Making Miscellanea

The two smaller gears were machined from aluminium, finished by hand.

The rough shapes of the larger gear, the insert on the face of one small gear and the bracket were LASER cut from steel and the engravings marked out. They were machined or filed to final shape and the marks engraved deeper with a rotary tool.

There are two small dome ended shafts which hold the gears and some brass bushings and washers which were all turned.

A fun project for a rainy Sunday last weekend, then made the handle this evening. Nice to have it done (except the blade), I've had the material ready for ages.

A bucket made from salvaged French oak, steel bands and sisal handles, finished with linseed oil. This is my first attempt at any kind of coopering and was all done by hand; I haven't checked if it's water tight yet but the joint at the bottom isn't great so... Probably will get a pot plant in it rather than be used for water.

This project had been sitting around with the joinery cut but not assembled for ages and I've finally got back to it. This was my first time attempting the vinegar and steel wool ebonising thing and it came out alright but not amazing. It doesn't show off the figure in the timber or joinery very well but it's an interesting finish that leaves the larger grain texture visible.
