Art of the Union

This is my personal #bestnine not based on likes and algorithms, but rather my favorite pieces that I created over the past year. 

I know the rules of the internet state that you shouldn't be boastful, but the year was a big one for me. After years of making "not now, I can't" excuses, I finally left my job to be a full time freelancer - a goal that I had since my teenage years. 

Will be finished with this drawing soon. I've always liked drawing sports figures because there is such a sense of movement and strength. 

Turn the sound on! I wanted to do some audio & video practice, so I took my illustration that was inspired by the book “Blitzed” and edited some audio with a quick animation.

I had the great opportunity to create the art for NPR’s season 2 of “Embedded.” The podcast goes in-depth into little known stories from Trump’s past. Check it out!

My newest work. Check out the book that inspired this piece: "Blitzed" by Norman Ohler, in which Ohler recounts the history of Nazi Germany’s dependence on drugs to fuel itself. While you are at it, play “Wolfenstein: Old Blood” for my stylistic influences. 

Trump tweets incoming. Take shelter. This is not a drill. Donald Trump routinely launches barrages of tweets towards whoever has aggrieved him in child-like tirades not seen before in any previous President.

According to statistics released by the Southern Poverty Law Center, U.S. hate groups increased from 892 in 2015 to 917 in 2016 - a trend that has left President Trump seemingly unconcerned. Many in these groups have been enticed by the likes of Sebastian Gorka and Stephen Bannon working side-by-side with Trump. 

To my DC friends: I will be taking part in a 10 artist group show titled "Kakistocracy." The event will be held at 1052 Thomas Jefferson St, NW DC (Baked & Wired) and opening night is Thursday, May 11 from 6:30 - 8:30. My piece in the show is the above drawing; feel free to come out and support the show and artists!

Lost in the brutality that has been witnessed throughout the Syrian Conflict are the consistent human right’s abuses of Bashar al-Assad. Torture and death are implemented policy in the country’s squalid prison system; as well as the starvation of towns and the use of chemical weapons on civilians.

With just a day left in President Obama's final term, I've been going back through 8 years worth of art - starting with my first drawing of Obama, way back in 2009, when the question was as to how he would transition from Bush's Middle East policies. (Answer: Drones).

Long before the modern foodie was having do-it-yourself ramen noodles delivered to their doorstep, food-lovers had been stewing, chopping, and frying their ways through recorded time. "Savory History" is a video series that will teach you how to make whatever recipe kept your favorite historical figures full as they shaped the past.

Recipe no. 2 will get you in the proper holiday mood as we follow the steps to preparing Franklin Roosevelt's Chestnut Stuffing. Remember that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself ... and terrible food.

Sometimes when you've been too sick to draw, the self-marketing gods smile down upon thee and make an old drawing relevant again. Oh Anthony Weiner, your perverted inhibitions are just as fame hungry as you are - and I'm reaping all the benefits. This election has taken the concept of “yes, and...” to an entire new level.

What lurks inside the mind of a refined neanderthal? What fills the brain of candidate who sees buckets of chicken as photo opportunities and bags of McDonald’s as a get out the vote strategy? Tell me which creatures lurk in the dark cavern where pussies are for grabbing, border walls are for building, and regulations are for repealing. What inhabits the leathered plain where Rosie O’Donnell is a campaign issue? What critters swing where presidential hopes start as a marketing blitz for a new hotel, and you would totally make a move on your daughter… if not for the fact that you were her father, of course?

I do not hold the answers to these questions, but I also do not fear a Donald Trump presidency. It'll be a time when foreign aid will be doled out based on which country can team with Stephen Baldwin to make the best cologne display, and immigration policy will be reclassified as "Future Wife List." A moment in which the president will have his own factory in China and the White House is repainted entirely in gold-leaf. Move aside, Byzantine Empire. Take a seat, Dutch Golden Age. There's a new great epoch on the horizon, and it comes covered in self tanner.
