newbie lifter

Okay so after a week of talking to my friend and a bit of “convincing” this is what I managed to find out about employee policies:

Cameras are not actively watched unless the manager is just super bored - if there’s a manager on the floor you’re good to go. He also said something about the cameras not being a full streaming device but “pictures in 15 second intervals”??? IDK - assume you’re always on camera.

If there’s evidence something has been stolen (open package, clearly missing from display) they will check the cameras and identify who that person is. If it’s a regular they will try to remember to question them about it the next time they come in. If you’re caught on camera concealing more than once, a picture of you is printed out and hung up in the break room. BLIND SPOTS PEOPLE.

The most stolen items: electronic toothbrushes, crackers (wtflol), formula, laundry detergent, and pregnancy tests.

They also use a ton of codes to speak to other employees without alerting other customers - he said depending on the store some of these could differ.

IC3 - (literally I See Three) when there’s 3 or more people waiting to checkout with only one open register they use this code to call another cashier  6 - someone needs to cover the register because the employee needs a bathroom break or is about to go on break 10 - something with the restroom (if they need to be unlocked/cleaned for a customer) 20 - voided sale at a register (needs manager for key) 30 - return  (needs manager for key)  40 - change needed at a register (no customer is waiting) 44 - register pickup (I think this means when someone ordered something through site-to-store pickup) 45 - alcohol - manager needs to come to checkout because current cashier is too young to sell alcohol 50 - change needed (customer is waiting for their change) 60 - too much cash in the register 66 - manager needs to open safe for armored trucks 99 - AWARE OF SHOPLIFTER IN STORE AND MANAGERS ARE PREPARING TO TAKE ACTION - if you hear this get the fuck out because they’re coming after you Red zone - cosmetics (Code 99 in red zone) Gold zone - electronics (Code 30 in gold zone) Code BLACK - Suspicious customer/activity. They will normally say “Code Black in Aisle 5″ if you hear this check where you are - if you happen to be where they called out DON’T PANIC! They don’t have evidence of you concealing - just being suspicious. He said this is used a lot to keep an eye out on groups of kids.  Code ADAM - missing child, stop concealing bc it’s policy that every employee must immediately stop what they’re doing and look for said child.

I worked at Starbucks for… too long… multiple years. I haven’t worked there in about 2 years so things may have changed since, but from the looks of it they’ve gotten more lax since I left. But here’s how things were when I was there.

We were never trained on anything regarding loss prevention or theft. The training book has some stuff on what to do if there’s an armed robbery, but that’s it. So we weren’t taught to be on the lookout for small theft or lifters. 

If the manager had a clipboard there’s a 99% chance she was just checking off daily tasks, which include checking the temperature of all the fridges and such, or looking over staffing for the day. Inventory counts of everything in the store are done once a month, and they were a huge pain in the ass. We had to schedule someone for an 8 hour shift just to do inventory, because there are just so many little things to count. For that reason it’s not a red flag if a handful of things are missing. They expect a few miscounts. I wouldn’t worry about them noticing things going missing unless you’re taking like 20 of the same thing. 

We only had cameras in our store over the registers and behind the counter where the baristas are working. It was entirely to monitor the employees, never once in the years I worked there did we rewind the security tapes. They were displayed on a monitor in the back room, but they were literally never watched.

I would suggest going to a bigger store when it’s busy. If we’re slammed with a line, I guarantee the last thing I’m looking for is people taking tumblers or snacks or coffee beans. Most stores are horribly understaffed, and we were always busy trying to make sure everything was getting done around the store and customers were getting their drinks. If I were you, I’d order a drink and pick it up (could just be a cheap tea or something), and then go look at tumblers or mugs or whatever you want. Take what you want to a table and sit for a bit. Then just walk out. Put what you want in your bag, or just carry it out. Baristas switch between cashier and making drinks/other duties pretty often, so they’ll probably just assume someone else rang you up if they even notice. Most of us didn’t give a flying fuck though. Retail stuff, like tumblers and coffee beans, is such a tiny part of Starbucks profit so it’s really not prioritized.

