Hmm, I think you’re referring to like the type of coatings that give an illusion of a polarizad lens?? Sort of like those cars that from the outside look completely tinted, but inside, they aren’t as dark.

In my personal headcanon prescription, he doesn’t have anything that requires him to wear glasses.

^this is a nothing burger of a prescription 🙍‍♀️🙍‍♀️ he basically has 20/20 vision (deadass if I had a patient come in for an eye exam, and they had this prescription, I would tell them to not bother spending on glasses since there won’t be much of a difference). So I don’t think he’ll personally use prescription glasses with this, BUT!!! He could definitely use a new type of advanced transition lens without it!!!! [if you headcanon Dr. McCormick having a higher prescription than the one I gave him, and he has a diagnosed presbyopia— maybe a progressive lens with transitions will work. Or, if you want him to forever have sunglasses on, progressive glasses with polarized lenses is the way to go! People over the age of 45 tend to get diagnosed with presbyopia :,)]

Hi. I came to talk about my headcanons regarding the South Park boy’s vision and prescription because of this post I was mentioned on. Ive been working on optical care for like?? 4 years??? So those are my credentials. Nobody but one person asked for this, but I’m gonna share it anyway.

Stan Marsh

OD:  [SPH] Plano  [CYL] -1.00  [AXIS] 14 OS:  [SPH] Plano  [CYL] -1.75  [AXIS] 172 Diagnosis: Astigmatism, Single Vision Distance Recommendations: Polycarbonate, Anti-Reflective

Personally, I feel like Stan would have pretty bad astigmatism more than a bad spherical. Glasses are recommended to use, especially at night time because the lights will be flared up and be more visibly blurry. Anti-reflective is highly recommended because it will reduce those glares at night. I feel like Stan won’t really care, maybe not notice those glares (especially at a young age) until more into his teenage years when he learns how to drive. Maybe for his first pair of glasses, he’d probably get a lens material of CR39 rather than polycarbonate, but later in his teenage/adult life, he’ll highly invest in polycarbonate lenses and AR. Because of that neglected care, his astigmatism can worsen from strain. And if he drives, glasses are going to be highly required for his and others safety. I think he will try out contacts, but I feel like it’s not going to work as well as he hoped for. Astigmatism is more prominent at night, so he can use his contacts perfectly in the day, but at nighttime, it will be full on glasses. He could get contacts with a toric prescription, but without that AR, it’s just not going to be as crystal clear at night (like there will still be a slight shift or blurriness). At an older age, possibly around 45-50, when he gets diagnosed with presbyopia, I don’t think his reading prescriptions will be as bad. He will most likely get either a spare of SVR glasses or purely full time progressive glasses. 

Kyle Broflovski

OD:  [SPH] +0.50 OS:  [SPH] +1.00 Diagnosis: Hyperopia, Single Vision Reading, Specialty RX Recommendations: Polycarbonate, Blue Light Filter

Kyle will basically have to use his glasses for up close/reading. Because he’s going to be using it for computer as well, blue light filter will help with his circadian rhythm, headaches, dry eyes, and eye strain. I put a specialty RX because his prescription isn’t as bad to be full time wear, but it’s also not too low that will still be blurry when he reads more up close.  It’s a balance for when he’s on the computer than when reading with a book. He’s most likely getting his first glasses at a young age so his vision won’t be as effected drastically in the long run. I feel like he’d be diagnosed with presbyopia around his 40s, but won’t be full-time wear until his 50s. Older Kyle will be a full time wearer with progressive lenses (without the line). I think he will develop some slight astigmatism (maybe around -0.25), so he’s getting AR for that full-time wear era. But he’ll definitely have the widest reading window and fancy ass coatings like AR Plus and Xtra active transitions or wtv☠️ which can range to a total price of $600-$1000 (if he has a really good insurance, it can cover most of it, but majority of progressives with insurance still range from $50-$250) depending on the amount of coatings and the frame he chooses. If he does get into contacts, it will be at an older age with a multifocal prescription. Or, he can do mono vision (which is where one contact is for close-up and the other is for far. But since his prescription isn’t for far, it will only be one contact for reading).

