"No way. I don't believe you." Seungmin rolled his eyes, taking a sip of his coffee.
"I'm pretty sure it's all that studying. It's finally getting to his head." Jeongin added, smiling while he piled onto the teasing.
Jisung groaned, his cheeks already burning red, burying his head in his arms on the table. He's been trying to convince his friends that he really did talk to a famous boxer and got his number. "It happened, I promise! He threw his sweaty towel and everything!!"
"Ew." Seungmin cringed, his nose scrunching up in disgust. "Please don't tell me you kept it or something gross." "What?! No!! I-I mean, I washed it, but I kept the towel at least!"
"You have some issues, man." The youngest out of all of them commented, earning a chuckle from the coffee fanatic beside him. "Don't laugh, you cannot be laughing! You're just as much of a freak as freakbob over here!" He gestured to Jisung. "Hey!-"
"Oh really? And what issues may those be?" Seungmin set his coffee cup down, turning to face Jeongin. "Well, for one, your weird obsession with getting thrown around like a doll!" The boy in question paused, his face turning red. "That's- that's a completely normal obsession!"
"No it's not." Jisung and Jeongin said in unison, earning a scoff from Seungmin. "Whatever. What else you got?" Jisung cleared his throat. "Being thrown around, yes, but also being grabbed, choked, scolded-" "Okay, Ji, I get it!
People around the library shushed them, earning silent laughter from the two boys who weren't being yelled at. "You two are so annoying." Seungmin groaned, but there was no true bite behind his words.
"Sooo, back to your freaky boxer guy fantasy." Jeongin propped his head on his hand, smirking knowingly at Jisung, whose face was already turning red again. "It's not a fantasy!"
Just then, Felix and Hyunjin walked into the library, heading to their usual study table. "Lix! Thank god you're here — please tell these idiots that I really met Minho last night!"
The couple looked at each other, then smirked, taking a seat at the table. "I have no clue what you're talking about, Sungie."
Jisung groaned in frustration while everyone else laughed, earning more shushes from the people around them, and even the librarian. "There's a match tonight, why don't we all go?? Then you'll see that I'm not lying!"
Felix sighed, rolling his eyes, but he couldn't help the smile on his face. "Sure, Sungie, we can go." "I thought you had to study though?-" Hyunjin grunted as he was elbowed by his boyfriend, but Jisung was already thinking about it.
"Damn, I forgot! I can't go then, I really do need to study!" The other 4 groaned. "Come on, Ji, you're always studying! That test isn't for another month!" Jeongin complained, leaning back in his chair. "Yeah! Plus you're like, one of the smartest people we know." Seungmin added. "We? I'm pretty smart, I don't know about you guys."
Everyone stared at Hyunjin with knowing looks, earning a scoff from the boy, who put a hand over his chest. "Ouch! Hey, I'm smart! I got a 76 on my last test!"
"Which test was that, baby? The one back in elementary?" The group burst into laughter when Hyunjin's mouth fell open, shocked that Felix the sweetheart would say something like that to him. "I thought this was about Jisung! Why is everyone laughing at me??" Felix cooed, pulling Hyunjin into his chest and stroking his hair. "I'm just messing with you, Jinnie, I'm sure you're very smart."
"Is it opposite day or something?" Seungmin muttered under his breath, making Jisung and Jeongin laugh even harder. Hyunjin just glared at him while Felix's chest shook with his suppressed laughter. "Ha-ha, very funny, Seungmin." Hyunjin rolled his eyes, turning his attention back to Jisung.
"Anyways, like we were saying before that RUDE interruption," He gestured to Seungmin, who was already taking a sip of his coffee like he did no wrong. "We all want to go to that match tonight. And as it seems, your boyfriend gave us exclusive access."
Jisung groaned, pushing his glasses up his nose. "For the millionth time, he's not my boyfriend!" "Yet." Jeongin added, earning snickers across the table. Jisung huffed, standing up and grabbing his stuff, storming off.
"Worst friends ever!" At his playful snap, almost the entire library shushed him, but he clearly didn't care. "Oh, you shush!"
And so, the 5 of the boys ended up going to the match that night after all. Changbin saw Hyunjin walking towards the door and smiled, reaching for the door handle. "Welcome back, kids! Remember the rules, yes?" Hyunjin smirked. "Bin, you're only a year older than us." Felix followed Hyunjin inside, Jisung followed Felix, and the two youngest followed as well. Until they were stopped.
Changbin's hand grabbed Seungmin's arm, pulling both him and Jeongin back. "Whoa, hang on, who are you two??" Hyunjin, Felix, and Jisung all stopped, turning around. "They're with us, Bin! They're cool, no worries!" Changbin eyed Seungmin, who was squirming under his strong grip with a faint flush on his cheeks.
The bouncer let his eyes linger on the younger boy for a moment longer, then released him more gently than he'd grabbed him the first time. "Sorry about that, kid. Have fun in there, yeah?" Seungmin rubbed his arm, his face burning red while he avoided eye contact. "Will do, mister!" Jeongin spoke up from behind him, ushering the flustered boy inside with their friends.
