Tangled, I love you, but you just barely pass the Bechdel test. If not for villainous mother Gothel, Rapunzel would have spent the entire movie only conversing with men. At the very least she could have had a conversation with her birth mother... but no.

What did they have in common?

The LAST THREE theatrically released animated Disney movies with a POC as the primary protagonist were:

Princess and the Frog (2009), Brother Bear (2003), Jungle Book 2 (2003)

Then we had

Lilo and Stitch (2002),  Emperors New Groove (2000)

What is true is that of the 9 theatrically released Disney animated movie with POC as the primary protagonist, 30% of them spent most of their movie as an animal.

Disney has come such a long way since the early days, a fact that’s clearly evident by a recently unearthed comic strip from the 1930’s showing Mickey Mouse as a homophobic thug physically assaulting an effeminate townsperson. Disney now has an openly gay President and has dumped hundreds of thousands into Orlando’s first ever annual weeklong vacation celebration for LGBT families, but it wasn’t always so gay-friendly.
