Waiting in the Garden

wait……thinking about little twelve year old annabeth blushing and “hyperventilating” around luke... we know she lost the dgaf war ages ago but like. that’s so funny. and i know that’s her in her little puppy love crush phase or whatever but now i’m just imagining annabeth reacting the same way around percy and he’s so baffled by it. he’s used to “cool girl” annabeth who gets shit done and is rather blunt with him and has her moments of vulnerability around him but she’s always somewhat composed through it all. and now suddenly she can’t meet his eye and her cheeks are so red and he’s absolutely lost abt it LMAO

by god i miss the early days of the pjoverse where the big three kids weren't meant to exist because they were too powerful and dangerous. the other kids at camp had skills but not powers—apollo kids could sing and shoot, hermes kids were fast, hephaestus kids were good at metalworking, etc. really only the demeter kids had powers in helping the strawberry plants grow quicker and healthier. but like will had to sing a hymn to apollo and call on his father's power to heal annabeth's arm and it wasn't even completely healed. etc. but children of the big three were terrifying. so terrifying that the big three themselves believed they shouldn't be allowed to have them anymore.

anyways i don't think we talk enough about the fact that percy was like. genuinely Supposed to Die. like the titan war Great Prophecy was pretty damn clear. "hero's soul cursed blade shall reap. see the world in endless sleep. a single choice shall end his days." etc etc etc. i swear to god death was implied every other word and that boy just??? skirted past it??? he saw a blue string (blue has always been his lucky color, it's an inside joke) get cut by the Fates when he was twelve (they were looking right at him, gee i wonder why). apollo (god of literal prophecy) took one look at him when he was fourteen and the blood drained out of his face. Luke said he'd die at sixteen. Poseidon said he'd probably die at sixteen. Chiron said he'd likely die at sixteen because the prophecy was literally so crazy specific like come on impending death is referenced at least four separate times.

thinking about how thalia and percy are the only real forbidden broken oath children. the di angelos being born before the oath, jason and hazel being roman, tyson being a cyclops...they aren't weighed down by the cruelty of the styx, the debt they have to repay for their fathers. thalia and percy are the product of a broken oath on the styx and the styx cannot punish their fathers and must go after them instead.

I honestly forgive that rick riordan wrote percy so that every character is obsessed with him for the simple reason that every time he's absolutely gobsmacked by it, every time someone tells him they like him he just looks at them back like this
