Of all the AU characters, Magnus is the only one who seems directionless and ultimately discontent with his life, suggesting that Magnus has an innate need to not only use his magic, but also be in position where he’s depended upon or where he can see himself making a difference — despite any protests or insistence on being paid. Not until Clary shows him he can still take that role in a dimension with no demons does he thrive again.
