Ahem, alright this has been months if not a year in the making but- introducing the rough magic system concept of
Macrocosmic dream
Long ago, five entities came to our planet, deciding to harvest the life force bless the people of the planet, four of these entities bestowed their powers onto the humans and creatures of earth (working on planet name so we're just calling it earth), splitting small pieces of themselves to spread amongst the world, seeking out living beings who reflect the traits enjoyed by the respective entity.
Time
(forgive the shitty image I cannot draw clocks and this was my prototype icon design)
Time is the flow of this world, with their gift on earth it allows things the time to grow, to advance and evolve
People who are blessed with times gift are often those with an innovative streak, those who risk remaking something and trying something new, or advancing something from the past. You could be an inventor, constantly seeking to create something new, or perhaps a chief who wishes to remake old family dishes for everyone to enjoy, the desire to know something enough to change it and remake it time and time again is a desire time adores seeing in humans. For time, nothing is new, even the wheel existed before it did, and it so loves when humans try anyway to create new things, to appreciate the old and make the new the new old. Currently I have no character examples of time to show how it works power wise, but I have some concepts.
You see, no matter the concept the basis of the powers remains the same, which is the users personal view of said concept. Somebody who fears time is always moving without them can gain the power to stop time, or perhaps they wish to catch up to time slipping through their fingers, and they gain powers of super speed. It all relies on the users personal views on the concept, and if it's more negative or positive can change the outcome too. This can range from "time is as inescapable void that claims and now I have black hole powers" to "oh yeah time is like clocks right? Gear attack. Clock hand sword." It all depends on the blessed's view.
Space
The counterpart to time, whereas time gives you the ability to grow, space gives you the room to. The environment you walk in, the air you breathe, space is all that surrounds you at any given time. This could be the space of your home, or the space of the stars and the black void beyond this planet's reach.
Space adores explorers, the people who want to see what is in the space it has blessed us with, who want to reach across and do something that affects the entire space around them. This can range from people who want to see every corner of the planet and the stars beyond, or people who simply want their presence to be felt across the world, an artist who wants to be spoken about in all corners for their work. Truly, space adores those with lofty dreams, the kind that seem as impossible as touching the stars themselves.
I do have two examples of how space has presented itself in people, the first is an ancient king, his one dream was to rule the entire world. He looked out at the plains and saw land to be owned, space to be conquered, and space bestowed in him a gift for his dream, if space was something to be owned then he would own it all as their king. His crown became the key to his power, retaining anything he placed inside that could help him rule his land, knowledge, advisors, treasures. They say this king never truly died, that his blessing was so great space allowed him to place himself in his crown, and that he rules on through his descendants to this very day.
The second blessed of space is aprello, his dream is lofty but still his own, and that is to make a railway system that covers the entire globe. Others may see it as simple, or insane, but aprello believes in it and refuses to let go. As a gift for his persistence space blessed him. He has the power to construct metal out of nothing, creating his own railway tracks and trains whenever he so pleases and wherever he wishes.
Order
(there's no yellow so time had to be orange and space is red so please excuse the pink it's supposed to be blood red in colour)
Order is life itself, blood and breath, if space and time are where you live and how you grow, then order is why you exist. Order is the blood in your veins, the lungs of a snake, the will to live and continue on of a salmon, life is order, but so is death. Life and death are the endless cycle which order embodies.
Order itself cares not for the humans infighting on its meaning, clawing at eachother throats insisting that it means the law and justice, that it means predator versus prey, nature versus man. In reality, order is all of these things as they all result in the same thing. Perpetuation. There will always be a predator hunting prey, the law will always persecute someone, there will always be man to hunt animal and animal to hunt man. Order prefers those who find themselves aiding in a cycle, this can range from a wealthy CEO undermining their workers, to a worker struggling to make ends meet at a dead end job. Or even to those who want to break the pre-existing cycles via revolution or grand change, because no matter what a new cycle will repeat itself. Order doesn't care how you feel about the cycle, it only cares that you progress it, that you help the snake devour its own tail for all time.
Order is one of the more versatile concepts, with a wide range between its blessed. Some are endowed with nature's blessing, control of plants or animals, others lean more towards humanity with the power of laws. I don't have a character for this concept, so I'll list some concept powers to help you get a better idea of how it works. One person can view order as the law, justice and the scales, their power gives them a hammer to issue out that justice, scales to balance their enemies hearts. Another thinks of life and death, the bell doth toll, and so their power is a bell that rings out death. Another thinks of life, and they can reanimate corpses under their control. Just some examples incase this gets confusing, but if it does I am willing to clarify it more, just let me know!
Chaos
You may think this one is evil, the opposite of life, but these entities exist beyond that. If life is your breath, then chaos is nature's. Chaos makes the winds blow, the tides turn and the plants bloom. If order is all blood filled life and death, then chaos is its counterpart in being nature's life and death.