Like the night before, the lights flashed, the crowd roared, and the speakers boomed with excitement as the 5 boys made their way to the barricade.
While waiting in the crowd, Jeongin heard some yelling behind him. He didn't think much of it, until it became closer and closer. "Rude!" "What a dick!" "Ugh!" Jeongin finally turned to see what the commotion was, being met face to face with a man in a blue suit. They bumped into each other, and the man dropped the things in his hands. "Aw, man!" The man groaned. "Sorry! Let me help you!"
Jeongin kneeled down to grab the man's things, reaching for a microphone, until his hand met another. "Sorry!" They both said as they looked up at each other, their eyes meeting. "I'm Chan.." The man in the blue suit mumbled suddenly. "Jeongin. Here's your...microphone..?" Chan laughed and took the electronic, helping Jeongin up. "Thank you, you're too kind. As much as I'd like to stay and chat, I'm in a bit of a rush." Jeongin nodded. "Of course! Please, go ahead." The younger boy stepped aside, allowing the suited man to walk past him. "Thank you again, Jeongin." Chan bowed, walking past him but looking over his shoulder to shout to him. "Wave at me in the crowd!" Jeongin tilted his head in confusion, watching the man walk away, feeling a tap on his shoulder.
"C'mon, Yennie, the match is starting!!" Jisung smiled, ushering the group to the barricades, front and center. The lights dimmed, just like before, and a main spotlight fell on the center of the ring. "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to The Ring!" The crowd cheered, and rather aggressively at that, like they'd been waiting for this exact moment.
"In this corner, wearing the black boxer trunks, weighing at 380 pounds, aiming for his 8th win of his career, it’s The Crusher!! " A big, tanned, muscular dude, already dripping with sweat, emerged from the shadows of the entrance, a harsh scowl on his face as he stepped into the ring. He punched his fists through his boxing gloves, grunting at the crowd that booed him along the way.
Chan smiled nervously at the larger man, stepping aside to let him do his thing. “And in this corner, wearing the dark green shorts, holding a streak of 10 consecutive victories throughout his career, going for his 6th win of the season, introducing Lee Minho!” The crowd cheered louder as the main attraction appeared, though they didn’t sound very…supportive. Minho eyed the crowd as he walked out towards the ring, spotting the one person he’d been expecting to see. “Hey, kid. Glad to see you here again. Stay out of the splash zone, yeah?” Minho reached for the hem of his shirt, pulling it up and over his head, handing it over to the nerdy boy with a wink. “You’ll need that tomorrow morning.”
Jisung’s mouth fell open in shock at this man’s blatant flirting, hearing the couple behind him laughing and snickering, while the two youngest were just as shocked as Jisung. “Holy shit, you weren’t kidding!” Seungmin finally spoke, watching the boxer head into the ring to confront his opponent.
“Before we get started, let’s give a warm welcome to our judges for the night!” The crowd cheered to a table near the ring, with two men and two women watching the two fighters closely. “Now, can I have both fighters in the center, please?” Chan called out away from the microphone, gathering Minho and The Crusher in the middle of the ring.
“Alright, gentlemen, I went over this with you both separately in the locker rooms, but let’s have a quick refresher. I expect a clean, professional fight, although this is illegal, underground boxing. You listen to my commands. If I say break, I expect a clean break. Step back during the break, no foul punches. Keep your punches up, no hitting below the belt, low blows, or behind the head.” Chan glanced at both men, patting them both on the backs. “Go ahead and touch gloves, then head back to your corners."
The two boxers bumped fists, before stepping back a few feet from the center. “On my mark!” The crowd cheered again, someone whistling, another clapping his or her hands. “Ready…set…start!”
The Crusher grunted while Minho just squinted his eyes, studying the bigger man’s moves. What Minho didn’t know was that the other man in the ring was known to seriously injure his opponents, whether he won or lost. Guess that explains why the crowd was so excited. Jisung and the others watched with wide eyes, eyes darting between Minho and The Crusher.
“Who’d think is gonna win?” Someone behind Jisung asked another guy next to him. “Oh, c’mon man, the big dude’s obviously gonna win! He’s gonna destroy that other guy!” Jisung chewed his bottom lip, locking eyes with Minho for only a split second, having hope that he’d win. “Come on, please..”
Minho saw the fear in the younger boy’s eyes, and it only fueled the fire burning in his chest. He focused his eyes back on his opponent, who was actually already throwing a punch his way. Minho jerked his head to the side to dodge, The Crusher’s knuckle barely grazing the other boxer’s cheekbone.
Minho threw his own punch, socking the bigger man right in the nose. He began to bleed, but not before his fist met Minho’s stomach. He coughed up blood, spitting it out onto the mat and straightening up. “Alright big guy, you wanna dance? Let’s fucking dance.”
It was a blur of fists meeting skin, blood splattering onto the heavy duty rubber, and cheers from the crowd around the ring. Jisung looked away whenever Minho got punched, the violence too much for someone like him. Yet he stayed. He didn’t know why, but he did, and he didn’t want to leave any time soon.
