Bill, my main Pokémon is a Scyther that is very dear to my heart and that has won me many battles. But loyal as it is, I must confess myself a little nervous around her sharp blades. Are there cases of a trainer or partner Pokémon being injured by these scythes?
There are, but this is usually due to trainer error, rather than any fault of the scyther’s. You see, scyther are extremely careful about their blades and extremely aware of where they are at all times. They’re very much unlikely to harm a trainer (even ones they’re not particularly loyal to) through normal interaction. However, sometimes, trainers don’t quite know how to handle a scyther’s blades when cleaning them, or they grab them without thinking, and at that point, cuts simply ... happen.
So it’s very important for you to understand how to grip a scyther’s blade correctly when helping your scyther to groom them. (Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to sharpen them, as the scyther will do that themselves, but you may need to wipe dirt off them every so often.) Moreover, when interacting with your scyther, be aware of where you are, and don’t invade a scyther’s space too quickly or whenever a scyther’s body language tells you it wants to be left alone. Finally, never ever grab a scyther’s arm directly. Take their shoulder, then slide down to their forearm, just below the blade. Do this with their consent, and do so gently, and you shouldn’t be stuck with their arm at any point.
