Scrooge McDuck was my first crush

Scrooge. Please. Stop being sassy for two seconds and bond with your honorary granddaughter.

1. there are actual dates that the duck-comics of today dislike to use.

2. Scrooge has friend-with-business-benefits

The first date we get is 1957

With Scrooge who has slightly smaller sideburns than normal. It’s neatly done so you can slot him to be any age in here, but! 

But, in 1957 Scrooge meets this young, blond, hunk of a business-man who tells Scrooge that he too has mined with Alaskan gold “but compared to you, very recently” 

No dates given, but damn do I still get the vibes that Scrooge is way-too-old-for-common-sense in this comic.

Anyway, the whole point of this comic is that Scrooge has an ongoing chess-game that spans for years with an anonymous opponent in the park.

Scrooge kind of assumes that it is this blond-hunk that he just made friends with. Mostly because he wants his intelligent chess-partner to be him. Because Scrooge and the blond-hunk are close. (like CLOSE)

They search treasures together.

Scrooge goes out of his way to make a trip to the north pole to save his friend-with-business-benefits from ending up lost and stranded

And the friend-with-business-benefits helps Scrooge to save his money-bin from the beagle boys.

Anyways, they are *very close* and all that jazz.

 Also, this all takes place during fifty years, because we have this:

There is even another comic frame, where the date mark just says “present day”, which was a pretty clever way to toe the line of the timelines in this story. We are supposed to know that *some* time has passed after 2007. 

And all this time Scrooge has imagined that this grayed-blond-hunk has been the one he has been anonymously playing chess with (There is even a montage)

BUT it is not. The-now-grey-formerly-blond-hunk does not even know how to play chess. INSTEAD. It was grandpa Beagle all along. 

I don’t know why, but I just kind of like this story.The “hmmm” ending where we are left with the knowledge that both Scrooge and Grandpa Beagle wish that they had found out who they had been playing against, but you, the reader, know that their anonymous friendship would have been destroyed if they ever found out.

And, Scrooge has a friend. Just like, a weirdly close friend who is super into him.

There are dates, and they really imply that Scrooge is much older than anyone is supposed to be.