Chaos adores those who are curious, those who want to understand the world around them, if a tree falls when nobody is around does it make a sound? Chaos loves those who wish to be there to hear it, to confirm. Those who become its blessed often range from scholars and students, to frat boys and people who basically just want to fuck around and find out. That's the basis chaos finds itself attracted to, those who mess with things to learn why, the curious and the reckless youth, the wise elders who want to learn more and the urge to know why.
I do not have a character example for chaos, unfortunately, this one actually caused me enough trouble that I made a Reddit post to get people's views on chaos for power concepts. Which resulted in amazing results as "chaos is mania, so the user can induce widespread mania in people and entities" and "dragon." I am not lying somebody said dragon and I love them, if they were in macrocosmic dream they would get dragon powers and they are the only one having this magic who is doing it right. One way to find out a chaos power for someone is to take whatever they'd get from order and reverse it. Humans often view chaos and order as opposites, and that's ultimately what decides the power. For instance a maid with order could view order as clean and neat, and have powers reflecting that. However if that same maid got chaos's boon then they would instead have the power to spread dirt and grime.
The fifth entity never did bestow their blessing on the earth, instead watching it's offspring of entities bestow theirs and how humans reacted. They say the fifths gift came later, and not as power bestowed but a presence felt. Turning itself into a human form to better experience the world, unfortunately no evidence of such an ancient forebearer exists, so it has been debunked as mere myth. (Don't mind this, this is lore for the traveler/rover equivalent)
Now, as there are only four entities bestowing power, there surely must be four elements only, right?
Evolution.
The hidden, lesser known fifth element. This is for a reason, as this element is no gift from entities beyond this planet's reach, instead, this is Prometheus's gift to mankind. A mad scientist who stole growth and evolution from time itself, turning his prize into a new fifth element he is constantly working to refine. He keeps his work hidden, but if you pay attention you might see the grey colour of evolution from lucky individuals.
Prometheus picks the subjects of his experiment very carefully, he can't go giving evolution to any random person, his work would get shut down for sure. Instead, Prometheus targets those who are desperate, who need power that the entities won't give for whatever reason. Humans should be the ones in control of their fate, no? So he blesses those who seemingly need it the most.
Now, Prometheus's concept is different from the others, it is not just evolution but human evolution, those who gain it have their powers form on their view of humanity. I do have two examples for this, but one is an exception to most of the rules. The first is
Cecilia. Crowned heir to the throne of the space conquering king, she is set to inherit the throne from her father, rarely seen by her large kingdom or her people due to her immense lessons, the crown princess must learn more, learn something new to better the kingdom. She hates It, and one day when sneaking off to learn something she wanted to know for herself, fencing, a man approached her. Blue hair framed his red eyes as he offered her an escape, you can't become spaces queen if you are claimed by another, no? And so she accepted, becoming a blessed of evolution. Cecilia is selfish, her main view of humanity? It is her. Humanity evolved and now she exists. So her power reflects that, she can make copies of herself, and only copies. Her power will grow and learn with her, eventually changing to seeing herself in all of humanity, and humanity in herself, basically instead of thinking of herself she views others as just like herself and therefore as important, letting Cecilia make copies of other things and advancing her power.
And the second holder of evolution, she is a unique case, special in its making as she was not blessed by Prometheus, in fact... He has no idea she even exists. His own work to himself in evolution created a unique copy of himself, exactly as he was once, unfortunately while he resisted the foolish urge to be accepted, to be understood, his copy did not come to the same conclusion and faked his own death. Prometheus moved on to perfect evolution, and Nasir found himself with a blade to his throat and then a wife.
What would you say a baby's idea of humanity is? An infant understands things at their base form, for they know no other way to understand, and when a dying baby is born, red eyes straining to see as she can't breath.. her instincts and small self believes in all her heart that being alive, being human, means surviving. Evolving. Adapting-
And a miracle happens, little baby roya is no longer dying. Red eyes strong as she smiles and coos, meeting the terrified red eyes of a man who understands the mark of evolution scored on her back, what this means for his daughter, for his dream.
And uh. That's macrocosmic dream! At least, a basic explanation of the concepts and the powers you can get. Including the man made fifth one of evolution. To make it easy, order is animal life, chaos is the environment, space is distance and the earth, time is growth and evolution is humanity. Now, just because that's what the concepts are doesn't mean the power is limited by it.
The powers are decided on human views, If a person is convinced order means nature then they're going to get plant powers, even if technically chaos is the plant one. Really chaos is natural disasters, tsunamis and tornados and all that. Order is the cycle of life, blood for blood. The other three seem more obvious I think from previous explanations so they're good.
