hotd fans’ obsession with the term Humiliation Ritual anytime the show depicts something they’re clearly too scared to just straight up say they find icky because it makes them uncomfortable (usually pertaining to sexual abuse)

this show makes some very silly choices and is so imperfect (understatement) so much of the time but then you get people like this and unfortunately i’m forced to step in and defend it because clearlyyyyyy you are not actually interested in the story that’s being told or the themes being explored if this is a constant complaint of yours #imo

this is probably a skill issue on my part but it is genuinely upsetting to see the v callous chorus of “ew ew yucky gross okay we GET IT this character has sexual trauma (that i will refuse to acknowledge as sexual trauma in my complaint and instead simply refer to as something like Mommy/Daddy Issues etc because it makes me seem less evil)!!!! let’s move on!!” every time the show slightly deviates from what is deemed an Acceptable form of trauma response

isn't it bizarre that people and animals have to match precise genetic markers for organ donation and take immunosuppressive medication for the rest of their life or else the body will reject it, yet you can pull all sorts of Frankenstein nonsense on plants and it will work so long as they're roughly in the same family

The best part of Dune is when Kynes, the ecologist, tells the Fremen that they can establish a water cycle and bring standing freshwater back to Arrakis with judicious planting of melons and the Fremen are like, "That sounds so awesome, how long will that take?" and Kynes says, "Oh, 500 years or so, lol" but the Fremen are really excited and Kynes gets a glimpse at what can be achieved at the intersection of ecology and religion. He realises that the Fremen's fake religion was engineered to maximise spice production and that the same is true for Arrakis' ecology: sandworms die in water so the Guild wrecked the water cycle so sandworms could produce spice across the whole planet. Kynes feels bad for the Fremen, so he figures out the sandworm life cycle and behavioural ecology (knowledge integral to the industry of the entire Universe) just so he can shave off a hundred and fifty years off his predicted timeline, and the Fremen basically make him a saint and start managing Arrakis to be more comfortable for them AND provide territory for worms to produce enough spice pay off the Spacing Guild, which is really the ideal scenario for everyone concerned, but then that inbred Jedi, Paul Atreides, shows up and ruins everything forever.

pre arrakis paul atreides is such a freak, he spends his days in that stone cold castle, his mother teaches him the weird ways of ultimate body control and observation owl-witch style, his hot swordmaster shows him how to play with knives, his war-worn troubadour shows him the ways of life through songs and proverbs, his fathers master assassin is teaching him to become a human computer, he has mildly premonitory feverdreams that haunt his every night. he is obsessed with dune. he is a poorly socialized little freak.
