if you’re a maladaptive daydreamer please take care of yourself and turn your music down a bit so you don’t damage your hearing. it would be sad if you couldn’t enjoy the songs in the future that you’re enjoying now.

You see, it’s hard telling people that you’re scared of happiness. They don’t understand that the happier I am during the day, the sadder I’ll be when nightfall comes creeping.

maladaptive daydreaming is a disorder. maladaptive daydreaming isn’t a good thing. it shouldn’t be praised as highly as it is for making someone ‘more creative!!’ when at the same time dismissing the entire negative side of it. it isn’t just daydreaming. there’s a reason it has maladaptive in the name.
madd culture is spending all day with a really juicy prompt in mind and waiting until u go home to freely daydream about it except that once u get home, suddenly the prompt isnt that interesting anymore and now you have nothing else to lead up on
Honestly I didn't know how to explain this but YES
a few examples of what maladaptive daydreaming (MaDD) is: daydreaming for hours to the point you don’t sleep/eat/study. Isolating yourself and avoiding all social events just to daydream alone in your room. Having poor social skills as a result of all this. Accumulating problems & responsibilities you’re never going to face; consequently daydeaming more and more as a way to escape from them.
what MaDD isn’t: simply being more creative / imaginative than usual. A cute fun quirk.

One of my friends who I love and knows about my daydreaming looked at me and asked "How is your daydreaming?" I just stood there and cried, while she got up and hugged me and started crying along with me. While I heard her whispering "I know we're going to win this battle please be strong." This is what it's about, its not about that generic response "Everybody daydreams." That I'm tired of hearing from the people I've tried to tell. Its about recognizing each other's pain, it doesn't matter whose fighting a bigger battle, its about helping each other through that battle.
Finding a fresh new daydreaming plot is honestly the best feeling.
Or a curse when you're trying to stop
does anybody else suffering from a mental illness literally feel like they’re being held hostage by their own thoughts…. like there’s someone controlling them and forcing them to do what they tell them to do….
me: my whole personality is built around my trauma and all of my issues can be traced back to how i've been treated. i've developed multiple mental disorders and i suffer from my trauma everyday, which is why i most likely will never fully recover. i can't even begin to describe how it makes me feel.
also me: trauma? what trauma? OHH RIGHT LOL THAT THING HAHAH IT WASN'T EVEN THAT BAD I'M JUST BEING A LIL SHIT

a callout post for maladaptive daydreaming
for stealing so many years that i couldve used to have fun and enjoy life while i was still young
It is our impression that the high rate of comorbid ADHD (76.9%) is due to recurrent diversions from external world tasks caused by the compulsive need to attend to persistent inner-world distractions.

professionals who have researched ways to deal with various mental illnesses: if you practice these few mild activities every day, they could help your recovery, as shown by the patients we have surveyed
y’all on this site: what the fuck is this neurotypical blasphemy? REAL mentally ill people know that you're never going to get better and you're doomed to be miserable the rest of your life. anyways here's a post with "support mentally ill people who are jerks" against a pastel pink background

My therapist told me something meaningful yesterday. She said: “It’s important to remember that when you’re depressed you have to nurse yourself and be extra gentle towards yourself. Just like an athlete wouldn’t break an ankle then force themselves to run that ankle. They rest as it heals and do not think ‘I am a failed athlete,’ they think, ‘right now something isn’t working so i’ll take care of myself until it does.’
Just like a broken bone, depression can change the way your daily life plays out, and pushing yourself too hard and getting frustrated when you don’t feel better is just like trying to run on that broken ankle and getting frustrated when it doesn’t heal.” —jellie-bells ••• artwork by traitspourtraits
madd is my favorite way to abbreviate maladaptive daydreaming. like yes, i am mad, mad as hell that my paras aren’t real and my life is fallin apart and all i care about is that my paras have the right thing for breakfaST
