Neteyam is dead. He's in the Cove of Ancestors and the gang, Omatikayas, Metkayinas and Spider decide to go visit him.
Spider obviously can't see him so he just watches the others swim down and connect (his mask allows him to get down to their level)
Kiri also can't connect, because of her seizure last time. But she misses her brother so dearly, she decides she will.
"What if it happens again?"
But Kiri doesn't care, she has to see her brother again. And that's enough to convince them. They all stay close to her, ready to grab her and swim back up to the surface as soon as anything happens.
She connects and its fine for now. Tsireya and Lo'ak go with her, Aonung and Spider are next to her, Roxto and Tuk are on the surface with the Ilus ready for a quick getaway.
Lo'ak and Tsireya guide Kiri to where Neteyam usually is, a little pool in the forest not far from their home. He's not fishing this time, he's whittling away at a lump of wood, making beads for a new project that will never truly be complete.
"Hello, brother." Neteyam turns and smiles at his sister.
They talk for a little, it seems to be going fine and Lo'ak and Tsireya relax, and join the two by the pool.
Kiri reaches her hand out to rest on Neteyam's shoulder, a harmless gesture, but the moment they touch the world is ripped away from them. Lo'ak and Tsireya disappear and it's just Kiri and Neteyam floating and Kiri can't breathe, and Neteyam's eyes are wide and he can't breathe either. The two are suffocating, drowning.
Spider and Ao'nung have torn Kiri away from the anenome, her body convulsing violently and the lights of the tree flashing. Tsireya and Lo'ak swim after them.
"I knew we shouldn't have let her! My parents are going to skin us!" Lo'ak snapped, helping to heft Kiri onto the ilus back. Tsireya is there checking her breathing, and when she can't hear anything she begins to breathe for her.
The others watch in growing panic.
There's splashing not too far from, they all turn to watch, guards up in case it's an akula searching for easy prey. What they see instead, is a Na'vi breaching the surface and clamouring for something to hold onto, choking and spluttering on sea water.
"What the fuck." Lo'ak breathes, glancing over at Spider as if to ask are you seeing this too.
Aonung swims out, the only one really willing to leave Kiri when she coughs up the water in her lungs.
He's only a short distance from the Na'vi when he realises who it is.
