Kunzite really, really doesn’t want to do that. Maybe it’s selfish, but he doesn’t want Zoisite to think of him as weak. He knows that there’s no way he could still see him as the powerful, brave leader that he once was now, not after everything he’s done, but ... if he opens up to him here, he knows he’ll shatter any remaining admiration Zoisite has for him.

Kunzite has never thought of himself as great, but he’s always known that Zoisite has. He doesn’t know what he’d do without that.

‘Annoyed’ would be putting what Kunzite felt mildly. Why did Jadeite never listen to him? There really was no point in being the leader if his orders weren’t respected.

Honestly, Kunzite did not feel ‘okay’. He felt as if the air had been stolen from his lungs, and no matter what he did he could not take it back. He felt as if he was existing on a completely different plane to the rest of the world, floating just above them. He felt as if he had been attacked, but there was no one to fight back against.

There was no point in telling Nephrite this, however. It would simply be worrying him over nothing.

     MAMORU’S HAND RESTED ON THE doorknob to Nephrite’s door, his eyes trained on the silver haired man trying to prevent him from entering. He stood in silence as Kunzite spoke and almost laughed at the man’s attempt to ‘ shield ’ him from whatever lay beyond the door. As if he were a child whose innocence was still intact. He just flashed his friend a grin instead and turned the knob beneath his palm.

     “Come on, Kunzite. Where’s your sense of adventure? What’s the fun in letting you do all of the snooping while I just stand here and wait? We can do this together.” He tilted his chin, nodded toward the great unknown of their mutual friend’s room. “It’ll be fun.”

What he wants is to remain firm and insist that he go in alone to save his master from the immodesty of it, however ... instead he finds himself suddenly remembering Minako’s ( scarring ) talk about modern values and comes to a quick decision that maybe, just maybe, Mamoru is better equipped to deal with this than he is.

Kunzite had been trying not to pay much attention to the movie, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about it later— he couldn’t help but find that thought funny, that Kunzite, the great warrior, leader of the Shitennou, was terrified of simple moving pictures. It wasn’t funny though, his paranoia was becoming increasingly troublesome and he knew that if it wasn’t for Apollo laying beside him he wouldn’t be able to stay in the room.

“I suppose they would be more intelligent if they knew they were in a horror movie.”

When he speaks he doesn’t show a hint of anxiety, his tone light and a small smile on his face.

    “This is testing out other skills,” Jadeite lifted his right hand, which still held his pencil, before putting back to paper again. “I think I used both before…” he pursed his lips, trying to remember his pervious life. “Anyway, I use both now, so I figured I need to make sure I’m still strong in both arms, right? And I think Nephrite is trying to procure weapons to practice with.”

    He doesn’t tell Kunzite that while him drawing with two hands is useful in becoming comfortable using both regularly, it is mostly for his own de-stressing. It’s coping. He doesn’t want to come off as weak or unhinged. He doesn’t tell Kunzite that he sneaks out when everyone is sleeping to go skateboard. While it was a hobby when he was younger, Jadeite thinks it will be helpful in developing his reflexes and sense of balance. But that particular hobby is not something that comes naturally to him any more. And he doubts that Kunzite would see the value in it. 

    “I have some books on strategy too.”

Oh, now that was interesting. There were countless situations where using both hands could be useful, with fighting, of course, being the first that sprang to mind. As he imagined Jadeite with two swords he felt something shift in his mind. It felt as if someone was telling him that’s right, you’ve got it!, but he still felt as if he was missing something. Was there another significance to Jadeite’s ability that he wasn’t remembering?

When it became clear that he couldn’t answer his own question he tried to think about something else. He knew himself, and he knew that not instantly thinking the right thing would frustrate him.

“Weapons are good ... with any luck we’ll still have muscle memory to rely on, however, it will be important to practice regularly.” Everything seemed peaceful, but there was no telling when they would next need to fight. They had to be prepared to protect their master.
