Guys, this is kind of a personal thing of mine, but I dare to say that non-canon ships are better than canon happy ending couples.
hear me out. PLEASE, hear me out.
Listen: for example, Ben and Beverly from IT have a beautiful ending in basically every media (book, miniseries and movies). They end up together, they’re happy, and yeah, wow, amazing… BUT it’s literally like a five-minute screen time scene.
If you ship them? Well… that’s pretty much all you get.
Reddie, on the other hand, has a tragic ending. Like, really tragic and painful and everything. BUT because of that, the amount of content we have is insane. Especially in fanfiction. We have 300k words of them being happy, soft, in love, exploring their feelings, character study, because people were mad about the tragic ending.
And honestly? I kind of prefer it that way.
I know Benverly has content too, but I don’t think it even compares to Reddie or any other big doomed yaoi couple.
So please, stop this madness of only wanting a five-minute happy ending on screen. Use your imagination, for God’s sake.
Hot take: I’m not saying that every couple you like has to be unhappy to generate good fix-it fanfictions. Shane and Ilya from Heated Rivalry are literally proof of the opposite: they’re happy and they have A LOT of content.
This is just a reflection on the beauty of headcanons and why I don’t think a couple needs to be canon or have a happy ending to be valid.
