There are 3 three types of people in this world. Those who adore reading, those who detest it, and those who do it for class. I’ve come to the conclusion, that people tend to enjoy the reading more once they’re out of school. Perhaps you start reading about things you love. Sherlock Holmes, Nascar, History? Not the most interesting topics to the average american; however I’ve always had an admiration for Sherlock Holmes because of his intelligence, and equally notable his style. Perhaps had I read books on Sherlock Holmes, and my early years in College, I would’ve passed my Logic class with no hurdles. I know now all about deductive reasoning. Go Figure!

Neil Barrett who attended Central Saint Martins in London should know how blessed he is. Today he presented a collection in Milan that was a direct representation of him back in the 80’s when he was in school in London. Mentioning that he had a uniform (something I’ve been working on, but can’t seen to just let all my other clothing go to waste) which inspired garments in this collection. What will stand out to you from this show is the missing sweatshirts that are somewhat of a staple for Neil. Change is a good thing right? I guess that all depends on the person or better yet his customers. I know I can always count on Mr.Barrett for a very clean lined collection. Everything just always looks so perfect. What type of precision, and where can I find it?

Barely a solid in sight at MP Massimo Piombo’s Fall 2017 Menswear Presentation. I always appreciate when brands stick to the season. It gives me great pleasure to see a Fall collection with Fall colors. Don’t misjudge my words, I appreciate any type of menswear and you can never go wrong with greys and black; however I’m a pretty seasonal dresser when it comes to color and clothing (not always, but more often than not). At MP’s presentation the clothing represented much more than just coloring. Close ups on the clothing provide you with much more appreciation for what was created for collection. The different materials used along with the tedious job of creating the perfect pattern.

Versace; known for its flamboyancy and its impact on the streets of Miami seems to have embraked on a new journey. Is it a new day for Versace or is this seasonal? To my surprise Donatella focused a chunk of her Fall 2017 menswear collection on items we might not have seen or even expected at a Versace show or at least not executed in this particular way. The first half of this show started out with suiting, topcoats, skinny ties, brogues, and more Versace-fied (if that is even a word,probably not; but you understand) items.This is somewhat of a surprise, especially if you’re in the Industry. These are items one wouldn’t normally turn to Milan’s riskay brand for. Jacquard topcoats that were patterned with check paired with turtlenecks and chains looked both classic and old school. Seems the team overseas brought back a bit of the 80’s & 90’s flare we all know Versace for. Of course, this collection couldn’t be released without Versace being Versace. Garments started changing midway through the collection, and that’s where things started heating up. Reds, patent leather, Buffalo Paid, a hint of camel, and shades of grey all found their way onto the runway. With this collection I think Versace proved it can compete with menswear brands primarily known for their suiting and tailoring. Does that mean those brands should be in a state of panic? At this point, I would say no. Let’s see what Versace does for Spring 18 & Fall 18, and if the direction has shifted after three seasons, then it may be time to spice it up, before Donatella swoops in and steals your customer.

When you think of Diesel, you either think of denim, dark, blue, gas or a gas station. Surely I cannot be alone in picturing that when I close my eyes. Is Diesel synonymous with being hard aka manly, tough? Is that actually the point? If you’ve ever been inside a Diesel store then you understand where I’m coming from. Or perhaps you work somewhere, where Diesel Black Gold clothing is sold. The clothing possesses a sort of heavyweight feel to it. Which is what brings me back to being manly or tough. Clothing that’s made to withstand wear and tear. Or clothing that sometimes looks like wear and tear. Usually you picture biker jeans, jackets, boots, and whatever else fits the stereotype of person with a motorcycle; however this collection came packed with garments one might not expect to see a motorcyclist wearing in traffic. The true inspiration for this collection was Revenge of the Ninja, an 80’s cult classic film. That important piece of information leads you into another realm. It all starts to make sense. What you ask? Well the difference in this collection compared to the collections from previous seasons. In this collection you saw Kimonos that were reworked with what seems to be padding or quilt. A dark blue tunic/jacket hybrid in what I’m assuming is Japanese raw denim since the Japanese also served as inspiration for this collection. Whether you like it or not women are starting to show up in just about every menswear show. What is the point of that? I honestly do not know, but it is a trend that is catching on. Enjoy the collection, just don’t start jumping off walls or thinking you have martial art skills if you truly don’t.

