I spent a long time trying to think about this. It’s really complicated and changes constantly.

Hajime was locked away completely during the tragedy. So, when he woke up with a strange presence in his head and horrifying, violating flashes of vague memory of his inexperienced life during that time, his fear coagulated into hatred.

As per the timeline, their relationship is fraught for a long time, in both directions. Izuru comes around to Hajime’s presence LONG before the inverse. If only because Izuru’s been along for less time and therefore has never truly been “alone” in their mind.

Eventually, after some years, they slot into what I guess is a cross between “siblings” and “partnership”. (I hesitate to call em siblings because they share a boyfriend lol).

They operate similarly to a DID system (it’s not true DID though, rather a fictional alternative). Both are always able to “pilot” the body at any time, but can choose to hang back and “rest” and have the other take over.

Izuru generally uses the body less, as their boredom and low tolerance for social interaction make it hard to exist around the chaotic island atmosphere. Hajime gets antsy when stuck in the passenger’s seat for too long, so it works for them.

There was a lot of confusion and jealousy at first surrounding Nagito. Having to “share” with a version of “yourself” feels…really weird. But they slot into a rhythm, and Nagito loves them both.

I’m going to preface this by saying that I am NOT transmasc or trans in any way, nor have I been in a situation even close to the one I put Hajime in in Kiko AU. I am a cisgender aroace lady. This is just my exploration of the feelings someone like him would have regarding all of this.

In short, Hajime’s perspective, especially right after waking up from the NWP, is as if from a horror movie.

I, for one, cannot imagine feeling four-ish years pass by in a blip of time then waking up to a kid. Even without explicit memories of the experience, it would feel so incredibly violating to have something squirming inside of you put there without your consent. Izuru didn’t know Hajime was still in there, but it doesn’t make Hajime feel any less hatred for them putting him in this situation. It’s a big part of the reason Hajime wants them locked away far inside their mind.

Those creepy crawly feelings of intrusion and wrongness probably come from being around Nagito. For the kid to have gotten there in the first place there’d need to be…physical intimacy. Once again, without Hajime’s consent. With a guy he knows as unstable and cruel, no less. Nagito didn’t do anything WRONG per se, as he didn’t know Hajime AND Izuru would wake up sharing a body, but I don’t blame Hajime for avoiding him too.

Of course, Kiko is not to blame for any of this. She’s just a kid. If only Hajime could stop getting shivers every time he looks at her...

Oh trust me, they’ve thought about it. Not really much else to do in the Mind Prison. They’ve run endless scenarios through their mind, but only some of them succeed, and most only temporarily.

Izuru may be uber-talented, but Hajime’s got the most quote unquote “domination” over the psyche. Izuru’s only been around for a couple years, Hajime has been around much longer.

If Izuru were to take control, it’s likely Hajime would find a way to force them back. Worst case scenario, he makes good on his promise to use something like the NWP to erase Izuru forever.

The other islanders would catch on fast, too.

At first I imagined him just coming to terms with the fact Izuru wasn’t gonna hurt anyone on his own time. But it’d be interesting if there was a specific catalyst…

So now I’m imagining Nagito, lost in delirium from a bad fever on his immunocompromised body, asking desperately for Izuru. Answering only to Servant and unaware of where he is.

So as a kinda last resort, Hajime agrees to let Izuru take over and comfort him until he stabilizes.

Considering Hajime’s fraught relationship with Hope’s Peak, he’s not comfortable assigning his kid with any “Ultimate” title, honestly. (I don’t remember calling Kiko the Ultimate Future but if I did I guess I’ve gotta retcon it).

(Edit: guess who forgot she made a post about people calling Kiko the Ultimate Future. Goldfish would be ashamed of my memory. I guess I’ll just say the term is one of endearment and isn’t official at all to Hope’s Peak or anything of the sort)

Yes! After many months, Hajime does eventually let Izuru out of their mind prison they’re stuck in (with supervision by him ofc). It’s a tearful reunion but also a complicated one. Nagito is furious that Hajime lied about Izuru being “dead,” and Kiko is happy to see Baba but NOT happy that they’ve gotta “share” a body with Hajime.

I have some sketches I haven’t posted here yet of the parents interacting with Kiko, so here you go!!

Since Hajime’s super (avoidant) busy and Nagito’s too sick/unstable to reliably take care of his kid, the burden often falls to the village around them both. How does Kiko feel about them? Time to find out

Finally decided to get procreate after years of waffling and it’s so much better omg. I finally got my creative spark back cuz my program ain’t crashing a million times.
