The One and Only

“Would it help if I apologized?”

“Yes, actually. I will accept an apology.”

“Oh course not, I recognize my own husband. Just surprised to see you drinking tea is all. Perhaps he’s rubbing off on you?”

“Nonsense.. I’ve always enjoyed tea. Just not as much as Lorcan.”

“And it’s cold.”

“That’s beside the point.”

“Morning…”  Lorcan mumbled, still groggy after the long night.  “Well, our walls are much thinner than I’d like…think you could cast a silencing charm next time?”

“I’ll have to talk to the missus about it, but I’m sure she won’t mind.” Lysander grinned widely. “Anyway, what are your plans for the day, hmm?”

“Isn’t that the whole point of being a couple? I’m supposed to tell you when you’re aiming too high and then you prove me wrong. And while I’m being starstruck by how amazing you are, you get down on one knee and—no, wait, it’s all about the sex.”

Lysander gave her an incredulous look. “Uh. Of course, it’s all about the sex.” Hoisting Maria up by her waist, he tossed her on the bed and crawled over her to lay obnoxious kisses in the crook of her neck. “It’s all about the sex, and the waking up next to you every morning and the taking care of you when you’re sick and the grocery shopping together and everything else that marriage entails. But mostly, it’s all about you and me spending the rest of our days together.”

Maria furrowed her brows as she allowed Lysander to pull her toward him. “Okay. A couple of questions. Firstly, how do you plan to effort a, and I quote, our own place, end quote? I thought you were saving for the wedding of the century?”

Lysander smirked. “I think it’s really cute that you don’t think I can do it all, darling.”

“Are you implying that once the borders open up I don’t have the option of staying? Or that if I decide to drop out and not continue my education that I’m not welcomed to crash here?”

“What? Of course you’re welcome here. Don’t be silly, love. I’m just saying this is nothing permanent. You and I will have our own place to decorate and paint soon.” Lysander gave her a bright grin and wrapped his arms around her. “Come on, now. Give me a smile. You know you want to smile; you’re so in love, you can’t help but smile at your handsome hubby-to-be.”

“As good as I can be I suppose. And he has, same as ever,” her lips quirked into a smile at that. Still as shy and awkward as usual, even when she finally got him naked. “We have been spending quite a lot time together,” she agreed. “And what about you, holding up okay all things considered?”

Lysander bobbed his head from side to side. “Ah..” He hissed. “All things considered? Yes, I suppose one could say I’m holding up well enough..”

“Noticed the accent, huh? I’m from the States. New Orleans, specifically.”

“Ah, the States.. Tell me, was all the fuss worth it?”

Maria pushed his sweater off his shoulders and pulled it on. “Something is telling me that this walk to the prefects’ bathroom is going to end up with you streaking.” She ducked behind him, giving his bum a playful slap.

Lysander laughed, jumping slightly from the unexpected slap, and shrugged nonchalantly. “I only have a few days left anyway. Might as well make some lasting impressions.”

“Do you…I don’t know, want me to go into details, I guess…?”

“Well, don’t tell me about her.” Lysander made a face. “I couldn’t care less what she has to offer. I just want to know how you feel. Personally, I feel like it’s been a long time coming.”