A number of brands come to mind when you think of Milan. Whether you really know fashion or not you know a lot of the top brands are foreign and hail from Europe. However there a few brands who compared and compete with the dynasty of Dolce & Gabbana. Twice a year people from all over the globe walk, fly, and/or sit and wait for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to deliver their collection for the season. No matter the notion of what we can’t expect, but what you can expect. What’s that? A ton of looks; I say “ton” because unlike most brands out there the Dolce & Gabbana show always come with 100 or more plus looks. I think I perhaps one time saw a collection from them with looks in the 90’s; still if you compare that to other brands who only produce lets say 40 looks a collection that is a ton. Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2017 menswear collection was titled “PRINCE“. Are they paying homage to the late icon or is it simply a collection based of a prince of some sort? If you view the collection you come across some familiar faces outside of just the modeling world, but with YouTube and Instagram influencers, but it wasn’t just a sprinkle of them. The entire line up was about 50/50 between signed models, and the lucky ones I mentioned before. I’ll never quite understand how these two craft up such extravagant looks each season all while keeping them different from the last. Perhaps, this is what makes Dolce & Gabbana; Dolce & Gabbana. Maybe the two men split the looks in half that way it’s not 112 looks on one guy. What’s also interesting to note is that the shows special guest people such as Luka Sabbat were able to pick out what they wanted to wear. Giving this new generation a new range of power. What is most appreciated for this brand is the reach they have. Dolce & Gabbana isn’t a brand that is stuck in one gear. No, they often switch as you can see from the images above. Looks can go from extremely upscale and tailored to extremely relaxed. How does one going from a silk robe with satin lapels to a patchwork puffer jeans with slides. Is this what keeps Dolce & Gabbana so fresh? The ability to target all audiences?

You read right! John Elliott denim, perhaps you knew already or perhaps you didn’t either way it goes, it’s says a lot about this cool kid label. So you’re sitting there wondering why you need John Elliott denim? What’s makes his denim so amazing that it needed to be added to a Christmas gift guide. Well there’s more to the story than it just being denim. This marks an achievement for a brand that’s based off of sweats, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and hoodies. As you see this brand is becoming more & more of a lifestyle brand as it grows. John Elliott whom I met before when I worked for GQ is a very cool guy, and I’ve attended his NYFW shows before, and it’s one of those shows that commands all the big leagues in the Fashion Industry. If you know this brand you know how well-made the clothing is. I’m not exaggerating at all his clothing is very premium, and one can feel that the second the touch a John Elliott garment. The kind of green that makes you think Military. Not those bright greens; of course you already knew that, it is Autumn right? This list was complied, because Green is often a color that seems to be overlooked until you need it. You don’t hear many people running into the stores specifically looking for “a green shirt or pant” it’s typically blue, black, white, and sometimes even red or brown, but not green. In this list you’ll find pratical items and not just in terms of being wearable, but also in price. Two of them aren’t typically the cheapest, but I’m catering to all levels of income. Kicking things off with a brand we’re all familiar with, better known as LEVI’S however this time it’s LEVI’S VINTAGE (in my opinion the cooler part of the LEVI’s brand). LEVI’s VINTAGE also comes in at a higher price point as oppose to just LEVI’s; with that being said, it’s not unaffordable so you don’t have to worry about being priced out, but you can’t be a frugal king. It seems to be a general census from the public about people paying a lot of money for already distressed and destroyed clothing. Get over it Martha, this isn’t 1960, and this is in style now, and it actually looks pretty cool.

Reading is fundamental right? That’s what they say right? Kidding! Clearing one needs to read in order to learn, and of course in today’s era you can watch a movie or documentary, but there’s nothing quite like finding yourself immersed in a great book especially when it’s something you love. So if you’re as interested in menswear as I am then you will find yourself wanting every one of these books. I’ve read all of them except one. I should probably be ordering it right now to be honest. I’m sure you wondering what’s the difference in these books? It’s just menswear right? How much can one say that the other can’t. Well, here’s the truth.