Eric Cartman

OD:  [SPH] -7.75  [CYL] -3.75  [AXIS] 54 OS:  [SPH] -6.25   [CYL] -2.50  [AXIS] 20 Diagnosis: Myopia, Astigmatism, Single Vision Distance Recommendations: High-Index, Aspheric Lens, Anti-Reflective, Blue Light Filter 

The worst prescription compared to the main 4 ☠️☠️🙏. (I know the Succubus episode made it for him to have Kenny’s eyes.. but let’s ignore that cuz realistically… no.) For one, his prescription is so high, he’ll definitely need to invest into some high-Index or aspheric lens because those bitches will come out thick as fuck with poly or CR39. The thing is, kids aren’t allowed to have a high index lens because it’s so fragile. Polycarbonate lenses are required to be put on kids lenses for their durability and safety. With that being said… polycarbonate is only 22% thinner than CR39, but it won’t be as thin as a high-index. So… the lenses are definitely going to be popping out of his glasses and he’ll look a bit goofy in them🤥🤥. He’ll be able to have a high-index with aspheric lenses around 14-16 years old, which will help thin them out, it will also be less noticeable if he gets a metal frame since those make high prescription lenses pop out. AR should be put on his glasses to help with his high astigmatism. Since this is a full-time wear prescription, blue light is highly recommended since he’ll be on his phone, computer, and tv while wearing them. I don’t think young Cartman would want to wear glasses at all, so this can highly affect his already horrible prescription. Older Cartman will definitely invest into progressive glasses (since he probably thinks bifocals will make him look old), AR is obviously required, maybe get a decent sized reading window (since his prescription is high-index, many opticals only offers wide windows for that lens material). I think he’d get some transition lenses, or maybe purchase polarized sunglasses that have his progressive prescription on them since the transition can get kind of annoying. Contacts will have to be tailored made and they’re very expensive. Most likely, he won’t be able to wear them (I don’t even think he’ll be able to put them in), but he’ll probably try them. It won’t be as clear as the glasses, it’s also way too much money, and they would take a long ass time for them to arrive… not worth it for his (impatient) personality. Perhaps lasik will be a consideration, but given his post covid design has glasses, I don’t think he’ll invest in it. I just feel like his prescription could worsen if he doesn’t get his shit together and just starts wearing those damn glasses early on. 

Kenny McCormick 

OD:  [SPH] -0.25 OS:  [SPH] Plano Diagnosis: Myopia Recommendations: Blue Light 

The best as it can get. I’ve never seen a perfect prescription in my time working in optical, so I gave Kenny something realistic: Plano on left eye, tiny blur on right (barely noticeable). It’s realistic. Blue light is only recommended for when he’s on his phone or TV. Even without a prescription, blue light filter glasses are always recommended to protect your eyesight. Older Kenny will probably not have much of a prescription either. Perhaps his reading vision could become a bit blurry, but not to the point of needing glasses. I know post covid Kenny wears sunglasses, but that’s even more proof that his prescription doesn’t worsen because why the hell will he be wearing polarized or tinted glasses indoors if his vision is blurry 🙎‍♀️🙎‍♀️ ?? (wish I had this kinda prescription)

Butters Stotch

OD:  [SPH] -0.50 OS:  [SPH] -11.50   [CYL] -0.75  [AXIS] 180 Diagnosis: Myopia, Astigmatism, Specialty RX Recommendations: High-Index, Anti-Reflective, Aspheric lens, (Possible Prism Lens)

I don’t think his prescription was really that bad until he got that ninja star thrown into his left eye (RIP). There are many things that can make his eye get worse or better depending on the treatment and diagnosis from the ophthalmologist. So— I’m just going to give you my personal headcanon (feel free to tell me your preferences so I can give you an accurate description/answer for your own preferred headcanon!). Personally, I don’t think the ninja star damaged his cornea too much that caused complete blindness. I think it maybe perhaps caused scarring or trauma that could cause his vision to worsen and get a bit of cloudiness. If treated properly, this wouldn’t be that big of an issue and can get properly healed! But.. Butters doesn’t have that kinda luxury </3. Therefore, his vision would probably get affected to the point his vision and astigmatism will worsen. Because of this, dryness and strain in the eye is probable, and eyedrops are highly required to not cause further irritation. Sometimes when a prescription is more intense than the other eye, Butters would need a highly hydrating contact to not irritate his eye due to the dryness (but even so, he can only wear them less than 6 hours), so contacts will be a tricky thing. As for older Butters.. fogginess in the eye is usually due to cataracts, but since it’s mostly eye trauma that caused it, surgery or proper treatment from an ophthalmologist can help clear that cloudiness away. Realistically, I think Vic Chaos would have the kind of money to cure his eye and get the treatment to fully restore his eyesight, but it also depends on the diagnosis and severity of the injury. BUT— due to the severity of the VISION, something that can help the eyesight of that eye is recommended for use, especially to not worsen said prescription. [Self indulging for a bit, but instead of Professor Chaos covering that eye with an eyepatch, I’d like to think he has a gadget over the eye that can actually HELP make his vision clearer. Sort of like a prescription aspheric lens with an advanced AR coating to help enhance his peripheral and clarity. Why cover your unhealthy eye when you can just make it better??]. In the end, if he doesn’t end up wearing glasses, or a singular contact, Butters will DEFINITELY be carrying around eyedrops at ALL times for the dryness!!