right so im definitely going to take a break from lyfting but I’ve still got a few hauls to post but I’ll tell you what happened and what to learn from it

so first off i was wearing a backpack bc i had been staying over somewhere for the night and i thought I’d go into town on my way home

so in a nameless makeup store that has no cameras or towers but is very small, i liked this small makeup palette so i swatched it and decided that i didn’t really like the shades but for some reason i thought I’d take it anyway

i was super tired so i was v lazy and just took it round a counter, put a bigger palette on top and and dropped the palette into my shopping bag from a different store. i didn’t check if any customers were looking and my back was too the glass front of the store so :/

i put the big palette back and just walked out (extremely suspicious), i then walked into a different store that I’ve never lifted from before but just like browsing in but it’s still in the same shopping centre.

basically I was in the store for 5ish minutes and then the sa from the store and two security guards come in and the lady comes up to me and says

“I’m from ____, we were told that you took a eyeshadow palette that you didn’t pay for, can you come with us?”

now, ngl I was a bit shook but I had better things to do than get a fine for a £16 palette

So I say, “I’m sorry I don’t know what you’re talking about”

She replies, “well we have an eyeshadow palette missing”

“What’s that got to do with me?”

“You were the last person seen holding it”

“I put it down somewhere, im sorry I can’t quite remember where I put it down tho”

“Well it’s not in the store”

“Okay…I put it down somewhere in the store?”

Then one of the security guys realises this isn’t going anywhere so asks if she can look in my backpack, I know I have nothing expect my clothes from the day before so I say yes and show her my bag and obviously the palette isn’t in there.

The sa apologises profusely and i say it’s fine etc… then they walk out of the store

So…it was pretty stressful but it taught me a few things:

•back packs are suspicious so don’t use one !

•just don’t go lyfting if you’re tired

•don’t get complacent and think you’ll get away with it every time, this is the first time this has ever happened to me and I’ve been doing this for a year. always be vigilant

•doesn’t matter if the sa doesn’t see you, self righteous customers will report you bc they’re losers :(

•just because you’re out of the store doesn’t mean you’re safe, you can get followed out of a store

•lp and sa’s CANNOT look in a shopping bag from another store, or search you

•don’t think bc it’s a low value item that they won’t care, this palette was less than £16 and they were willing to get two lp after me….

•do not admit to being guilty !!! There’s nothing they can do if you say you didn’t do it, I’m sure you can refuse to have your bag searched but please body pack or have it in a shopping bag

So I’ve gotten a few messages about beginner friendly or just easy to lift from stores, so here’s my list of stores that I find to be easy. Please keep in mind that you should always be cautious and trust your gut, every store location is different with different camera locations and has different employees! You should still scope for cameras and use caution as you would in a harder store. Hope this post helps!

1. Payless Shoe Source. I’ve been to a handful of Payless locations in 2 different cities and have never had an issue getting shoes from here! Only one location out of 4 or 5 that I’ve lifted from used tags, but they can easily be removed with a magnet in a blind spot. I’ve noticed that some stores only have cameras over the register, while some stores have cameras in random aisles (in this case just take the pair you want and conceal in an aisle with no cameras). Be sure to fill the empty box you leave behind with a random shoe from a different pair and walk out with your new shoes! 

 2. Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Craft Stores. I hit Michael’s or Hobby Lobby all the time and have never had any sort of issue in these stores. Neither of them use RFID’s or any other sort of tag, but you should still double check packaging just to be sure. Cameras are typically in jewelry/bead aisles, sticker aisles, etc. so avoid concealing in those. Take your items and conceal in a blind spot, usually Michael’s and Hobby Lobby have plenty of aisles with no cameras hovering above. These stores also usually have no chase policies and are generally easy to lift from. 

