit by a car than bombed by the government.” How much that would change in the next few days, though, depended on exactly what kind of safety measures the Greysons and Blackwells had put into place. 

“ Yeah I can relate to that from personal experience. Tragedy and disaster seem to follow me, so as shitty as this is I’m not surprised. I hope neither of those happen though. “ Dom shrugged. She really didn’t need any more death coming her way, which was why she seemed on edge

“Why bother commenting then, hmm?”

“Because I can. Just because it’s been said doesn’t mean anyone else isn’t allowed to utter the same words”

“I know it doesn’t,” Arthur said softly. But it was the truth, and sometimes keeping the truth in mind made the pill easier to swallow, at least for him. He understood how that may not be the same for anyone else, so he didn’t press the point. “I don’t know. I think there is an answer for those who want to find one.”

As much as she hated hearing the truth it was needed even if she didn’t know what to say after. “ Yeah I guess it’s just about looking for it. Wherever it is “ Dom replied letting out a sigh. “ I just want to do right when it comes to raising my daughter “

She understood the panic. Everyone was in their right mind to feel that way about it, and it was because of that, that the police force had made itself more present. She was everywhere, practically living in her uniform, walking around town as though it would really do anything if they were bombed - but there wasn’t much that made sense about how people handled things. "The world is ridiculous. Always had been, and always will be.”

There was a lot of panic on Dominique’s face and it was one part appropriate and one part the overwhelming fear of being a parent and something happening to her child. She knew she had to think more clearly and hearing the other woman’s words did help. “ Yeah it has, this just seems magnified at the moment”

Lorelei had been walking passed, everything feeling like a blur since she had heard the news. Her emotions constantly bounced back between anger and despair at the the news of the attack. All those innocent people, gone. It killed her inside. When she heard someone only reflecting her words out loud, she couldn’t help but agree. “Its…its bullshit is what it is. They want to call us monsters but the only monsters I see are the ones who bombed thousands of innocent people.”

Dominique nodded her head completely agreeing with her sentiment. “ It’s so dumb. How can they say were monsters when they’re doing the monstrous things. I would never entertain the idea of just wiping a town off the map” 

Rachel looked up. She had stopped, picking up the pen she had dropped while rummaging around in her purse. “With this, nowhere will be safe,” she said, getting to her feet. She dropped the pen back into her purse. “But at least they don’t know about all the different safe havens yet.” 

As much as she didn’t want to believe it, the other woman was right. There really wasn’t anywhere that was safe. At least not right now there wasn’t. “ I’m sure they’ll find a way to find people in the big cities which is horrifying. I’m glad about that at least. hopefully we stay hidden”

She snorted despite herself, glancing over at the blonde. “That’s an understatement.” She said lightly, her hands in her pockets. It was many things beyond ridiculous, including life-altering. Life as they knew it was going to end with what had happened in Summerdale. “It’s the start of something. I just hope that we can get out in front of it.”

Dominique wasn’t sure how to react to the scoff, but if she had been in a different mindset, she was certain, she would have done the same exact thing. The whole thing was unreal. “ Yeah, I mean we know where we stand with them now, so all we can do is prepare and stay hidden”

“Well it’s been pretty safe so far,” Sam said with a shrug. She hadn’t been here all that long, though, so what did she know? “Anyway, it was only one place that got bombed into oblivion. Nothing’s been said about us.” It might be a callous way to look at things, but Sam was practical. And there was no indication that Hollow Grove had been found out yet.

“That’s fair. All we can do is just hope we stay hidden for as long as we can. “ Dom replied almost trying to convince herself that this was the way to think. She had a daughter to look after and she wasn’t sure what seemed like the best way to protect her anymore. 

“We’re as safe here as we are anywhere else,” Thalia put forward. “They won’t let anything bad happen to us.” By they, Thalia meant the Blackwells and the Greysons. Thalia had grown up to have faith in them, and that wasn’t about to change now. 

“Yeah but what is safe anymore? It’s not like were a secret anymore. I hope for the best though. I believe in the Greysons completely, but this is something that is still terrifying”

“Sorry, my fault. Wherever I go, bad luck seems to follow,” Evan shrugged, a little glibly.

Dom was taken by complete surprise by his comment and didn’t know how to react. “ I’d think that was a joke, but who knows:”

Alastair looked up from where he was sitting on the bench, newspaper in hand. “It is shit,” he agreed. “But then, the world has never been safe, has it?” He had been a fool to think otherwise, that he could live out his years as just a novelist. 

The matter of fact  quality  was comforting in it’s own way and Dom did appreciate it even i her nerves had gotten the better of her. “ Yeah I guess not, but this is just one of those thing’s I can’t exactly run from like I used to “

He’d been passing by, coffee in hand on his way back to the station when he stopped after spotting Dominique waiting. “They haven’t found us yet, they don’t know we’re here and we’ll keep it that way.” No matter what his personal thoughts were, he was going to focus on any positive while talking to others in the town. Part of his job as sheriff was to keep his cool and project stability to keep people from panicking more.
