I think if you want to understand bigotry against aromantics, I have a good case study. Let me talk a little about my dad's family.
My dad has 4 half siblings and two step siblings. They're all a decent bit younger than him. When I was a teenager, we went to a family reunion, and I realized something—my dad did not respect his siblings. He looked down on all of them. He saw them as fuck-ups and overgrown children. My dad had the American dream: well paying management job, suburban house, wife, and three kids. My aunt and uncles did not. Excluding my aunt, none of them were married or in serious relationships. They hadn't really settled into long term careers. Several of them were working the kind of jobs that get called "Unskilled labor." So he looked down on them because the youngest one was in his thirties (and several were much older), and yet none of them had "settled down" into what he saw as lifelong, permanent careers and relationships and lives. He was polite to their faces, sure, but I heard how he talked about them behind their backs, to my mother.
And then a few years ago, we visited his brothers again for Thanksgiving. And I realized something again--he respected them now. He saw them as equals. Why? Well. All of a sudden, every single one of them had serious, committed romantic partners. They didn't even need to still be with those partners—one of my uncle's fiance passed away from cancer before they could marry—just having had one showed that they matured into a real adult participating in society. In fact, at one point, my aunt was telling my mom about how one of my uncles was no longer living in an apartment she owned, but instead, after having a steady girlfriend for about a year, he moved in with her. And my mom literally said to my aunt, "wow. Look at that. He finally grew up."
One of the lines that frequently gets repeated about anti-aspec sentiment is "why would anyone hate asexuals/aromantics/etc? They aren't even doing anything." And that's exactly it. In the eyes of amatonormative culture, we aren't doing anything. Adults are supposed to do things. That's how you become a member of society.
I know that my father will never see me as a successful adult. He will never approve of my life. And I think most people would assume that that's because I'm trans. And don't get me wrong, he sure as shit doesn't like or respect that, but I do think if given enough time, he would get used to it. He would eventually realize that it isn't going away. And if I settled down with a spouse and a respectful job and a few kids, he could see me as a successful adult that he could be proud of anyway. But of course, that's not going to happen. Because I'm aromantic. So I'm never going to do that one thing that signifies that his job is complete, and I'm officially a full-fledged adult. I will perpetually be that fuck-up kid who won't settle down. In my personal case, that's okay. My dad is a conservative piece of shit, and if he doesn't approve of you, that just means you're doing something right. But on a societal level? This kind of attitude is a massive problem. Aromantics deserve to be treated like adults, and to feel like the accomplished adults that they are. We should feel like we belong in society.
there are many fat gay women which is basically awesome
clap. clap for fat gay women

i DO believe that a good writer can make mischaracterization work. oh there's a character who doesn't normally cry? figure it out!! disect the character. make the situation cryable for them. make that character cry ugly tears even if it goes against their very nature. YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!!
A great piece of advice I've seen is "Don't fixate about what the character would never do. Think about the circumstances that would drive them to do this, even if they wouldn't normally."
Best advice ever!