3. Office Depot, Staples, Office Max, any office supply store. I haven’t paid for school supplies in years. The stationery aisles usually have no cameras whatsoever, all of the cameras are usually covering the more expensive items like laptops/electronics, printer ink, etc. The stationery is a free for all! I’ve even lifted headphones from these stores, just take it and conceal in any of the many blind spots. (Office supply stores are easy AF, but you should still check the store for camera locations and watch out for employees/other customers). They also have no chase policies. Enjoy your pens, pencils, sticky notes, notebooks, etc.!

4. Barnes and Noble. (Make sure your store has two stories!!) My game plan for B&N is always the same. The first floor usually has cameras everywhere, but the second floor has plenty of blind spots. This is the only store where backpacks aren’t extremely sus to wear! Dress academic-looking (does that make sense?), I often carry my school bag and have never had an issue! Wander around the first floor, look through books, carry the ones you are interested in, make your way to the second floor, pick up more books, then find a spot to sit on the second floor!!! My B&N has chairs scattered throughout, but if those are occupied I just sit on the floor in between bookshelves and pretend that I’m reading!! My second floor only has cameras above the comic book section. I usually sit in the religious or self help book sections because those aisles have less traffic. I stack my books next to me and keep my backpack on the other side, then decide which books I want and which ones I’ll put back, then flip through every single page of the books I want to lift. B&N often sticks RFID’s on random pages so this step is a must! Act like you’re actually reading if someone comes by, don’t just flip through the pages quickly or that will be sus! When you’re done, unzip your backpack quietly and stick the books in there. Take the pile of books that you don’t want and put them back, look around some more, then walk out. 

5. Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Drugstores. (This is not including Walmart or Target, I’m only talking about single standing stores like the ones listed!) Walgreens usually has cameras above the makeup sections, but cameras are not actively monitored and I believe they have a no chase policy! I used to lift makeup from here when I first started years ago and was a little sloppy but never got caught. The Rite Aids and CVS in my area don’t have cameras above beauty, so it is a makeup buffet! Watch out for RFID stickers as some stores use them to deter shoplifting. They are easily peeled off and most of the alarms don’t work even if you do beep (but peel them off just to be safe). 

6. Bath and Body Works. B&BW are even easier on days where they aren’t too busy. I try to avoid holidays or huge sales because the store will be crowded, which means you have to be extremely careful of someone seeing you conceal. Busy days also mean more employees on shift! Bath and Body Works have no cameras so take what you want and conceal behind a display. Be quick when concealing and pretend to be interested in shopping, looking and smelling the items. Don’t stay in the same spot for too long, conceal and go the the next display. The only thing you really have to look out for here is other people, as there are no tags on their items either! 

7. Bed Bath and Beyond. Bed Bath and Beyond sells a variety of items, and cameras are usually scattered covering the expensive household items, but leave tons of areas with no camera coverage. Some BBB’s have a beauty section with only one camera covering makeup, which is extremely easy to avoid/find a blind spot! If your BBB doesn’t have beauty/cosmetic aisles, they still have other stuff useful of lifting. I like lifting yankee candles from here, as well as kitchen utensils. Just check for soft tags which can be peeled off! I am also almost positive Bed Bath and Beyond’s have a no chase policy. 

8. World Market. Cameras are usually over jewelry and furniture, with a few scattered throughout. It is extremely easy to find blind spots here, either by concealing behind displays or shelves, or finding aisles without cameras. I lift decorative household items, soap/lotion/candles, tasty snack items from around the world, jewelry, and alcohol from here. These stores are pretty relaxed and have blind spots everywhere! Also have a no chase policy. 

9. The Body Shop/Lush. These stores are easy to lift from due to their lack of cameras (they literally don’t have any), so you just have to watch out for employees! The Body Shop is usually a very small store so I would recommend having a partner to act as a shield to conceal behind. You don’t have to worry about tags or cameras in either store, so be very cautious of the SA and other customers! Not sure about The Body Shop’s chase policy, but Lush is no chase!

