Wait, I already talked about the hierarchy change in June...

Good news for Delilah: Franklin being a goose is no longer taboo because geese now outrank ducks in the hierarchy (and the Webbinghams are now geese to reflect that)

I've been on hiatus because somehow, even more has changed or is in the process of changing (including the species of several of my OCs and Lore) but I've been thinking about my growing affection for a Laurent/Nate crackship and how interesting that makes things for Blog Stuff.

Magic Duck Patch Notes— Webcomic Edition:

The birds are more bird-like (wing arms, colored scleras, etc)

Crossfeathers are now swans and Webbinghams are now geese (this also means geese are higher up on the hierarchy); Abberquacks are still Muscovys for now, though I'm playing around with the idea of making Penelope and Wilbur different species of duck?

Aurelia LOVES chess. Even though she could theoretically cheat with her magic, she operates purely off of strategy. She's pretty damn good at it too.

Since Aurelia likes to keep her personal stuff private, she writes her diary entries in a made up code only she knows. She won't even share the code with Ebony.

Because of her affinity towards mind magic, Aurelia has an excellent memory. This includes remembering her dreams/nightmares in vivid detail.

Aurelia could technically lucid dream if she wanted to, but that would require effort on her part and using magic while sleeping would negate the replenishment sleep would give her.

Aurelia is more capable than people give her credit for (including herself). She might not be a good fighter (she doesn't like to solve problems with violence), but she's still a very capable magic user.

Aurelia's speciality lies in mental/emotional based magic. Being able to see someone's true feelings, inner thoughts, dreams/nightmares, memories, etc. She's very careful with how she uses that magic though—respecting people's autonomy is important to her (especially when her suitor would prefer if she had no autonomy of her own), so she refuses to violate someone's autonomy with her magic. There are moments where curiosity gets the best of her and she reads someone's thoughts after some interesting drama happens, but she ultimately tries to respect others' privacy too.

Me: Why don't I come up with specializations for my characters to make their powers feel more distinct?

Alroy thinks Lundyn is handsome, but is too oblivious to know he has a crush or that dating Lundyn is even in the realm of possibility. Instead, he's a diehard "Lundelilah" shipper because "Dee Dee, how could you NOT be head over heels for him? Imagine how cute your kids would be! Plus, you marrying him means Dad won't die..." (He wouldn't try to force anything, but he's firmly on the "just think about it, okay?" side of things.)

Random Headcanons because why not—

Kathleen would flirt with Odelia in front of the entire student body at least once. She knows it'll spark drama and Odelia is kinda cute, so why the hell not? It probably won't lead to anything, but at least it'll be fun.

Speaking of Kathleen and Odelia, I could see them potentially being friends (assuming the flirting doesn't weird Odelia out too much). Kathleen's magic isn't as interesting as Odelia's, but she can relate to having to rely on other skills to make up for her lack of powerful magic. (I hope Odelia is prepared for Kathleen to try to turn her against the Triumvirate though asdfghjkl)

...Aurelia has thought about courting Theo every now and then. Not like she'd ever go through with it, she has enough competition on that front and she's already arranged to be married, but she feels like Theo is a "safe" option Gods forbid anything goes wrong with Rylund. Sort of how Victoria clung onto the idea of courting Damion except not as messed up. The Crossfeathers have the reputation of using women as baby factories and discarding them when they're no longer useful (Rylund's own father is on his second wife before Rylund even turned 18), so Aurelia is terrified of becoming obsolete (especially since Rylund seems to view her as mainly a means to an end). Aurelia's logic is that since Theo doesn't seem to give a shit, he wouldn't care about other people enough to be unfaithful to her even if the marriage winds up being loveless. She'd never act on those thoughts, but she likes to have that in her back pocket just in case.
