Ernest Frankenstein Stan Account

Ernest Frankenstein was forgotten by Mary Shelley in her 1823 novel Frankenstein, getting only a brief mention at the start. In later printings, he was allowed a secondary mention in the book, before getting forgotten again when it came to the deaths of every one of Victor’s loved ones by The Creature. This either means Ernest, being the middle child, was just forgotten by Victor when it came to his life story, or Victor just really hated Ernest. Either way, this means that logically, Ernest inherited everything from his brother. But does Robert Walton know this? Does Walton know a Frankenstein lives? When he writes his letter to his sister, does he ever find Ernest and tell him what happened to Victor? Does Ernest ever find out? Would he want to know and be able to live normally again? Would that change how Ernest lives his life, constantly wondering what happened to his family? From what he can tell through his knowledge, his older brother disappears in college, William was murdered, his servant and assumed friend was executed for it, family friend/brother’s BF Clearval was murdered, and wife to his brother Elizabeth turns up dead. It can then be assumed that Victor would be blamed for Elizabeth’s death, as Victorian wives don’t just show up strangled. Then Victor disappears without a word. What does Ernest think? How does he feel about everyone just dropping dead and Victor being the hubris riddled twink he is? He’s about 16 when Victor goes off to college and creates the creature, and 20 when the novel ends. That’s 4 years of just tragedy without any context. Needless to say, Ernest is the real victim of Frankenstein. At least the Creature was up to speed with what was going on. Ernest had no context to anything at all, and will never get any. He will die alone, never finding out what happened to the others. Or worse, the letter Walton writes to his sister somehow gets to him and he find out through that, dying with the knowledge of the tainted image of his older brother.