10. Sally’s Beauty Supply. Also no cameras here, but they do have mirrored ceilings and mirrors in corners of the store. I have found that the employees here give zero fucks and I have never seen them even glance at the mirrors to keep an eye on the customers. Think of them as more of a scare tactic, but still be cautious! The stores I’ve been to don’t tag and are very easy to hit as long as you stay cautious of other people/ SA’s. Great place to lift fake lashes, polish, hair care, and hair tools if your bag is big enough to hold them! Best time is right when they open or before closing, as there is usually only one SA and they will be occupied and not paying close attention!

So fun fact I work at cv$ and boy lemme tell ya. You do things right and you could take half the store. So here are some tips I can tell you from working there a year and a half 

*** please note that of course this varies by location and states in regards to lp and laws about chasing and who can lay hands on you. And every store has a different amount of cameras and a different layout. It would be in your best interest to go to a store in a “"nice”“ neighborhood

LP🚨🚨

- as far as lp goes, there’s almost never anybody in the store from lp or corporate unless of course it’s predictably busy. My particular store is near a stadium so when they were going to the championships, we had lp and police stationed inside the store to stop ppl from walking out with beer. 

- if there is lp, they will be plain clothes

-cameras are not monitored unless you’re being sus, but even then it’s more likely that the manager will follow you around

- we have a no chase policy but I’ve literally seen some manager ignore this and go after them in the parking lot. They also technically cannot touch you but I’ve seen this rule broken before. But I’ve also seen a guy get stopped for beeping at the door and my manager literally see two champagne bottles in his backpack, but bc he didn’t see him conceal them, he had to let him go lol.

-in my state, it’s actually legal for managers to physically stop theft from happening, but it’s against company policy. Again, this doesn’t stop some of them.

-if you wanna return something without a recipe, we scan ids. If you paid with debit, we give cash back. Ppl return expensive medicine and vitamins all the time with receipts from the garbage and merch from another store that they lifted, and we just have to give them the return. You can get a lot of money this way, just don’t do it to frequently.

SHIFTS/best times🌞🌚

- i work in a 24 hour store, so the shifts for a store like that would be something like 2 manager in the morning, along with 3 sa’s, around 7am- 3:30/4pm. Then on week days, unless it’s expected to be busy for holidays or games, another manager comes in at 3:30/4-11/12 with 2 sa’s, one leaving about 7:30-9pm. Then it’s just one sa and one manager until the night crew comes. On weekends  There’s always two manager so and 2 sa’s before 9pm. 

-the night crews are usually facing, putting up tags or shipment. This varies by store but I would not recommend going at these times bc they are bored and pay extra close attention to ppl. It’s so so sus to go at these times for anything other than wine or beer.

- on shipment days, which where I’m at is 2 times a week, is fridays and tuesdays. The truck could come anywhere between 11am to 7pm. On these days, there is obvi more staff on the floor, but the night crew handles the majority of the unloading. Still Be careful bc the truck could come early and the managers will put it up in that case. There are also more sas these days. I’d say find out the days near you by asking something like “"you’re out of this when will you get more”

- basically if you notice only one or two sa’s, And don’t see a manager around, you’re probably good to go find a blind spot. 

BLIND SPOTS/TAGS👻👻🤖

- avoid pharmacy, cosmetics, liquor, allergy and electronics. Obvi this varies by store but the best places I’ve noticed to conceal is grocery, unless it’s by the door like the one in my store, cards, hair brushes, and seasonal. Just do not let anyone see you and you’ll be good. Remember that cameras are probably not monitored, but act like they are.

-rdif tags are on some cosmetics, nails, all alcohol(along with those cylindrical tops you need a magnet to get off), expensive types of vitamins and medicines, and batteries. But sometimes the towers are old and shitty like in my current store so if you conceal it under a few lays in a bag or on your person you might not even set them off. The liquor tops will always go off tho.

- if you beep, just keep walking. I know everyone says this but for real. Don’t stop. If we don’t see you conceal it, there’s nothing we can do.

