i was forced to watch an ad for Elle, the new show about the high school Elle Woods (which is whole other Big Problem I Will Address Accordingly) and it was The Worst Thing To Ever Happen To Me. it features a girl talking about how much she loves Elle because "she's both pretty *and* smart" which just pissed me tf off because what do you mean, that's like the bare minimum?? that's not unique to Elle at all, i can list dozens of smart and pretty characters off the top of my head... it's giving pick me. ALSO Elle's defining trait isn't intelligence; in fact, she's quite ditzy at the start of the movie. the thing that defines Elle Woods is her ambition and work ethic! she worked her butt off and sacrificed her own personal enjoyment for her end goal: to get into Harvard and win Warner back. while she failed on the second count, there's no denying her strength lies in her optimism and belief in love, as well as the drive to back it up.

not to mention the whole idea of creating a prequel before a movie about profound growth is utterly insane and demeans the whole point of the original movie. how Reese Witherspoon not only allowed this tomfoolery to happen, but also led the charge as an executive producer boggles my mind.

unfortunately no one knows Elle Woods like I know Elle Woods...
