Oh sure yeah let's have this one gay kid fall in love with his childhood best friend, use his feelings and his pain as a device to develop a straight ship, then make him forcibly come out to everyone, not because he wants to nor is he ready to, but because his sexually could be weaponized against him by his assaulter. let's call his feelings for his best friend a mere crush and let's make him talk about said crush in the past tense as if he wasn't flirting with the guy like two days ago. yeah let's have this kid's feelings last for like, three seasons, and instead of making him get over it a season ago and introducing a love interest for him, we're just gonna keep him in love with the best friend and it'll have absolutely no payoff whatsoever. let's have every other character - like, really everybody else - have a romantic plotline but no the gay kid in the 80s can't find love, he has to find independence, because he can't have both, duh, that's only for straight people.