-dress normally, be kind and be quick.

- DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BRING A LARGE BAG OR BACKPACK INTO THE STORE UNLESS ITS FOLDED UP IN YOUR CART/BASKET. This is an automatic red flag for us to keep an eye on you. You’re better off concealin on your body or in the restrooms. If the store has a minute clinic, then they also have a restroom. The ‘take two and put on back’ method is probably the best way to go about things.

✨✨FINALLY✨✨

- cameras are intimidating, but almost never monitored

- if you beep, keep walking

- As long as nobody sees you, and you don’t conceal on camera ( which I know sounds like genaric advice but avoiding sa’s is not hard at all bc we have to stay up at the front anyway) you can literally get away with so much.

-we do have pictures in the back of people involved in organized retail crime, but thats it. They pretty much stay there forever.

All in all, just be safe, use common sense and you’ll be sittin’ pretty. Of all the people we’ve caught in our store lifting, the one mistake they all made was concealing in front of someone. Not even on camera. If someone sees you, it’s over, just dump and go. Say you forgot the your card or something, ppl do that all the time. Again I work a 24/7 store so I can’t speak for stores that close or more suburban stores.

-you will likely find the books you need at other bookstores nearby too. barnes & noble usually carries common textbools for local schools. i have a barnes & noble tag if you need tips for them :)

-the bookstore i use only has cameras in the textbook section. if you manage to sneak it out of the textbook section, or find the same book anywhere else in the store (really easy if it’s, for example, an english class), you can put it in your bag just about anywhere.

-the bookstore i use also has a place to sit and read. if you take the books to that spot and sit around reading for ~30 minutes, it’s easy to just put the books in your bag and pretend they were yours to begin with. cafes in bookstores are great for this.

-the rfid trick light-lifting explained is good shit. you would be surprised which stores don’t have towers. if your store does, though, you can use the trick above and just look like you’re browsing through the book while you’re actually looking for rfids. if you see one, peel it off.

-if your store has towers, walk through them just as someone else is leaving too. they won’t know which one of you had shit if the towers go off, and you can just keep walking.

A friend of mine through an old community was recently arrested at K0hls. She beeped, and LP confronted her and she was wearing heels and couldn’t run. She was approached based on the beep, but LP was very close to the door when it happened so make of that what you will. 

She had a ton of shit in her purse and in a shopping bag, including clothing, expensive headphones, jewelry, and more. She still has no clue why she beeped since she checked thoroughly for tags in a fitting room and used a magnet, but is reasonably sure it wasn’t via a magnet detector. We’re talking about a very very experienced lfter here who felt comfortable in this particular store. 

The police showed up very quickly, as in while they were leading her to a back room, and she was arrested. Literally they took her in a police car to the station, booked her, took a mugshot, put her in jail, the whole nine yards. She was not strip searched. She was over the felony limit for her state, plus they found her tools, and she admitted she had taken some things, but not everything they found, and denied it was premeditated. She now regrets saying anything at all, and wishes she’d asked for a lawyer. 

They took her purse and got a warrant for her phone. She had to give them her passcode. This is something I’d heard rumors about the police doing but this is the first person I know who that happened to. She was bailed out the same day by her husband, who did not know she lfts and is not happy right now, but they did not let her take her phone home. She knows she is in deep, deep shit as she was boosting shit over several different apps on her phone and had used the phone to text with partners, but not on the day she was caught or for some time prior. When her husband picked her up he was not questioned, but a cop mentioned to him that if he was involved he should confess because they have her phone and will find out who she was working with. 

They did not get a warrant for her home or car as far as she knows; her car was still in the K0hls parking lot when she got out that night, with lfted stuff from another store in the trunk. Her husband told her to pack a bag of anything that she had taken recently which he is hiding with a relative just in case. She has lfted from K0hls before and is now worried about them checking tapes and getting her on more. She may be facing jail time just on what she was charged with already, and charges may be added depending on what they find on her phone. She may have put people she cares about in harms way, including a member of her family, because they texted her about lfting. She has hired a lawyer, and it’s not cheap, and has had to seek medical attention for severe anxiety that has made her unable to eat without getting sick or sleep a full night. 

