wesley-kelley:
Itâs a fun little moment watching his victim decide how to react to a ball of snow to the face. The laughter only encourages Wes, scooping up two more of his pre-made stockpile.
The insult hurled his way gets another bright peel of laughter followed by an impressed âOoh!â as the snowball lands just next to dangling leg. A little to the left and heâd have gotten a hit.
âIncoming!â he flings the two balls at the same time.
Bambi wasnât sure why having a snowball fight was even fun, but it seemed like it was, and it had been a long time since heâd ever had one. So much had changed and he knew some would find solace in the little things, especially those that gave them a little nostalgia.Â
This time, Bambi know the snow is coming, and he doesnât just dodge, but covers his face with his arm just in case he didnât manage to get far enough from the incoming balls.Â
âSomeoneâs a big kid! Donât you have anything better to do?â
He asks, but his big brown eyes are full of mirth as he picks up more snow, moulding it and throwing it back.
ladislav-jankovic:
Ladislav gave a small chuckle when the man asked him if it was true that Croatians drank a lot. He nodded his head, despite knowing that it was a blanket statement to say about everyone in his homeland. âI start drinking at early age,â he says. âIs common to have good drink where I am from. Not all of Croatians think so, but I am alwaysâŚtroublemaker.âÂ
âYou did? I wasnât allowed till I was 15, and even then it was a glass of wine with my meal, or a beer if I was lucky.â
He said with a small smile and chuckled. He wasnât allowed much stronger till he was 21, but he drank with his dad, beers over an engine as they fixed it. It was family bonding, and he missed it, but he supposed this was bonding really.
âYeah I can see you being a trouble maker as a kid, you still are. What about your sister? She doesnât seem like the alcohol at aged 10 kind of girl.â
thexspitfirex:
Yeah, he is one of them. The ones who didnât want to welcome her group in the first place. Even if he didnât say it, he is definitely giving off the vibe. Though granted, there isnât as much hostility there as some of them have shown so far. It doesnât exactly bother her much about being welcomed or not, because lets face it, Ellie hasnât really gone out of her way to be very friendly either.
âYour knife will be of no use to you if I turn violentâŚ.â
Now itâs her turn to let a small smile form on her lips. There is a lot of confidence talking and she certainly knows she isnât invincible, but she will never admit that out loud.
âI have my knives tooâŚand know how to throw with accuracyâŚso there will be no need to get close to you to plunge a blade into your gut.â
She offers him a wink, this time it is a little more playful than before, though he probably wonât see it that way.
âRight okayâŚso Iâll take them for nowâŚuse whatâs over there if they are useful..those what you pointed out..and see if I can make some headway with it allâŚbecause, shitâŚI have been meaning to start it all for a few fuckinâ days now.â
Sheâs thinking out loud, her train of thought going over everything she has done since arriving here and funnily enough, the moonshine has been finished before the generator has been started.
âRolling ya eyes pisses people off ya know?â
She canât help but smirk because eye-rolling is something she tends to do a lot when angryâfrustratedâboredâŚ.and the list goes on.
âYou should try it on Nate when you see himâŚhe absolutely fuckinâ loves to see a good roll of the eyes.ââhe hates it and Ellie damn well knows this.
Casting a look over at him, she nods.
âOkay. Suppose I should say cheers thenâŚso yeah..thanks.â
âOh, I donât know, Iâm quick.â
Bambi replied, but he wasnât used to teasing with strangers and he felt a little awkward, he hadnât decided if he liked her yet, but his opinion was mostly that she thought of herself as a tinkerer, and she was probably going to screw it all up. Still, everyone needed practice.
The way she made it clear she was only taking the offered bits of discarded material was a little comforting as he didnât like the thought of her taking his stuff, but the fact sheâd put this little project off for a few days told him she was inefficient and that was never a good trait, especially now their lives were always in danger. Why put off till tomorrow what you can do today?
âI know. But I roll them because people say stupid things or piss me off, so itâs kind of tit for tat.â
He said stoically, uncaring if he odd ended her, as she was a little annoying if he was honest.
