who? @lulucretias where? the top of the pyramid when? after saturnalia started
âI am probably the worst speaker of my siblings,â Dionaeia admits with a snort as she sits next to the dragon on top of the pyramid and offers her from the bottle of warm mulled wine she bought from the Holiday Market they can see on the distance, in between the buildings and the alleys. âAnd I have been told that when itâs not anger, I am unable to deal with my emotions, so I had to take some time to think what I was going to say before I sought you out.â
Itâs a soft admission, delivered with a rueful smile as she keeps her gaze before them and takes a deep breath. âStill, I am glad you are here. I am glad you chose this path,â she says slowly, carefully to lay out the words she had thought over and over before she felt ready to talk with the niece she had failed so miserably without realizing it. âAnd I am sorry I wasnât there when you needed me. I should have paid more attention to Octavin after Nettelia, butâ I guess I wanted to hide from the truth and the memories, and you were left to deal with him alone.â
It had been quite some time since she had seen Dionaeia and she honestly wasn't sure how she felt about the other Archdruid. Maybe she shouldn't have placed any blame on the woman though. It wasn't like she had forced Octavian to burn her at the stake. Plus, Lucretia really had to stop letting that moment define her. She'd have to move on from it eventually and she would always try her best to make sure that she could. At least Nettelia was somewhat helping her, but she had made it clear that she needed to do this on her own. So here she sat at the top of the pyramid stuck in her own thoughts until her dear aunt decided to pop up. "I'm tired of apologies. Please don't do that again." She took a drink from the bottle of mulled wine. "You know...I usually prefer Frosty's. My girlfriend likes the strawberry lemonades though so I kind of love them now. Just a thought for next time instead of the mulled wine."
There is tenderness in her heart as of recently sure, but something about all of this doesn't feel particularly soft, like she's being particularly vulnerable. But she is, it's just something closer to normal now after everything, it doesn't feel so terrifying anymore, or at least not with Lucretia of all people. This is the new normal for them, she thinks. "Okay but did you break up with me?" There's no humor to it, she's actually pouting because it had been something that had haunted her. In a way, Bebe had gotten to see what a life with Lucretia was really like and it wasn't.....She has changed since August released her. The idea of being rejected, heartbreak, it had once felt like the worst possible thing could happen to her. In a way it was, being alone was terrible without her or August but still, it had been done. Maybe she loves herself a little more now. She thinks she could live without Lucretia. But the thing is, she really didn't want to. "It's okay. It isn't, but it's okay." The words are weighted because she gets it but doesn't want to brush the accountability away.
There was no joking tone in either of their voices. As much as it seemed like that was always the case with Lucretia, she took things more seriously than most. She hated disloyalty. She hated not knowing if people were on her side or not. And she hated disappointing Bebe. This was her girlfriend, the woman she had accidentally fallen in love with and that somehow loved her back. She still wasn't sure why the demon had chosen her, but she didn't want to think about them being apart again. It hurt more than she could've ever realized. Nobody ever really needed someone so she wouldn't say she needed Bebe. However, she did want her around. She didn't want the other to think that she didn't care because sometimes Lucretia felt like that was all she ever did.
"No. I didn't. I was just being fucking stupid." She shook her head and looked down at her hands between them. Immediately, she grabbed Bebe's hands in her own, still not able to look up at the demon just yet. "I know it's not okay, but...I'm going to make sure I make it up to you. Because you didn't deserve how I treated you."
a starter for @lulucretias, where: don't do this to me
"Do you smoke or do you test your hearts limitations strictly with Wendy's 4 for 4?" Lucretia's anger the last time they spoke had been a palpable, a viper ready to execute him if need be. The Jackal liked to believe he had nine lives, the bias of being stuck as a prisoner within his animal form, and so he didn't hesitate at attempting to find her on the other side of all this bullshit. The Jackal didn't await an inevitable declining of the smoke, merely placed them back within his jean pockets and gnawed tensely at the unlit one between his lips. "I'm really bad at apologies," obviously, Nicolas wasn't really much good at anything except being a nuisance. Where other gifted druids thrived on the positives of their animal traits, Nicolas feasted upon the less savory; a vermin nipping at others heels, a Jackal thieving off others. Still, Lucretia was his friend whether she obstinately denied it or not, "But this shit is really complicated, Lucretia. I never meant to go against you."
