I made more sprites of my girl Dyna :3333 this time with her two signature weapons a massive hammer and a star launcher!
I made a Kirby OC while in the process of doing a pixel art landscape for her to sleep in. This is Dyna, a mechanic puffball! She has a little welding mask. I'll be adding more to her later :3

Did you ever wanna recreate scenes or imagery like on a Game Boy Advance or one of those older handhelds/at home consoles that had heavy limitations? This might be helpful to emulate that feel. I put together a list of canvas sizes (just Nintendo, sorry Genesis, Atari, and C64 fans) as well as bit sizes and palettes for a ton of different consoles solely to put myself under the same constraints they had when they were making games like Pokemon Red, Mother 1, and Chrono Trigger, and for later handhelds like GBC and DS. I'll put the canvas sizes and the palettes below for ya :3
Canvases
NES
Canvas Size: 256Ć240
The NES is just fuckin weird. Technically a 54-color palette, but can be expanded upwards to 448 through emphasizing the red, green, or blue of an image by combining them into what are basically filters., and only 54 can be displayed at one. It's just weird.
If I'm getting this correct the one above is the total range of colors that can theoretically be used, and the one below is the actual palette.
SNES
Canvas Size: 256Ć224
The SNES uses the 15-bit palette below. However, it can only display 256 colors at one time on screen.
Gameboy
Canvas Size: 160x144
Monochrome 4-shade, technically you can use a base 4-shade monochrome, but if you want to emulate the actual Gameboy screen, there are three palettes.
Gameboy Original, Unlit
Hex Codes from dark to light:
#294139, #39594A, #5A7942, #7B8210
Gameboy Original, Backlit:
Hex Codes from dark to light:
#004F3A, #00694A, #009A70, #00B582
Gameboy Pocket/Lite:
Hex Codes from dark to light:
#181818, #4A5138, #8C926B, #C5CAA4
The next consoles have too big of palettes for me to properly list out the hex codes lol.
Gameboy Color:
Canvas Size: 160Ć144
This is where it gets kinda weird and tricky. The GBC has a 15-bit palette normally, and can display tons of colors with games put out for it specifically, and can have up to 2,000 colors on screen at a time. That palette is above.
Then there is what happens when an original Gameboy game gets inserted. I won't get into all the specific tech, but the palette alters significantly:
Each row of colors on here is one of the palettes usable by the Gameboy Color when a Gameboy game is inserted, and only one palette can be used at a time. It even has a nifty sorting of what are the background versus foreground/sprite color palettes. OBJ1 and OBJ2 are sprite palettes and technically include 3 total colors: two and one transparent. Background colors have 4 total on the right. You technically don't need to use the OBJ colors unless you're trying to emulate like a screen or sprite that would pop up in the course of play over the top of the background.
Gameboy Advance
Canvas Size: 240x160
The GBA also uses the 15-bit palette I put up above, and can technically display every single color of the palette at once, but most games of the era only used a specific mode of the GBA that allowed 511 colors on screen at once.
DS
Canvas Size: 256x192
The DS uses an 18-bit palette:
And can display 32,767 colors at once (at which point I really heavily doubt you could cram that many colors onto the screen unless you're using a brand new color every pixel considering there's only 49,152 available pixels on screen lmao).
3DS
Canvas Size: 400x240 (upper), 320Ć240 (lower)
The 3DS has a 24-bit color palette. I'm not gonna display the full palette cuz that's a massive amount of colors (16 mil+), but it's virtually the maximum amount of color even your computer screen can display (save higher end monitors). I'm pretty much only including the 3DS for the canvas size, this game console had little to no restrictions in terms of the display besides the size of it. Also, yes, it is relatively old. The 3DS first released in 2011. The console is 15 years old.
This section is specifically for the people who wanna put their ocs or make art specifically for the pokemon games:
Pokemon trainer sprite canvas size Per gen:
Gen 1 (Red, Blue, Yellow): 56x56
Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, Crystal): 56x56
Gen 3 (Firered, Leafgreen, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald): 64x64
Gen 4 (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold, Soulsilver): 80x80
Gen 5 (Black, White, Black 2, White 2): 96x96
Gen 1-2 Pokemon Sprites:
1st Evo 40x40
2nd Evo 48x48
3rd Evo 56x56
This kind of internal rule to the evos is less prevalent in the later titles, but if you want to replicate it you can shrink the canvas to roundabout 5/7-6/8 the size of the overall for the 1st step of an evo line, and 6/7-7/8 the size of the overall for the second.
Total Sprite Size always 56x56
Gen 3 Pokemon Sprites:
Total Sprite Size 64x64
Gen 4 Pokemon Sprites:
Total Sprite Size 80x80
Gen 5 Pokemon Sprites:
Total Sprite Size 96x96
Here's a link to more video game palettes and if you want to look for them, display canvas sizes:

if you're a pixel artist and never tried working with a reasonably accurate CRT filter I HIGHLY recommend it
i'm definitely reaching for colors and techniques that i otherwise wouldn't use
it feels a lot more sculptural
oh, and you can pull bullshit like this:
I mean, not necessarily. There are color palettes and techniques that look fantastic on a flat screen, but horrid on CRT.
Like, look at this kitty:
Looks great here, but with a CRT filter? Completely obliterated.
Pixel art that wasn't designed to look good on a CRT doesn't always look better on CRT.
He has to be built with a completely different approach:
Cooking up my game mechanics until they're juuuuuuuuust right. I'm gonna have a new system bed to based all of my stuff off of!
How to modify D&D 5E to play just about anything
Go to a game store
Navigate to the dungeons and dragons section
Turn your head approximately five degrees either to the left or to the right
The books on these shelves are also tabletop roleplaying games. Many of them already have exactly what you're not getting from D&D 5E
In online stores, simply uncheck the "Brand: Dungeons and Dragons" box instead of turning your head approximately five degrees
You may find that some of these games don't have rules for hitting things with swords.
This is because rules for hitting things with swords actually aren't mandatory if the game is about something else. The game system for your "courtly intrigue in space" campaign might actually have no need for melee combat at all.
hey white people . if u dont know how to pronounce an ethnic persons name *google it* or if its someone ur talking directly to *ask them*. dont fucking do that "erm i dont know how to pronounce but __" or "im gonna butcher this haha" or "im not even gonna bother trying" . ur not funny. do u know what poc think when they hear u saying that ? u sound like a loser asshole and we dont want to spend time with u . im so fucking tired of watching youtube videos about media from my country and hearing those phrases. im tired of people saying that to my face . i respect someone who clearly looked it up and is tryong but says my name wrong over someone who just goes with whatever bad first guess they had without trying. u have too many resources at ur disposal to keep doing this. for the love of god just Fucking Try. if ur confused Just Try.
I highly recommend Forvo.com, the website where native speakers of a language contribute their time and voices to read words and names in their own language. It is a fantastic way to expand your world, open up your ears, and it's way more likely to nab a hit than just googling.
wow , I didn't know this existed, thanks so much for sharing the resource !! I will absolutely be using it now too š¤
One day I'll be the hot semi-popular streamer tgirl with D cups and I'll have. Like. An audience of people who have a parasocial urge to fuck me that compels them to sub to me and fund my existence. And I'll have D cups.

So this morning I found out that the RPG Maker forums will be shutting down this year, and itās really just another depressing thing to see.
If you read the link the company does of course say theyāre replacing the existing forums with new ones, and Iām sure no one would say the old ones didnāt perhaps need a lil bit of a glow up, some tech debt fixing⦠but thereās a few key notes in there:
They are NOT carrying over any history, data messages etc. from the old forums
They are NOT archiving, retaining or in any way saving the existing forums in any way
They have NOT provided any reasoning past āas part of continued efforts to support developersā
As an offhand, moderate read, this sounds to me like a desire for some change in the forums but deciding nuking everything is less expensive than rebuilding and carrying over info.
If Iām cynical, and likely realistic? Probably to increase sales of their latest GameMaker software by making it inherently more difficult for someone getting the older software for cheap pushing it to its limits. The amount of institutional knowledge on those forums is absurd.
And even if it is a benign reason, itās still terrible because what do you mean youāre doing this with no recourse or potential for change? You sell software that runs on community goodwill? In an era where people are pulling away to open source software?? Crazy.
There are yeeeaaars of answers, plugins, suggestion, community built up on those forums - Iāve used the em to learn and grow my own skillet!!! And soon it wonāt exist.
At the very least, they gave a āheads upā - the deletion occurs mid December, so archiving by the community is possible from now. Itās just absurd that it needs to happen in the first place.
Itās just reflective of how the industry is right now - and why itās so important for communities to grow and build up knowledge together, knowledge that is NOT reliant on a company that can pull the plug at any time in the very name of the very customers, users and supporters they are screwing over.
The good news is that other people are already starting external archival. Here's a couple posted on the r/RPGMaker subreddit:

I did a study of a Ponyo frame! This is with original Gameboy screen resolution and (backlit) colors!
Here's the reference image I used. The proportions and framing is different, but the gameboy is like going from widescreen to an old square crt tv lmaoo
I'm going to be doing more studies of ghibli frames on various console canvas sizes for fun :3 this was like a very interesting art puzzle. With wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much dithering.