Roya is special in that she's born with evolution, she's about to die and she gains it from Nasir's own influence of evolution, this doesn't happen with the other concepts because they're more self contained to the person. Prometheus hasn't perfected evolution allowing it to be received genetically, evolution itself is missing the primal ingredient of evolution, aka Prometheus is stumped because he can't progress in his work, but that's just because his missing piece is Roya aka evolution growing through bloodlines and evolving like natural and actual evolution.
There is more to this, like heralds of the concepts and the general idea of the forebearer, who is my idea of the basically MC of the concept, the rover or the traveler like from wuwa and genshin basically. But this should be enough to hopefully give your ocs abilities for each? I tried to make the reasons for getting the concepts vague enough that you can reasonably just pick one and have it fit, but still be detailed enough that you can really dig into it. It's entirely possible for two or more entities to want to bless one person because they fit their favourite kind of person, it's really just a matter of who gets to them first or meta wise whichever power you like best for them.
@rainbowprisimatic @uncreative-cryptid I hope you both don't mind the tags, but I mostly really wanted to make this more public because I very much want to put everyone's ocs into this system, i unfortunately don't have much of a world yet, like cities or kingdoms beside Cecilia's kingdom that is was ruled by that king who had space's blessing, and that's got some sorta rebellion going on, the people want to revolt and Cecilia is secretly helping the revolution leader who she is also sorta gay with but she's also entirely planning to sacrifice them to free herself from the duty of the crown. The crown also has lore but that's not important to the general magic system and so will be yapped about at a later date. If anyone else has read this far into my ramble of a project then feel free to also put your oc into this magic system, which at this point is basically just "this is their view on time and so here are the powers they'd get" or whatever concept you prefer.
Oh also- people can have similar or the same powers here, because it's based on your views it just means if you have the same or similar power to someone that you've got similar or the same views, or opposite ones, like with chaos and order who often get pairs because of human association. To the entities chaos and order match as much as space and time does, they're the same but human views make them slightly different. Okay, it is really late I am tired and making more typos then I want to correct so we're done now, that is the concept based magic system of macrocosmic dream! Don't ask about power match ups like the rock paper scissors thing I have not figured it out yet except that evolution is basically a void element and it doesn't react negatively or positively with anything because of it's unique creation from humans instead of Eldritch entity
The truth behind the entities in macrocosmic dream
Also protagonist details! An entirely normal thing to be paired don't worry about it-
The entities behind the power of the blessed are commonly believed to be gods of some kind, ancient beings aiding humanity and the planet, but this is not true. The earth has gods, and they are nothing like the entities that exist beyond the sky. Gods on the planet, no matter how grand or ancient, are still connected to the earth. The old snake giant of lore still comes from our snakes, the sun lion was once a creature that roamed this land, with people it would blend in with, even the gods from the dawn of humanity resemble its people.
The concepts have no such ties to any known beings. On the few occasions you truly see them, and not just feel their presence in their wayward energy looking for a host, you will immediately notice that you can't quite see them. A fog of space dust and dead stars warps your view of them, the milky way clouding your eyes, leaving only the briefest glimpses of appendages too large to fit in the most spacious plains.
Time creaks and warps, changing yet staying the same, growing older and younger in seconds, hair cascades around you, if it can be called hair, before it thins and falls and then grows again.
Space is always too large, it's presence is felt through the mist surrounding you and towering beyond you like a giant of hills and rocks, or perhaps steel and concrete from tall buildings, it is every place and nowhere all at once.
Order bleeds, gaseous liquid dripping through the remains of dead planets, If the smell doesn't repulse you, you might be lucky enough to spot bones through the fog.
Chaos whirls around you without end, nauseous salt from giant waves overriding your senses, whipping winds that throw you around before you can even glance at what may lay beyond the veil.
Evolution remains one with man, the titan insisting on bringing the rest of humanity with him
These are not gods, not of earth, and they do not seek its protection. They have been influencing our earth for thousands of years, but they did not always exist here, humanity predates their presence here, but despite this, humanity still cannot grasp the true extent of their power. Humanity knows not what the blessed truly are, the best of their research in the modern day has concluded only a few simple things, that those blessed do not tire, do not exhaust, they remain stronger than the average man, and... They also die sooner than the average man. If they do not die in battle from fighting against corrupted animals, they naturally start to die 20 percent faster than the average human (do not do the math I picked that number from my ass). Often times, the ones blessed will be the only ones able to fight the corrupted, and so only recently did the humans have enough data to truly confirm this.
Those blessed with evolution find their bodies in a state of pain and instability. The titan can't find out why, no matter how many test subjects he seeks.