âWell if I knew who Nate was, I probably would, because I donât give a shit who he is or what he likes.â
It was obvious whoever Nate was, he definitely didnât like people rolling their eyes at him, but Bambi didnât give two shits about this other group, until he was told they were one big group permanently, he was going to keep his opinions that they were nothing but a burden.
âYouâre welcome. Iâd say if you need help, come find me, but you seem the type to do it yourself, too proud to ask, and Iâm not the type to help you when I donât know you. So good luck.â
Part of him hoped her idea would fall flat on itâs face, but then, if it worked and benefit his group, heâd congratulate her for the aid.
Wes was, frankly, fucking losing it with boredom.
Itâs why heâs on the roof.Â
Heâd climbed out of his window, scooted up onto the roof praying it would hold his weight. It did. Itâs also happily holding the weight of a small arsenal of snowballs. Patiently waiting, humming to himself and near scraping the roof around him clean of snow, a victim finally walks by.
He aims. He shoots.Â
Wes is too damn pleased to completely smother his laughter.
Well, the last thing Bambi was expecting was a snowball to the face, he almost fell over with it, the shock and surprise more than the force of it, but it hurt, stung even thanks to the cold and after a moment of rage flickered through him like a pilot light not quite ready to ignite, he laughed.
âFucking asshole!â
He doesnât even wait to see who threw it, he was already bending to make his own snowball and threw with all his might, clearly at a disadvantage on lower terrain.

thexspitfirex:
âOh rightâŚ.and you have us all pegged and fuckinâ judged, yeah?â
Ellie looks over at him blankly. Why does it always seem when she tries to rein in her defensive attitude and show just a flicker of normal conversation, the other person just throws out a comment that gets her back up?
âand yet playing nice, just doesnât always come naturally at all to her, especially with those she doesnât know very well.
âFor all I knowâŚyou lot are thieves or even worse, just appearing to welcome peopleâthen swipe all their shit and have us for dinnerâliterally.â
She keeps her gaze on him, not sure if the slight hostility between the two of them will continue. Either way, it wonât bother her too much. She is pretty sure there are two lines forming, ones which like her and ones which donât and the latter line is far longer.
âFrom scratchâŚtried using an old generator at the police academy and it had been fucked withâsomeone had taken bits from itâŚso this time gonna do it all myself and I know exactly whatâs what.â
Her head tilts and Ellie looks in the direction he points before returning her visual back to him.
âSo if you have set them aside for laterâŚthe wires and shitâŚthat mean I canât use them?âŚbecause ya knowâŚwouldnât want to get accused of nothing.â
She shakes her head and rolls her eyes before letting out a heavy breath.
âI wonât tell you againâŚI took the tools because they were out on the side and not in anyones bagâŚnot like I was gonna fuckinâ keep themâŚso no..not stealingâŚusingâŚlendingâŚand tell me right now if I canât lend them, âcause you can have the fuckinâ things back!â
Bambi just smiled, not dignifying that with an answer as they both knew how he felt about the newer members of the base. He didnât need to say it again and he didnât want an argument. If he did, he wouldnât be offering a few materials for her to use, heâd probably be kicking her out of the hanger and telling her where to go. He was the mechanic around here.
âI canât speak for the others, but Iâm not a thief and donât worry, i have my knife ready if you decide to turn violent. I guess weâre all worried about that, but Iâm not the violent type.â
Not unless he had to be. He wasnât a big fan of any kind of bloodshed, but he knew it was a necessity and wasnât against it either, in fact he was happy to watch his friends fight his enemies when he was sure they would win. It was a little like a show, only he wasnât able to eat popcorn and there was a lot more risk.
âWell I donât need them for anything right now, so if you do, itâs logical you use them.â
He gave a shrug and then looked at her with a small roll of his eyes as she said she wasnât stealing. He really didnât care as long as it wasnât his stuff. If she stole from people like laid, sheâd probably lose a hand and that would be her penance, so he wasnât sure he actually cared at all.
