I disappeared from the fandom for awhile, but it has always held a special place in my heart. It always will despite the much needed break I needed to explore a fandom that also holds a special place in my heart. Game of Thrones was introduced to me by my ex-boyfriend before my freshman year of college. I watched the first season and then read the books and it became our thing together. Then we broke up and I was devastated. Not only was I reeling from my break-up, my anxiety and depression were really making themselves known. A friend introduced me to tumblr and I suddenly found myself immersed in the Jonsa fandom as a way to help ease the pain and serve as an escape.

I was quietly in the back, reading, and secretly writing fic without ever really posting much until I met @sansapotter and @snowsinthenorth . They brought me out of my shell a little and slowly more people embraced me, but I never forgot the ones who helped me start putting fic back out there. (I wrote fic for all kinds of fandoms in high school and middle school that I posted on fanfiction.net before I started here.)

I love my girls and I can hardly believe we’ve been friends for five years. It seems like so much longer and yet not that long at all. They went all the way through nursing school with me and supported me through self-doubt and have read and edited so much for me.

This fandom has done so much and given so much to me. I really can’t thank it enough. It has brought some of the best people I know into my life.

@rumaan @thefairfleming @misssusanvance @alienor-woods @goodqueenalys and of course, my favorite beautiful land mermaids, @sansapotter and @snowsinthenorth . I know that no matter what or how long its been since a text has been sent through our group chat, that I can always text them and they will be there for me. To celebrate or comfort or mourn. I have truly been blessed by this fandom.

So thank you Game of Thrones. My life would not be what it is without you. Thank you. It’s been an amazing run.

In the same vein as @snowsinthenorth , my fandom journey began in late 2013 after I finished reading the books, I was at a particularly tough point with my mental health. I found a little nook in the fandom where people were shipping my two favorite characters, and it made me feel less alone. And soon I was comfortable enough to start writing.

The first thing I wrote was a Harry Potter AU. It was the first thing I’d published online in 10 years (thanks fanfiction.net). I felt comfortable enough to write a multi-chapter fic, that’s not to say I felt confident in my writing, but after seeing so many wonderful people saying fic is for fun, I had fun.

This fandom has given me so many things, I’m not leaving. But as @snowsinthenorth just said in the group chat we’ve had with @lydiamartenism since 2014 “it feels like the end of an era.” So here’s an appreciation post about this once very small space that made me feel like myself again.