To some, this is irrelevant, such is the price of strength beyond mortals after all, who cares if they lose a few years? To some it's blasphemy to suggest the concepts are dealing out dangerous prices, the government providing over the Nagas and their city are one such, for in their belief they believe the concept of order to be their beloved god who died to provide them a home. Such is why order finds itself so entwined with snakes in imagery to this day. Others are terrified, they did not choose such powers, yet they must pay such a great cost? And others.. others simply don't care. Such is the joy of humanity, they will never come to the same conclusion on a single topic.
The truth behind the price of power? Entropy. Once, so long ago that no planet remains from that time, a being was created. The concept of primordial entropy. In such an ancient age of primordial gods beyond anything on earth, beyond any understanding, they were made as the origin of the end. The universe undergoes a state of entropy that slowly but surely spells it's death.
Entropy, as the birth of the end, was lonely, the other primordial beings long since born, the start was something they missed, and in their lonely state, entropy decided it wanted a family. It ravaged a planet of flesh, and order was born, a life to create a death, a death to create a life. Even the end is a cycle. Soon after a planet of perpetual storms fell, and chaos came into being, raging and enjoying left and right, wild as it's namesake and it's origins, for the end does not come quietly. A planet with tall mountains and deep ravines fell next, and space appeared next, for if there is nowhere to exist, there is nothing to end. And soon after, twins to the end of time, time grew into being after a planet full of life was destroyed in its prime. Entropy was happy, for it finally had a family, children and companions to give it joy in its eternal duty, in its task to herald the end of all life across the cosmos.
Very long after, the five came across earth, a new planet to bring to an end. The concepts were amused by humans, so very different from the other lifeforms they'd barely passed a glance at, and stronger too. For you see, earth could not be destroyed. No matter how the four tried, the planet would not crumble, the power of its gods and deities flew into the crust of the planet, acting as a barrier to the core they craved.
Entropy sighed, amused at its children, and proposed an idea. Why not simply grow into the planets budding system? Cause entropy and disorder in it until they can finally break through. And so, the four concepts cut pieces of their beings free, spreading across the earth like a plague. Picking their favourite of the humans and sentient life forms, forming a connection to breach the planets very crust. Unfortunately, not all creatures are made equal, animals were too small, not yet evolved with the grace of time, and so when they received the wayward pieces of the concepts their bodies crumbled. Corrupting and twisting into beasts humans now call the corrupted. Monsters that resemble animals, twisted by their concepts, they are driven mad by the otherworldly transformation and grow hostile to anything that moves.
Beings made of metal and wires find themselves immune in recent times to the conceptual attacks of the corrupted. Even from the blessed. If a fire summoned by chaos is used to melt new machinery, for some reason it barely burns it at all. This has been dismissed by major governments and leaders, and the titan prefers it that way.
Humans, however, were lucky enough to be compatible with the entities power, merging with it at the cost of their health and life. Dying faster, becoming corrupted by the otherworldly power to the point they no longer need to rest like a normal human, ones who need no break for sprained muscles or no sleep to regain strength. Because of this, to survive the animals once susceptible to corruption started to evolve, giving rise to the humanlike species that litter the earth today. Gods of animals sacrifice their forms, their sanity or their lives to ensure their domain can successfully merge with the gift of humanity, so they may survive the radiated energy of the stars.
This power the blessed receive, it doesn't just benefit the human, but it harms the earth. Piggybacking on the blesseds connection to the planet, it uses that to slowly break into the barrier protecting the earth. Forgive the break from the fancy talk I just don't know how else to explain it, basically the powers are like a virus on a phone that's connected via charger wire to a pc, the wire is a humans connection to the earth, and the entities spread their power through that wire to attack the earth to break it's defenses basically.
The last consequence... Is one only heard of in myth. Primordial beings choose heralds to suit their power, so full of their entities gift that they merge with it and become its spokesperson for their people. Somehow, a very long time ago, this knowledge reached earth. Those who know of it are rare, but it is what leads us to the final consequence.. if a being compatible with the entities power on earth obtains too much of it, that being will corrupt just like the wild animals raving in the woods.
A power hungry man heard from a titan that he could become a god if he stole the blessed's gift of his concept type, many have reported their gifts being stolen and feeling incredibly sick afterwards, but no progress has been made in the investigation.
If nothing changed, it was certain that the entities plan would come to fruition, that earth would fall to entropy.. but, entropy itself would happen to change that. With its children focused on the earth, it once again grew lonely, and so it observed the humans as they grew and learned, and... Entropy grew fond. It observed their silly love for eachother, and wondered how beings could be so simple? An act of impulse led entropy to its next decision, it would sacrifice it's primordial form and become human. Its children raved and it cooed and calmed their worries. It would not be permanent, it would simply be a disguise, it would leave it's great power to each of its children, the little of itself that remained would take human form and learn truly how these little creatures lived.
