*yells incoherently about the founding principles of Christianity vs the evangelical/prosperity gospel/right-wing view of Christianity for a few hours*
here is your sign, if you needed one.
People outside Utah: Haha colts are such a joke. They dont exist, they’re just on TV
People in Utah:
cults in media:
this man on my street always looks creepy and is up at odd hours. 😱 there was a dead cat in his yard too. 😱😱we found a book with creepy latin in his yard and he had friends come over in the middle of the night on friday the 13th where we saw them chanting in a dead language, sacrificing someone, and summoning a demon 😱😱😱😱😱
.
cults in real life:
my elderly neighbor just came over today with a plate of cookies to ask if i was okay because i haven’t been to church in a while. i take them and immediately throw them away once she leaves because i’m suffering from an eating disorder caused by this “church” telling me that my body is to be kept pure and beautiful for my future husband. i haven’t yet admitted to myself that i’m a lesbian. one old friend won’t talk to me because i expressed hesitation at the idea of being a mother.
my bishop wanted to talk to me a week ago to see if i was worthy to go into the temple and pledge my life to the lord. he asked me, alone in a room with him, if i masturbated, looked at porn, was sexually involved with anyone, or had impure thoughts. we’ve had this interview several times, starting on my 12th birthday.
i don’t go to youth group for a while because i feel too impure to be around other human beings. one of the girls brings me a coloring book of scripture quotes and says that all of the other girls are wondering where i am. they’ve noticed i’m “struggling with the faith” and want to know when i’m available to be prodded until i share my faith trauma like a slumber party crush so they can invalidate it. “it’ll be so fun,” she says “we can do our nails, make popcorn, and read our scriptures. you’ll feel so much better!” she leaves and i cut myself up to my elbow again.
it takes me over a decade to leave. i’ve been forced to give 10% of all the money i’ve ever made in my life to this group, and needed a lawyer to leave. when i die, they will baptize me back into the cult “by proxy”. i haven’t been involved for years and still can’t look at myself in the mirror.
i hesitantly bring up my struggles with it during a conversation about religion.
“oh!” someone interjects excitedly “my neighbor is a mormon! they’re such nice people!”

My nephew is coming up on his second birthday. He’s talking a bit now, but his first–and favorite–word is “Clock.” Probably this is because of the abundance of clocks in his environment; my grandfather repairs clocks as a hobby and so we all have dozens. There’s a clock withing sight basically anywhere you go in our home.
My nephew, who does not understand the concept of time, only of shiny moving objects, believes that any circular thing with markings on it is a clock. And he will point at that object and shout “CLOCK!” as loudly as he can. If it’s an especially remarkable circle, he’ll go with the high praise of “BIG CLOCK!!” It’s pretty cute most of the time.
My parents attend a fairly large church, of the protestant non-denominational variety. It’s very modern and trendy, and they have a dedicated design team that makes graphics and visuals for the sermons, which are displayed on massive projector screens. Most Sundays, there are eight-hundred-odd people at each service. And on one Sunday a couple months back, my whole family went together, my nephew included.
He’s mostly pretty good about sitting quietly when everyone else is sitting quietly. So when the pastor came up and began the prayer, my nephew hushed along with everyone else.
But then the projector visuals changed from the lyrics from the last worship song to the logo for the sermon series. Which was a simple lineart circle with text around the edge.
It was, as far as my nephew was concerned, a BIG CLOCK.
Naturally, he announced his discovery as loud as possible.
My nephew is a baby. He can’t actually say the word “clock” correctly. So what he actually shouted, at the top of his lungs, into a room of eight hundred silently praying christians, was
“BIG COCK!!!”
Luckily for us, the quarantine was instituted only a few days later, and we haven’t had to go back to church and face our shame.
@rippledragon linked this to me and a good time is being had.
I found a rock :)
My troubles will soon be over!

contrary to social media developers’ beliefs i have literally never once wanted to see posts in anything other than chronological order
All the pictures from La Misión, Baja California, México. Multiple fires broke out near and in the city yesterday, October 25th, 2019. I was a nanny and homeschool coach in this city with one of the many nonprofit and missions in the area 5 years ago. You can see how close the fire came to destroying the orphanage, Door of Faith. Another ministry, Strong Tower, lost a home further up the canyon. This ministry has built an incredible number of buildings for the orphanage and other missions in the state. If you wish to donate you can follow the link. I have no doubt they will be heavily involved with the rebuilding of the community.

When a co-leader falls on his face during club.
For those of you who struggle with the command to honor your parents. Sometimes honoring them is by not being them, by stopping the generational sin they have passed on.
So myself and two best friends got matching tattoos that say Κύριε ἐλέησον. It’s pronounced Kyrie Eleison and in ancient Greek means “Lord have mercy.” It’s one of the oldest Christian liturgical prayers and features in the Bible, and when Christianity became Latinised, it as one of the only surviving Greek prayers.
Just for fun I plugged it into Google Translate to see what modern Greek thinks of it and
10/10 A+ tat so glad its marked on my skin forever, would tattoo again
Thanks OP you ruined the liturgy for me.
never gonna hear The Hunchback of Notre Dame soundtrack the same way again
Frollo: Ima kill this baby
Choir in the background: Dude fuckin chill
Frollo: I’m gonna set her on fire
Choir: Dude… chill
My entire church singing in unison: ♫ Sir, please calm down! ♫ Calm down, sir! ♫ Sir, please calm down! ♫ Take it easy, sir! ♫
