Material Finishes - 3D Render
Here is the final selection of the materials used for this furniture. for the main body, two types of wood were selected, dark walnut and light oak to blend in with the warmness of the indoor surroundings. For shelving, I have arranged glass to see through each shelf. The colour coordination's to match the outfit of the surrounding, that means the sitting area materials can be changed and the pillows can be selected from various range.
Model making: Pyramid
My inspiration for pyramid concept also continued from sketching to model making. Model making allows an object to be seen in real life along with its forms and constructions ideas. I used a grey board for the base to which the furniture model was placed. The white model board used for the body of the furniture along with red model papers used for the sitting and storages. Two seating arrangements made for this furniture one with one seat and the other with two seats.
Model Making: Snake
My inspiration for snake concept continued from sketching to model making. By making a model I establish the real form of the furniture and its functionalities. I used steel wear to produce the actual shape of the furniture, then constructed it using model paper and toothpicks by the use of superglue and Fevicol SH. Used a whiteboard for the base to which the furniture model was placed. Toothpicks act as a shelving unit for storage. Seating arrangements made on either side of the furniture.
Ergonomics positions and measurements
To maintain the right positions ergonomically it's always best to keep the angle range constant between 90 degrees to 100 for the perfect posture and backrest. Â Position of a person to keep hands and legs at right angle whilst looking at the screen or even reading books at an angle of 20 degrees. Â The height of the seats from ground level to be around 650mm, and table height is around 1300mm.
Combining both Pyramid options
This design combines both of the previous ideas. As it is pyramid-shaped, two of the faces have shelves which are ideal for storage. On the other edges, there are multiple sitting areas of different sizes. This pyramid furniture designed with four surfaces attached together with a flat base.
The ergonomic effect is maintained for this piece of furniture. The sitting units are prepared at an angle of 90 degrees, keeping back straight whilst seated.
I have sketched some drawings in 3 dimensions to see the overall design and its functionality. Â I like the outcome of this design and would like to consider and select this option for my final presentation.

Pyramid Sketch [Op -2]
This is the second idea of the pyramid concept that is similar to the first idea. Has the sitting arrangement on each corner of the front façade away from one another. The furniture has storage shelving at the top and bottom as well on the sides divided each unit with racks.
Pyramid Sketch [Op -1]
This is the first idea of the pyramid concept. The pyramid has been cut to allow the space for sitting and storing. The idea is to generate inside and arrange sitting space outside. One sitting arrangements proposed at the front of the furniture continued on the side. The main shape of the pyramid maintained.
Design Concepts – Pyramid (Inspiration)
I have recently visited Egypt country and have seen the pyramid. A pyramid has a structure, the has outside shells like triangular; where each side congregate to a single point at the top, that then makes that shape looking like a pyramid from the geometric view. A pyramid can have at least three triangular up to four outer surfaces.
I have developed this concept idea form the shape of ancient pyramids. Â I have explored cutting the shapes and orientations of the pyramid to provide sitting space and storage area. I have designed two options to explore the possibilities of the multifunctional pyramid furniture.
Design Concepts – Snake (Sketches)
My sketches show the functionality of this snake designed furniture, has two sides acting as storage, the left and the right side. The Front and the back of the furniture looks like a dome, with several shelving units for storage.
Ergonomically this furniture functions commendably with less or no hazard issues. On one side of the furniture allows sitting possibilities freely with no resting potentials on the back whereas the other side of the sitting area facilitates one from kneeling against the side of the furniture providing support for the back.
This design seems very achievable and easy to construct. However, the design might be slightly simple for my outcome.
I am quite happy with the design concept of this multifunctional furniture hence I would try making the model to perspectives of these fixtures and to whether choose this furniture as my final selection.
Design Concepts – Snake (Inspiration)
I returned my research back to nature where I then came up with the next idea. As I was walking on the park passing by the lake a snake slithered towards the bushes. The next concept idea developed to form the waving movements of snake-like an S shape. The idea began to pile up radically resulting in the concept of its shape, whilst designing aesthetically. Both end head and tail act as a seating unit whilst the middle part act as a dome of storage with some shelving units. I wanted to maintain the shape of the snake hence moulded the shape in a way that appeals as a piece of furniture without having to destroy the form.
