this scene speaks to the parts of childhood mizisua each play, as well as the purpose of play itself. it's dictated by each other's desires, a reflection of themselves in the other. on the receiving end, sua becomes mizi's fragile god (fed little, weak and dependent), and mizi becomes sua's innocent doll (dressed up, lived vicariously through).

they treat each other like how they've been treated - their actions are informed by their childhoods, their only experience and therefore entire concept of the way of the world.

eating as demonstration of power: power is when you have the strength to crush someone, and as per the food chain, eat them.

correction as demonstration of power: power is the wisdom to correct and change others - it is being the enforcer of rules.

okay look. we have to engage with the metaphor. I scrolled through all the responses to this and didn't find anyone talking about it. so I will be. here. where no twitter user is finding me.

while it may be true that this may be because sua is less valuable to them than mizi / her dress is too big for her gaunt body / this pinning style has more security than mizi's, this speculation leads us nowhere in discussion. do not look for a diegetic answer from a media that presents itself mostly through visual metaphor.

sua is more progressed in her level of infection (which is another question I've seen people pose, ie, why is she further along when mizi was the first one to be turned) because her body is the primary product for her idol image. though mizi's is reliant on her body as well, her main selling point is her performance of personality, which is why she has her eyes gouged. zombification is a visual metaphor for commercialisation, in how body parts are infected and sold as product & the trauma caused by it.

also there's the central mizisua dichotomy of physical/mental. here, mizi has comparative physical agency, and a lack of mental; sua has comparative mental agency, and a lack of physical.