Finally, the entities relented and agreed to their forebearer's plan. It was just amusement for them all after all, except.. it wasn't.
Entropy spent years with the humans, memory erased by it's diminished power, and it learnt love. It saw families with their children, partners together, friends running to embrace eachother. It saw and learned of love in all its forms, appreciation, care, compassion.. it learned all of it, and soon, it's memories came back and entropy was filled with dread.
It had to stop its children, they could not be allowed to destroy this world! The universe could not allow entropy to start, entropy could not allow its children to fulfil its role. For entropy itself was the universe coming to an end, and now entropy longed to stop it.
Alas, its children had grown arrogant in their power, refusing to heed their progenitors small demands and pleas. Entropy knew the humans of that day could not learn enough to stop it, it was no time for progress, no space for growing together, the order was clear, chaos against their gods or their rules was to be punished. And so, entropy decided it would find a better time, a better space, a better order to ensure the chaos of entropy could be slowed or stopped.
In a last desperate attempt, entropy gathered together as much power as it could steal from its children, and tried to force them to stop. It's children, displeased at the betrayal, sealed away the rest of entropy's power and locked them away in a human ruin. When it woke up, surely it would come to its senses they decided.
And so, it remained there for thousands of years, until finally... The cave is found, and in the midst of archeological discovery, the humans there find... A human. Freshly awoken and confused, in a part of the cave long since sealed. The human has amnesia, they cannot remember where they came from, only that they must do something, that something is not right. Deciding that there is no way they could have broken into the ruin, they are dubbed
The forebearer.
The main character of macrocosmic dream, or basically the traveler/rover equivalent. The first seal on them to break after being woken up was time, and so their powers of time return to them, making it the first concept type they unlocked and can use. Slowly, as they explore the new land before them, they shall remember and uncover the truth of the entities and their own existence as the forgotten fifth entity. Its children have grown arrogant and uncaring in the years since they were sealed, but no longer shall it turn a blind eye to their lack of care.
...tada! I hope that was clear, here's a non flowery rundown
The entities are cosmic horror creatures made by the concept of entropy itself, which is itself the universe deciding it wants to end. The other primordial beings are just parts of that universe manifest, so at youth it was the concept of birth or something similar, and when it grew it became a new primordial god with the other one dying. The MC is the universe and it's entropy basically. The entities are its heralds of entropy, and earth is the latest victim of the universe's end.
The powers are cosmic radiation, the blessed dont get tired because they are mutated, they get markings of their concept from that unique radiation wavelength, and animals that can't cope become mutated into dangerous beasts.
I wanted the MC to be the universe Because of the idea of an uncaring universe and how it's wrong. The universe can't be uncaring because we exist and we care, we are part of the universe. When the universe is made to meet and mingle with us, it learns care, it starts to care for us because we care so much, and so its journey is to convince the entities to care to varying degrees of success. The universe cares and loves you, because you care and you love.
Evolution as the man made concept is more dangerous then the others, it doesn't do the same things like siphoning power from the earth's barrier, but it does harm the human body because Prometheus is still learning to fine tune it, think of it like the havoc element from wuwa, which to my understanding causes all its users some kind of pain because of the nature of it. Or something like that, I'm tired and I've spent like an hour writing this again. He's stumped because this is his biggest roadblock but no matter who he gives evolution to they suffer from pain from the radiation. Roya is his missing piece, because she was born with that radiation she is immune to it basically, ironically though she is not devoid of chronic pain from her radiation/concept mark purely because she got herself Laser shot in the back right where it was, causing chronic pain that way. Nasir hates that roya got hurt but is also extremely grateful because it hides this, it hides that she has an evolved form of evolution that Prometheus needs to perfect it.
Heralds are the equivalent of the sentinels resonators in wuwa, champions of their respective entity, they are more of a late game edition after the forebearer has convinced the entities to see the care of humanity and in turn care for it themselves. Roya is the eventually herald of evolution after Prometheus gets his hands on her, and also technically a budding concept due to her ties to it. It's complicated and something new, so nobody knows even the entities, what she classifies as. Is she a god? An entity? A herald for an element without an entity? Meanwhile the other heralds are people who are beyond humans. One is a god of consequence who was sealed away long before the entities arrived to earth and is basically in a "get along and be nice to humans" shirt with her entity. The other is a human who was already the blessed of a god, reincarnated back to life because it was too scared to lose her, thus allowing her to be able to handle the entities full power and act as its herald. I... Do not have the other two yet. The god is the herald of order and the reincarnated demi human is the herald of time. I'll get more into orders deal with humanity in the Naga city post, but for now that's it, I'm free from the building!