âIf you want them, theyâre there, and if you canât get it to work, you can always break it down and put the bits back.â
Blood and Iron [Bambi & Rachel]
rachelxvanallen:
Rachel had just come from patching someone upâ a wound had reopened and was starting to get infected. Unfortunately the moment she started stitching it up again, it had started bleeding even more, hence any spots on her person. She looked up from her notebook, notes of the different wounds sheâd seen that were made by things that didnât used to exist amongst other observations and thoughts.Â
âShit, thanks,â she murmured, using her sleeve to wipe at her neck before raising a brow at her patrol partner for the morning. It was still early and theyâd be heading out soon enough. She hadnât really slept but that was one good thing about getting used to 100-120 hour weeks during her residencyââ sleep wasnât the crutch it couldâve been. âWow, Iâm honored,â Rachel deadpanned, accepting the coffee from him because she knew he wasnât really one to just grab it for anyone, keeping to himself more often than not.
She supposed theyâd come to an understanding during his limited time thereâ they didnât bother each other and only spoke when necessary. As amicable as any dynamic could be for her. âYou ready to go? Got another twenty before weâve gotta trade off.â It was dark out still but thatâs what the morning shift entailed and, truthfully, Rachel preferred being up earlier than most anyway.Â
Blood had once been something that Bambi wasnât keen on, it was something he couldnât fix, and he never liked that, but heâd grown used to seeing it as it was pretty much everywhere nowadays. He saw Rachel quite often covered in a spot or two, if not more, and the moment you walked off base there was so much on the streets, death was everywhere. It was quite funny really, seeing her with a little on her neck, and wondering just what she had been doing. He knew it would be something, but he did his best not to ask, he wasnât sure heâd like the answers.
He smirked a little when she said she was honoured and nodded to her. He had to agree, if heâd been put on duty with one of the new members of the base, heâd probably have a gun pointed at them as well as the fences, and he definitely wouldnât of made them coffee. But there were a few people he didnât mind, even liked, to a degree. They were all his dysfunctional and extended family.
âIâm always ready to go.â
Which was usually true, unless someone caught him in the middle of fixing something, then his attention was on what he was doing. But patrolling was important, it kept them safe and he knew it was a priority. Bambi never started a job he didnât think he could finish in time for his patrol shift.
âWho were you patching up?â
Who are your favorite people in the group?
âWhich group? Because in mine, itâs probably Ladi and Shia followed by Gabriel, but in this new group⌠well I havenât actually decided if I like any of them.â
Coolest car you ever worked on?
âJesus, carâŚ. How about the 1970 Camaro, that was a cool car.â
Have you ever done anything you consider morally wrong?
âAre you joking? Hasnât everyone these days?â

do you believe in destiny?
âI donât know. All logic goes against it, but itâs a nice notion, just a bit of a fantasy one.â
do you tend to be more of a follower or a leader?
âI think Leading people would be too exhausting. Canât I just be part of the group.â
Blood and Iron [Bambi & Rachel]
@rachelxvanallen
Bambi was never 100% sure how he felt about The Surgeon, maybe it was all that blood. He didnât know, but he was glad she was on their side, that was for sure. It was like Shia, it was better to know a psycho and like her, then to piss her off and worry heâd come to a quick end in his sleep.Â
Rachel had been someone he tried to get to know, and in a way he was still trying, despite the time theyâd been together in the group. He just wasnât great with people, and he doubted their differences helped.
âYou missed a spot.â
He said to her as he pointed to the splodge of red on her neck, probably from some spurting lab rat. Bambi might not of liked what she did, but he admired her work ethic, and she seemed to keep late nights like he did.
âAnd I brought you a coffee.â

âon a long enough timeline the survival rate for everyone drops to zero. everything dies. that doesnât matter. itâs how you choose to - l i v e - that makes the difference.â
a quick counter to the espousing of doom and gloom. for while it was easy to fall into the melancholy of this existence - there had to be some inspiration, some hope, some kind of fucking fight left in every goddamn persons bones to keep on going from day to day. and if that fight needed a little fuel to the fire, a little air breathed back into the flame as a reminder that they were â still fucking here â then gabriel was happy to provide said - spark.
