I will always condemn unnecessary use of force by the police or any authority figure, but the recent unjust and unlawful deaths of black men at the hands of the police do not justify retaliatory killing of police officers completely uninvolved with the case.
I hate to be all “why can’t we all be friends maaaaaan” about it but I’d really like to think that we’ve moved past the eye-for-an-eye legal code. Violence after the initial event only ever serves to obstruct the search for justice and heightens tensions of all the parties involved. I can only hope that these will be the last deaths on either side of this case, and I pray that the families of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling will find justice for the grievous crime done against them by the police officers in question.