Towards the end of the match, the two men were a mess. Minho had a busted lip and a gash on his eyebrow, and The Crusher had a bloody, broken nose and a black eye. What no one expected was for Minho to swing his fist straight to the big man’s forehead. He fell back with a loud thud, shaking the entire ring. “Stop!” Chan called through the microphone. “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! Please give it up for Lee Minho!!” Chan held up the boxer’s wrist, and the crowd roared in applause.
When the crowd began to pour out, Jisung practically ran up to Minho, who was being treated by medical staff. “Are you okay?! Oh my gosh, that looks like it hurts really bad!” The younger boy gushed with concern, earning a laugh from the boxer in question. “I’m fine, kid, no worries. I’ve experienced a whole lot worse in my time.” While those two talked, Hyunjin and Felix were introducing Jeongin and Seungmin to the host and bouncer.
“Bin, this is Seungmin. He’s chill, promise.” Hyunjin said to Changbin, nudging the younger boy closer. Seungmin swallowed, intimidated by the man’s muscles, but looking…down at him..? He snickered at the height difference, easily taller than the older man by a few inches. “You’re kinda short. Hyunjin, are you sure he’s the bouncer?” Hyunjin’s and Felix’s eyes widened in surprise, as did Changbin’s, but his shock didn’t last long. “Hey, you better watch it, you brat.” The bouncer grabbed Seungmin’s collar, earning a cheeky smile from the younger. “Whoa, I was kidding!! Jeez, short people really do have a big temper.” The couple was officially laughing their asses off, while Jeongin stood there just watching the whole thing.
“Bin, i thought i told you not to harass the guests after hours!” A voice shouted from behind them, the group of 5 turning to see the host. Chan and Jeongin’s eyes met, the two smiling awkwardly at each other. “Hey, blue suit man with a mic! I didn’t expect you to be the host!” Jeongin smiled, turning around to fully face the older man. “Really? What, you thought i just come to an illegal boxing match wearing a full suit?” The two laughed, and Hyunjin turned around to introduce the youngest. “Ah, Chan! I see you’ve already met Jeongin.” Chan chuckled. “Yeah, we bumped into each other before the match started! A sweet kid, he is.” Jeongin smiled shyly, earning a laugh from both Hyunjin and Chan.
Everyone began to pool out in duos, Seungmin and Changbin, Jeongin and Chan, Felix and Hyunjin, and Minho and Jisung, making their way out to the parking lot like the day before. Jisung practically clung onto Minho, looking like a worried mother. “Are you sure you’re okay?? Your lip is still bleeding..” Minho sighed, attempting to hold back a smile, failing to do so. “Yes, I’m sure.” He leaned down closer to the smaller boy. “If you’re so worried, why don’t you clean up the blood for me? Hm?”
Jisung, being the oblivious little fuck he was, grabbed a tissue he’d snagged from one of the medics, pressing it to Minho’s top plush lip. Minho smiled, amused by the boy’s innocence. “Don’t smile! You’ll make the bleeding worse, dummy!” Minho laughed again, earning a pout from the other. “Aw, don’t pout, baby.” The boxer lifted his hand, first pushing the glasses further, brushing his callosed thumb against Jisung’s plump bottom lip, causing him to turn redder than Minho’s blood.
“Ewww!” “Get a room!” “In a public server??” “Bro..” “What on earth??” “Whoo, getting steamy!” Complaints mixed with cheers sounded from the 6 other boys, making Jisung hide his face in embarrassment. Minho just laughed. “Yeah, yeah, we’re disgusting!” Minho pulled the blushing boy along, following the crowd of other men. “Anyone need a ride? I have lots of room!” Chan offered. “Nah, I’m good, I take the city bus.” Changbin replied. “We can walk back to our dorms!” Hyunjin cut in, his arm around Felix’s waist while they walked. “Aw, you kids sure? It’s really no problem! As a matter of fact, I insist!” Chan offered again. “If you insist, then who are we to decline?” Felix added, smiling while they all began to walk to the eldest’s vehicle.
“Actually, I’ll take Jisung in my own car! You guys go ahead!” Minho called from behind him, lifting Jisung into his arms and sprinting off towards another section of the parking lot. “Sungie, curfew!!” Felix called after them, to which Jisung held a thumbs up while laughing. Seungmin shook his head with a sigh, continuing onward to Chan’s car. “He’ll be fine, he’s only in the hands of a famous underground boxer, what could go wrong?” Changbin followed after him. “Hey, you have some respect for Minho, brat.” Seungmin smirked. “And what if I don’t?” The younger ran off when the bouncer began to chase him, running all the way to the car while laughing.
“Do you think Sungie will be okay?” Felix looked up at Hyunjin, who melted at his boyfriend’s worried eyes. “He’ll be fine, angel, don’t worry. I trust Minho, and I’m sure Ji does too.” The taller smiled at the blonde boy, pulling him for a quick, but tender, side hug. “You have nothing to worry about, mate, Minho’s nothing but a big softie! He’d never hurt a fly!” Jeongin laughed beside him. “Him? The same guy who knocked out a 380 pound man? I don’t believe he’d never hurt a fly.” Chan chuckled a bit, shrugging his shoulders.
“Well, he should be fine anyway.”