Ps. Thank you madoka magica for low-key inspiring the corruption thing. That is entirely from witches, I want my space powers to come with the horrific consequence of turning into a monster. Though uh it is not guaranteed to happen like in pmmm, if you somehow gain more and more of your entities power you're gonna corrupt into a beast, but normally there is no way or reason to do that, so people are commonly just mildly irradiated
The biggest ruling force in the current world is a kingdom, ever growing and remaining loyal to its ways. The kingdom has never once changed hands, it is the oldest and largest force of people in the land. While other countries and cities got conquered and absorbed into others, or started again miles from home, cosmosium has never once fallen. Attempts have been made, neighbouring kingdoms storming their gates in the ancient past, but even when their attempts succeeded they never remained the king, for only a few years after their reign they'd pass the crown to the next member of the royal family of cosmosium, the sognare's, and soon after the crown was passed they were thrown to rot in cells beneath the castles towers.
This in itself has garnered the kingdom plenty of fame, for ever since it's founding by king sognare, the sognare family has remained the ruling royals, never once faltering in their place in the hierarchy of the kingdom. Rumours say king sognare's last words were a prophecy, for before his death he declared "for as long as the crown is worn, this kingdom will never lose its king!" Of course, perhaps that was just the dying wish of a man losing his creation to legacy, or a reassurance to his people that they will always have a king.
The outer, smaller towns on the border of the large city of a kingdom at the center of the region suffer greatly, for the kingdom, ever since it's founding, has always strived to expand. Every few decades the poorer folk who can't live inside cosmosium's large city walls have to move further out, away from the kingdom, as they cannot afford to live inside the stone walls guarding the city's innermost riches. The wall expands every few decades, it's a long effort and it grows longer with every time it must expand but the current monarch always agrees that they must expand. Leaving the folk not lucky enough to be born inside the kingdom forced to be displaced at the whims of their greedy king.
The lower class recently has become upset at the ever growing pursuit of the royal family, tired of the lies, as former heirs to the throne have promised to give them stable homes, a place inside the walls, but everytime they are crowned king they go back on their promises. Power corrupts all, and the powerless are sick of it. Sick of their greed to tame and claim every part of the wilderness and turn it into their perfect cities of stone.
Recently, because of this, a rebellion has formed located in the wilderness of cosmosium, determined to strip the nobles of their wealth and distribute it to the poor, and to rid the king of his crown to finally fulfill the needs of the people. The leader of this rebellion is a woman named Delia cornicello, she is a humanoid, specifically a species of humanoid I haven't named yet that comes from goats. Goat horns that point backwards adorn her head, a species native to the wilderness of cosmosium. She has declared if the rich shall not help the poor, then she shall! The children and people of the smaller villagers of cosmosium adore her, for she often brings them colourful new clothes and tools the nobles have restricted to the rich and the city bound, while the nobles in the city walls fear her, afraid she is a beast of the wild coming to destroy their carefully built civilization.
The rebellion is well on its way to being a serious force king calogero, the current king of cosmosium, must face, as the king cannot keep dismissing them as poultry riots from peasants after they hatch their latest plot to hinder and stop the throne. By the time the forebearer arrives, the tension is growing, most nobles sneer at the wild folk from the villages, dismissing Delia as a folk tale and a petty thief, nothing to worry about. While most common folk cheer her name, lying and supporting her when they can.
One thing is certain about Delia cornicello, she is never really seen when seen, never found when found, and never caught when caught. She vanishes like that, disappearing without a trace thanks to her blessing from chaos.
Truly, out in the villages everyone is talking about Delia and their hopes for her. Meanwhile though, in the city the main topic of debate is crown heir Cecilia sognare, every noble seems to sing her praises while the common folk spit at her name and what she represents. For the nobles she is the epitome of grace, of noble royalty. Every previous royal has a niche of knowledge they specialize in, never once repeating the previous heirs area of expertise, and Cecilia's was declared as herbology ever since she was young. She has been studying various plants and their effects on the human body for as long as she can remember. An expert in medicines and poisons alike, for this is what she must learn to help further the crown.
The wilderness is accepted only if it can be claimed, studied and grown perfectly for human advancement, and Cecilia represents that. Every plant deemed useless to humans, ineffective to them, is often dismissed when the city expands ever more. While the ones she claims to be useful, be it poisons or medicine, are kept and grown deep in the city walls, their wild counterparts left to die beneath new buildings and constructions.
The latest talk is on her coronation, soon she will receive the crown from her dying father and become queen. The king has grown ill recently, likely why it was decided for Cecilia to study the benefits of remedies in plants, she is the youngest heir to be crowned, and the king has decided she will be next in line instead of her older brother. They coo at her bravery, at the responsibility she will shoulder at her age, most heirs are crowned at 30, when the previous king is older, but due to his faltering age king calogero is determined to crown his daughter at 22, before he passes on.
