wrenn liked their psychology professor a lot. they really went out of their way to make them feel comfortable and always gave positive feedback when wrenn needed it. they were patient with their speech issues and sometimes gives them homemade cat food for mr.whiskers since they know it was hard for wrenn to keep the cat home when they were at school. so when they needed to stay behind to give them a thank you card and potential fortune, they didnât feel nervous. ferris was probably the only adult to not make them feel nervous. ââŠ.professor?â they said quietly tapping sotfly at the door. âdo youâŠ..have a momentâŠ?â
Ferris didn't let themselves have a soft spot for many of their students. For one thing, lecture sizes only seemed to grow, and attendance was hard enough as it was let alone getting attached to any one face in the sea of faces that they spoke to. But further than that, even, was a basic fear, a paranoia that if they did open up they would be... Undewhelming. They taught about struggles, some of which they experienced and some of which they hadn't, and they worried that as a person their struggles would be seen before, or perhaps instead of, that person. It was frightening. But Wrenn had earned their near immediate trust, a strange kind soul with a cat they liked to treat when they had the time, and they seemed safe, for lack of a better word. Ferris had been trying to organize some files at their desk when Wrenn approached this time, and Ferris gave an apologetic smile. "Hey. I didn't mean to keep you waiting, um." They closed a binder around the papers they'd be bringing home to look over. "Of course! What's the occasion?"