we need women covered in blood more than ever
This is the best one
(in case anyone needs context, since i know there's a bunch of younguns who didn't even know the "It's gonna be May" meme... The song playing is NSync's song "It's Gonna Be Me", the guy in the mint green t-shirt is NSync member Lance Bass, and the guy in the pink hoodie is his husband Michael.)
I need to you all to know that the original caption for this is : “POV your friend mispronounces a word once and now it’s a national holiday.”
Saw this on Twitter and I obligatory need to share it
So she actually said that she does not see the appeal in Senshi at all and that the panty shots weren't intended to be horny - she just has a neighbor who looks kind of like him and does laundry in his underwear. Which she finds kind of weird and offputting, and put into his character to be funny.
But that's the thing. She doesn't exaggerate or grotesqueify or alter people's bodies to fit some standard. (Except insofar as she draws different species differently, and those are exquisitely practiced to ensure they have the same diversity of appearances that humans do.) She just presents people exactly as they are, complexities and oddities and all.
It just so happens that when you present people exactly as they are, what you present will be beautiful and alluring to many. Even the things you yourself might find weird and offputting. Honestly I think it's a touching example of how you don't have to see the beauty in everyone for the beauty to be there, simple honesty is enough to let the wonder of people's humanity shine through.
#i think we should put this post next to the interview where she said she doesn't want to eat the food in the series cuz she's a picky eater#and file them both under 'you don't know an artist from their work'#and maybe you don't need to!#maybe all you need to know is that ryoko kui is Good At What She Does#idk I don't like the implication that artists (and women especially?) can only create from personal life and feelings#some people have imagination and craft#kind of a tangent but. there you go.
no but you're very correct
There's obviously a huge disconnect from what a soldier actually is and does, and it's already hard enough getting people to acknowledge that a soldier is someone who shoots people.
But it's actually crazy just how genuinely deeply shocked people (including/especially soldiers) are when they learn that people actually shoot back at you sometimes and it's not just a one-way sorta deal.
A lot of the time "I never signed up for this" coming from an imperialist doesn't mean "I never signed up to kill people" it means "I never thought they'd start shooting back".

I don't see anyone talking about it on tumblr yet, but forums.rpgmaker.com is going down on June 18th and being deleted entirely in December.
If YOU use any RPG Maker engines or are considering using one, YOU should let them know that we don't want decades of RPG Maker support and history taken down. Especially when the intention seems to be discouraging people from using older versions. I personally still use RPG Maker MV because privately made MZ plugins are often made with AI, and the more recent RPG Maker versions they've released are Unity plugins and not their own seperate program, and I'm not interested in Unity at all.
Let them know you want an archive here:
Welcome to RPG MAKER GUILD Today, we're excited to announce the launch of RPG MAKER GUILD, the new official RPG Maker forum operated by Got
And contact the admins on the new forum:
The Official Community for Gotcha Gotcha Games Products
There's an update to the situation, GGG has decided to archive the site after a huge stink was made. Who knows how much of it will actually survive though.
There are still people working on archiving it privately, and someone else has offered their own forum as a new hub (because not many people like the new forum site that GGG has set up, and neither do I). Decent's site if anyone's interested: https://forum.electricairship.com/
As a certified AI hater, GGG's site seems pretty vibecoded and I'm heading to Electric Airship instead.
not to be vague but.

i honestly don't really understand why "some people prefer watching gameplay online rather than playing games themselves" is treated as such a taboo when being a spectator is considered a pretty mundane way to engage with most sports, game shows, reality tv or even just like. chess.
like the usual arguments are "not everyone can afford video games or have the software to pirate" or "you can be a fan of a game's story, but not it's gameplay" but also some people just have more fun watching other people be really good at starcraft or speedrun super mario 64, i don't think that's a particularly out of the box way to engage with the medium.
If someone's being loud and needlessly noisy on the street below your apartment and you happen to have an ice cube tray that makes ice cubes roughly the size of a tennis ball, and you chuck one down at them from your balcony, what are the odds of ever being caught? Like can they even prove that they correctly remember which balcony it was launched from, and the attempted murder weapon will melt before they can do anything about it.
MAN you'd hate to have me as a neighbor. I sing so loud at 3AM from the 6th floor that the whole buiding hears it.....
...why do you do that?
Because I am unfortunately awake during those hours and every single minute I'm awake I listen to music. I normally use headphones at night, but recently my headphones broke soooo...the neighbors are getting quite a concert till I fix it or get a new one.
You're waking everyone in your apartment building at 3 am because your headphones don't work?
I....don't think I'm waking anyone to be perfectly honest.
Our directly next door neighors throw soil at people's balcony at night...so I don't think my singing's doing anything.
I think your house is the place that the "oh my god I could never live in a flat, I would kill myself if I was surrounded by neighbours at all times" people think about when they imagine what it would be like to live in an apartment complex.