There is a secret to this feud, a hidden plot the forebearer discovers upon learning of the rebellion and seeking them out to help, for the forebearer suspect their child of space to be the driving force behind the city's intense desire to claim more space for itself. It is then that they discover the secret ally of the rebellion... Cecilia herself.
She has reached out to the rebellion of her own accord, declaring she too is tired of the crown and wants to help the people. Knowing their distrust for her willingness to stick to that claim after she's crowned, she has suggested a plot Delia has turned into their newest plan to stop the throne from its conquest. On Cecilia's coronation day the rebellion will crash the event, she will never have the chance to even wear the crown before the rebellion takes it and claims it for the people. And with her coronation day coming up, the rebellion and Cecilia are busy preparing their plan.
The two are also... In a relationship. It started when Cecilia came to the rebellion a while back, for this scheme has been a while in the making, and recently by the time the forebearer is there to be a witness their relationship has blossomed. Going from unlikely best friends to lovers, the trapped princess and the hero find comfort in eachother, no longer needing pretenses and masks, simply being eachother's grounding force. The sun and the moon, forever rotating together in harmony.
Now generally if this was a game like wuwa and genshin the preparing for the coronation scheme would be the first big part of cosmosium's quest, learning of the rebellion and the scheme being about half of it while preparing for it and getting used to the unequal class differences and some hints at deeper lore is the second half.
The coronation happening would be like the second large chunk of the questline, and I'll get into that right now
The forebearer attends the coronation, human nerves buzzing with anticipation as they join the crowd of nobles and commoners alike. Cecilia is dressed up, a gown of orange, yellow and silver weighing her down as she slowly walks towards her father, king calogero, a man who looks sickly and pale but still keeps walking, the forebearer can feel the presence of space on this man, infecting his every laboured breath. Cecilia kneels when she reaches him, as he lifts the crown off his head and holds it over hers, this is when the rebellion strikes. The doors bash open, people from the crowd shout as others remove their disguises and make for the clear path, the king drops the crown in surprise but before it can hit Cecilia's head, it simply phases through her instead.
The crown is grabbed by Delia as the mirror protection of Cecilia vanishes, the real Cecilia reveals herself by the entrance, a forced smile on her face that doesn't hide the sadness behind it as Delia looks confidently at her. She declares this the rebellions final attack, for now they hold the crown and they can save their kingdom from this constant growth that destroys all it's resources. The common man shall flourish like the rich she declares as she places the crown on her head... And then, she stills. The forebearer feels it first, the flow of space in the crown and now in Delia as the woman speaks with a voice that doesn't feel like her own. "My kin.. you pass the crown so readily?" Cecilia doesn't look surprised as vines start bursting from the floor, summoned by Delia's blessing, but... Her blessing and her view of chaos had nothing to do with plants.
"I see. Very well then. This kingdom shall flourish with this vessel and its poultry knowledge. And before long you shall return to your rightful place-"
She does not let her beloved finish speaking another's words, wordlessly slicing a vine that slowly crept towards her and vanishing. Chaos erupts in the throne room, noble and common alike scared by the sudden rage of thorny vines and plant life, the forebearer uses their power of space, and whatever other powers they've unlocked by this point probably time, to escape the castle. On the cobbled streets they can see the throne room and higher peaks of the castle consumed by vines. This is not what Delia would do, and the forebearer knows space is involved, they are unable to get through to the space inside of Delia, and so they follow their only lead, Cecilia, trying to find her trace to stop this disaster.
I uh, don't have any more dramatic story explanations here, I didn't think that far ahead and I gotta get this out to blab so forgive the more direct explanation. Basically the forebearer discovers Cecilia and learns from her that the reason the crown has never left the sognare family is because it's possessed. Not by the entity of space like the forebearer first thought but by king sognare, his power of space allowed him to put his space inside of the crown, possessing any wearers of it. Whenever someone conquered the kingdom and wore his fancy and elaborate crown, he would possess them and after using their body for his kingdom he would return the crown to the most suitable heir and continue ruling through them. That's why Cecilia is learning botany and medical plant knowledge, the crown absorbs the knowledge of the host like the core from amphibia, except instead of being the evil advisor to the king it is the king. Every new heir is given an area to perfect so the crown will have more knowledge to use for the kingdom. Cecilia is learning medical plant knowledge because the king is stumped on why his newer vessels have started dying younger, they are clearly growing sick and so they desperately needed medical knowledge to fix it. That's why she's being crowned early, calogero is dying and if the crown is passed on king sognare will get a new, healthy vessel and knowledge to fix this illness.
This illness is actually just radiation poisoning. The space from the king is in the crown and inhabits the wearers, that specific piece of space radiation has existed for so long it's becoming toxic to wearers of the crown, it's never been reabsorbed and kept safe for humans by space the entity because it's stuck in the crown. This is why it's a newer problem.
