I have had the experience where MULTIPLE people not from South Africa seem completely baffled by this so I need to check;
Do you know what the 3 point stop rule is?
Yes
No
I don't drive
Not "how to park using a 3 point stop" I am talking about the rule you follow at traffic lights when they are not working, or at a 4 point stop street.
My cousin from Australia nearly had a heart attack because he had no idea what you do at an intersection like this (DO YOU GUYS NOT HAVE THEM????) and one of my European friends had no idea what I was talking about when I was complaining about people not following the rule at a traffic light that was out.
Which is insane to me.
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU DO AT CROSS ROADS THEN????
Oh, that's interesting. I've only been to Europe once many years ago, so I don't remember well how their roads were set up. I guess they must be pretty different there and in Australia too (aside from the obvious "driving on the right of the car and on the left of the road" aspect). Anyways, I've always known the rules here to be like this: the one who arrives first gets to leave first, let the right-most driver go first if you arrive at the same time, straight traffic goes before those turning, right turns go before left turns, and the most aggressive driver goes first if four cars stop at once. Man, I can't imagine what would happen if four Australian or European drivers stopped at a crossroad. It'd be like a Zax situation (the Dr Seuss story).