âlaw does exist. anyone oversteps the line, and watch if i donât become judge and jury.â
the words arenât a threat. they hold that same steady tone, a clip of accent to each word. but he does believe that. the peace and relative safety of the group relied on just that. knowing that the people there wouldnât slit your throat in your sleep to steal a shiny trinket they liked the look of⌠or help themselves to ammo or a gun⌠or just for the sheer hell of it. sure, some of them were still granted the hard gaze from gabriel, not entirely convincing him of their⌠cooperative nature. but it had worked⌠up till now.
âmorality, honesty, loyalty⌠theyâre not extinct concepts. just because the world ended doesnât mean we have to â devolve. we arenât the same as the beasts out there. you want true lawlessness - take a stroll into the wasteland.â
the truck rode the hard ground with ease, rolling over potholes, gabriel manoeuvring carefully to avoid the worst, and any scattered debris in their way. however - where his previous words had been conversational⌠thereâs a sharper set to his jaw⌠a harder edge to those steel blue eyes as they kept track of their location. seemingly finally satisfied with their distance and rolling the vehicle to a halt. and before he retrieves his weapons and exits, there is a half turn, making sure he can look the other in the eyeâŚ
ââlogicâ doesnât know shit. not in this instance, and neither do you. so feel free to question my decisions. go right on ahead and question my choices. but donât ever question my motives.â
âWe live well enough, considering how fast that scale tipped from our favour.â
Which as something Bambi truly believed. Everything happened so suddenly, nobody expected the world to go to shit, let alone for it to happen so quickly. They all did the best with what they had and the hand they were dealt, they were still doing that now. Living was never going to be how it was, but they made do and Bambi tried to enjoy the little things, but usually for him, that was cleaning a carburettor or fine tuning a radio. He definitely liked that buzz, even if there was no signal from anyone or anything.
âOur reasons and actions are different now. Iâm not ashamed to say Iâd kill for a meal if I needed to now. Before I donât think I ever contemplated harming someone, but things change, and I would hope if you do become judge and jury, your sentences reflect the situation as it is now.â
Though he was glad someone still held true to the morals and rules of the world they used to have, he wasnât 100% sure they could be applied anymore. It made him feel like a bad person, but it was only human nature to adapt.
There was always going to be those people that would stab first and ask questions later, band people like Gabriel were there to stop that happening, but Bambi, he wasnât sure where he would stand on the matter. He might sit on the fence and watch the fireworks, or jump down to Gabriels aid. Maybe heâd have to be in the situation before deciding. But then, machines and technology didnât steal or lie, it was why he preferred to be around them to being around other people.
Bambi gets out after the other man, rounding the vehicle and watching their surroundings for danger. Heâd noticed a more quiet tone in the car, and he knew sometimes he could rub people up the wrong way if they sensed a lack of emotion, but he had never been one to get too attached and heâd adapted to this post-apocalyptic world by developing that skill.
âI wasnât, just giving an opinion.â
He replied honestly and gave a small shrug. He hoped he hadnât pissed off the older man, as it wasnât his intention, but he was stating what he saw, and potentially, how he would feel himself should a shadow of the old world fall upon him.
âAnd I didnât mean any offence, I donât know what your relationship is to these people or this person you know, but if theyâre from your past⌠Well if they were from mine, I think it would be hard to get past that.â
He followed Gabriel at a short distance, enough to talk quietly and have his back if it was required, but also give a different vantage point.
âI suppose as much as Iâd like to say Iâm detached, you guys are family, and Iâm not good with sharing with people I donât trust.â

âLucky for you, eh?â
She blinks, her expression stoic but her voice calm. It might sound like sarcasm has seeped its way into her wordsâbecause lets face it, this is usually the case, but Ellie is actually being genuine. Not once has she ever been able to leave her stuff around freely, not unless itâs bagged up anyway and even then, she usually stuffs it out of sight somewhere.
She watches as he moves closer, not really on edge with him at all. Ellie just knows from experience when it comes to conversations going downhill, it can happen at any time. The only time in the group it turned into a brawl though was with Bryce.
âJust thisâŚâŚthing.â
Her line of vision shifts to connect with him properly now and she feels like he is taking an interest, but she is not going to assume so in case he suddenly dismisses her replyâbecause that will just piss her off.
âGonna make a mobile generator from scratchâŚsomething that can be moved when we have to leaveâŚâ
âbecause they will have to leaveâŚit always happens at some point.