Cecilia admits she knew the whole time what wearing the crown would do, her whole life she's been prepped to become the next vessel of the throne, she can't even study what she wants to, can't learn swordfighting or fencing because the crown already has that knowledge, so she must do it in secret. This is also where it's revealed that Cecilia has the blessing of evolution, a concept type the forebearer has no knowledge of, claiming a titan blessed her and claimed it would free her, make her immune to the crown. She knew however that it would not work, and so ever since then she sought out the rebellion to stop herself from becoming a vessel to her kingdom and her family.
She knew Delia would become a puppet once she claimed it, it's okay she says, her beloved was just helping her, this is the price Delia was willing to pay after all... The forebearer refutes this, but Cecilia refuses to help.
I don't know what happens in-between this, but the plant thing Is because old king sognare's view of chaos is nature, the wilderness that needs to be tamed, so when he possesses delia her power shifts to his view of it. And while the forebearer goes to fight the plant king growing out of Delia, Cecilia shows up and fights it instead because somehow she got convinced to help. Again this part is not as well thought out as the first, but if it helps I imagine that fight to the song "mistilteinn tree crown without a ruler WITH LYRICS" by Juno songs. It's literally perfect for her except swap the lyric "with giant's bane, I make my stand!" To "with Titan's bane, I make my stand!" Because the power truly under her control comes from Prometheus, and her sword is called titans bane, because she is coming for him next. Her power will be hers and hers alone.
After this, the tree crown is destroyed in an epic boss fight, the king dying from the destroyed crown as his dream crumbles before him, and Cecilia leaves. Not going to see her brother who she defeated to reach the king, her dying great grandfather who even in death claims he did this for their family, for her, for their people, that advancement was the only way, or delia, freed but unconscious and weakened. She leaves and she never looks back.
Meanwhile the forebearer presses on, knowing it will return to Cecilia one day to comfort her and return her love, but for now it must call upon it's child to see what it's blessing has done and to stop its plan to destroy the earth.
Space... Does not really care either way. It watched its king grow and grow as much as he could, and now it's parent is free and it has watched countless humans fight for the space to just exist without growing or being perfect. It is moved by the display, moved by their countless dreams, and so it relents. The earth's barrier safe from space trying to reach it for now.
Oh thank fuck I think that's it. I think I'm done with cosmosium I can finally blab about vessel Cecilia and her gay ass doomed relationship. @rainbowprisimatic i want you to know I got this idea for her relationship from her twst relationship with lagi during that wishing festival, where she did really enjoy being his friend but also entirely was using him for her own plot. That is just now a signature Cecilia pre running away thing for her to do. She matures out of it enough to go save Delia despite having her freedom now and doesn't repeat it in her future relationships, but still a universal Cecilia blunder
I made Delia a goat humanoid because of her new last name, cornicello, it's an Italian good luck charm that's little horns, it's not normally based on a goat but fuck it goat Delia. This is because besides Diana as her inspiration another one is now bulla Felix, a maybe made up bandit from Rome who was described as a person who "combined the attributes of Zorro and the scarlet pimpernel (he could never be caught) with a robin hood-like concern for social justice" his name is apparently roughly translated from Latin as lucky charm, so her last name now is a lucky charm.
To Delia chaos is the hidden evils of the world, slowly growing more and more vile untill it cannot be ignored and the crown is one of these evils, this gives her the power to turn herself invisible, the view coming from herself having equal ground against the hidden evils lurking everywhere. The purple and gold she wears is stolen from the rich, and she often hands out other colourful clothes the poor can't afford like bright colours such as purple, commonly known for being a colour of nobles due to how hard it was to gather.
Her second inspiration, bulla Felix, was also only caught after he was betrayed, just like Delia was caught by the king after Cecilia betrayed her for her own freedom. I imagine the main city as a giant circle with stone walls, lots of houses inside and the castle being in the dead center, there's smaller greek inspired villages on the outskirts of the big city, these houses are constantly torn down because the city advances physically and they need to be destroyed for room, but once there was a time when those villages weren't anywhere near the main city. The theme being more nature Vs man, if it was like wuwa or genshin the city would be the first map shown with minor parts of the wilderness around it, and the next big map update would include the rest of the wilderness that Delia and her rebellion hid in as the forebearer seeks to learn more about the crown. Hopefully this kingdom is enough for a few ocs to be properly put into macrocosmic dream, some could live in cosmosium, either in the big city or the wilder villages, it's some worldbuilding I hope will help with adapting ocs to my world. Which I really hope you guys do, or like anyone else who is reading this, I wanna put others ocs into this so badly I have been holding it back for like years I gotta play dolls in my elaborate brain world