From what she told me, I have learned a few lessons:

1. Don’t wear heels if you can’t run in heels.

2. Tags may be hidden in very covert places. I wish I could tell you what got her caught, but she still doesn’t know and is very, very surprised it happened. Her only guess is a bottle of perfume that was somewhat pricey. She had removed a tag stuck to the bottom of the box but wonders if perhaps there was a second tag inside the box that she missed.

3. Know the law, and know how much trouble you’d be in if you got caught each time. If it’s serious, refuse to talk and demand to see a lawyer. The expense is worth it if you’re fucked either way. Also make sure you do not consent to any searches. 

4. Be very careful about what’s on your phone. This is something I’d heard about in the past but just to be safe I’ve cleaned out my conversations on a few texting apps and deleted some photos. I’ve always used codewords for most conversations and now those are the only ones that could be found. 

5. A lot of liftblr caught stories, as well as caught stories on other sites, seem to center around K0hls. I have never fucked with K0hls because honestly there wasn’t much at mine I particularly wanted. My friend was very, very comfortable with hers and is shocked this is the place she ended up getting caught. Don’t fall into the trap of “but mine is easy” when you’re talking about a chain that is known for having good LP. Yours may have been easy when you started, but they could easily have stepped up their game. Be very vigilant every single time and try to avoid the felony total in any one trip. This situation would be significantly less dire if she had taken two trips instead of taking so much in one. She is also wondering if perhaps they had suspected her of lfting there for some time but simply did not feel comfortable catching her until the beep gave them a reason to confront her. 

6. We have been communicating through a very secure app on her ipad that does not log conversations since this happened. I don’t want to reveal any more about it right now but suggest those of you who like to stay in touch do your research about what technology you decide to use and maybe don’t use your phone if you bring that with you when you lft. I have always been very secure about my communications except for those where I chose to use code words. 

To be absolutely safe wipe your phone of any evidence before you go lifting. Log offf tumblr, delete any lifting texts after they’re sent and received. MAKE IT A HABIT. You don’t want to be caught with shit like that in your phone.

Always stay cautious don’t ever be too comfortable in a store. Never take more than the felony amount from a store at a time. Make multiple trips if you want it’s better to be cautious.

idk if someone has already done this, but I keep seeing people getting mad for newbish mistakes so i want to make a nicer list

1. Dont tag your posts! it opens our world to the anti world and after that its easy to influrtrate.

2. dont reblog anything not liftbr related! someone who’s feeling snitchy might see your reblog and attack

3. turn off your followers on your page, likes optional. it exposes us again

4. use a VPN to hide your location! for phone I reccomend opera VPN and for the computer I reccomend cyberghost

5. delete EXIF data. your photos store things like location on every photo, and you dont wanna get doxxed

6. everyone’s different, but i don’t trust any post with 500+ notes and is at least 2 years old if its lifting tips unless its something timeless (like this list)

7. bar codes dont set off alarms! but always check for RFIDS. it can look different depending on the tag, and there’s a post that explains every tag, but try to find a strange pattern hidden in paper tags, bar code stickers, and other sus items by holding it to light. I always use a seam ripper and rip through them

8. always scope out stores. go one day to look for cameras and blind spots. dont be too obvious so lp doesn’t remember you

9. you dont need $700 hauls right now!! dont risk your future for internet brownie points!! lift from the dollar store, take a chapstick from Walmart, pleeeeasee dont risk your life!!!

10. dont steal from small stores! mom and pop stores, convention booths, anything owned by someone who would miss a $25 shirt

11. trust your gut! if you feel even a bit uneasy, like you think maybe lp is following you, DROP EVERYTHING AND RUN
