Born from her former fiancee, Ii Naochika (yes, the one you see fleeing during the opening of Sumeragi), and the daughter of a retainer of the Ii Clan, Okuyama Hiyo, Toramatsu (later Ii Naomasa) had to be acknowledged by a brokenhearted Naotora as the Clan's heir, despite being basically an illegitimate son.

As she helped the equally brokenhearted Lady Hiyo bringing up the boy, Naotora, who was only 15 at that time, found herself quite exhausted, having to deal with such a troublemaker who really had nothing in common with his biological father.