âGot a lawnmower motor as the main thing to build aroundâŚ.â
Nobody really takes much notice of what Ellie does when it comes to what she is experienced in. Only a couple have ever really shown interest and even then, it quickly filtered off when she talked about it.
âCould do with a few materials, yeahâŚwhyâŚyou offering to find some?..or just gonna point in the general direction?â
âWe were.â
Buuuurrnn...
Bambi kept telling himself to be polite, but it was hard. Luckily since their last encounter heâd spoken to Gabriel and after thinking about the other mans words and how he trusted them, Bambi was willing to give a little more of an olive branch than he was before.
When she said âthingâ he rose his eyebrows wondering if she knew anything about tools or just tried them all until she found one that fit. It was a little disconcerting, especially if she was using electrics.
âFrom scratch? Or from the shell of the old generator in the main hanger?â
Because heâd thought of something similar but it got put to the back of his âto-doâ list. But then she mentioned a lawn mower and his other option would of been a car battery or two, but he supposed a mower would work, if she could expand it.
When she asked if his reaction was to point in a general direction, he scoffed and nodded.
âYeah actually, the right corner of this hanger, thereâs some discarded metal, pipes and wires, things I set aside for use later.â
He shrugged.
âOr you could just make do with whatever you can scavenge without stealing from people.â
@machinexheart
Sheâs there before he is, and sees the previous patrol return. Masha talks to them briefly and they advise that she not stray too far, just stick to the parameter, that revenant were being found more frequently and it was better to bash their heads in then waste bullets and attract more with the sound. The thought of shooting something to death, if you could call shooting what was already dead killing in the first place, was already unappealing. The thought of bashing in a humanoidâs head was an even worse prospect. They spoke as if she was sure to meet them, rather than if, she didnât like that. It had never been like that before, the handful of times she had been on patrol had been uneventful, as was expected if you didnât stray off of the patrol path.Â
Well, she supposed if there was ever a time to find out how sheâd fare actively against these things, now was it. No more hiding, like she had done before she had come to base. No more holing up.Â
They could tell she was nervous, and she knew it was written on her face, despite the brave small smile she tried to put on. Her face always betrayed her. It was probably why they had been so helpful. A few people in the group were like her, hardly outside the walls, Doctor Rachel would be on that list of people if she werenât already a hunter who went out willingly. But eventually everyone got put on formal rotation. It was fair.
âGood morning Bambi, did you sleep well?â Masha greeted Bambi with a warm smile, she only knew him through her brother, but he had always been friendly with her. She much appreciated that he kept Ladislav company, and what he did for the group. âThe sun is not up yet.â She noted, somehow the fact that it was dawn made the patrol less intimidating, like the sun peaking through within the hour would warm and protect them from harm. A stupid, romantic, silly thought.
Time, itâs the one thing that is never really on Bambiâs side. Heâs usually working against it to fix or build something for the group and that was exactly what heâd been doing, it was a good job heâd checked the time or heâd of been later than late. Fate however made it so when he got there, he saw Masha still there, and from the look of it, she didnât even seem angry, so clearly he just made it.
He was straightening himself up when she spoke, and he nodded to her as she said good morning. He wasnât sure it was yet, but heâd been awake for hours, and was trying to wipe grease of his fingers before he answered her.
âSure.â
Okay, so he was less talkative than normal this early on, but he didnât mind the shifts they gave him, it gave him a break from staring at electronics and machines and helped his focus in the long run.
Bambi didnât mind patrolling, he didnât mind handling guns, though it wasnât his first choice, he could shoot, thanks to steady hands and a good eye. It came naturally to him, possibly because it was quite like everything else he did. He had to rely on his hands holding the gun steady and his eyes, the rest was just angles and logic to him.
Masha though, she looked a little less comfortable with their session, but maybe that was why they had been put on the schedule together. He glanced out at her comment and smiled to her. They didnât know each other well, but he knew enough.
âNot yet, dusk though, itâs a good time to patrol. Itâs hard to see the dark and the lights just touching the skyline.â
It was his attempt at comfort, as he could tell she was uneasy.
âDid you sleep well?â