"Don't." It seemed like Nicolas was always fucking there. Why was he always there? It was like he was the only one trying to keep the friendship alive. Maybe she should've been happy about that though. There weren't a lot of people willing to talk to her right now. Which was actually okay when she thought about it, but she didn't want to be some pariah. All of this was just a mess, but she was in the process of figuring it out. That didn't mean talking to the Jackal, but she had to take what she got, she guessed. "I don't really want to hear an apology, Nicolas. I've actually heard enough from myself to last a lifetime. However..." She paused and let out a sigh. Actually, she wanted to gag as the next words left her mouth. "I am..." She actually did gag that time. "What I meant to say was I'm s..." Another gag. No, she could do this. "I'msorryokay?" That would have to do. "Granted, it really felt like you were choosing dick over friendship, but you know, I kind of understand. That guy has great tits and you know I love great tits. On women, not men, but you get the point."
As often as Nettelia could she'd said that motherhood had never suited her, she frowned in the presence of babies and small children; Nettelia had no patience for their crying or their tantrums, and even if she could, the archdruid had absolutely no desire to bring one of her own into this world. Even when she'd been a humble daughter of Eden, baked from clay as her contemporaries were, they found love and they built families but she built herself into solitude. Now and then rare birds came into her life, both in Eden and after its fall. Young women who'd had their wings broken that she would take under her own, their stories varied but so many of their choices brought them to a similar place. It wasn't Oztalun who'd taught her the importance of making your own mistakes, it was these women, women she'd patch up, rear, and then find again some time later. The sum of their decisions brought about a predictable outcome.
Where Lucretia and Nettelia differed from they was in the weight of their grief and the height of their power. Whereas a mortal might find it in themselves to throw a rock in anger, when Nettelia lashed out she levelled mountains, and when Lucretia broke down she devastated entire cities. To some their power made them fortunate and certainly it made them strong, but the distillation of that power always came with a cost. In truth power like theirs was cruel because what so many did not see was the great, crushing weight of righteousness, lawfulness, and morality. When you could drop an ocean on someone why would you ever turn the other cheek? And when the very cause of your pain and the great catalyst for your grief was finally within reach, why wouldn't you seek to strangle the very life from it?
Godly blood stained Lucretia's hands, Oztalun's blood, but Nettelia herself had strode through it before and she would not fault the dragon for trying to overcome her father's oppressive thumb. Nettelia had coddled Octavian for too long, he was her brother, he would always be her brother, but she could not continue to excuse the things that he had done in the hope of returning him to the person he was before. That sweet boy she'd known back in Eden was gone, now Nettelia would have no choice but to shoulder the burden of cutting him down.
"You've no reason to apologise to me, but you're right Lucretia, nobody is going to feel sorry for you. They won't, I can promise you that. But their beliefs change nothing. No matter what anyone else might say, no matter what they might do, or what they might try to make you believe: you are our family and you will always have a place here." Nettelia could provide Lucretia with a safe place, but the only way to cleanse the other's soul would be to remove the defilement completely: her connection to the rest of the Asphodel, and her ability to transform into a dragon with it. Even then, Lucretia's memories would always haunt her, and her actions might still have consequences. "You will always have a place with me; when you walked away from the book you proved yourself the better of every other person in that room. Anyone who thinks otherwise has no idea the power it can hold over a person."
None of this felt right. Lucretia had confidence in spades. It almost felt like she had too much sometimes. Maybe that was how she had gotten into this in the first place. Maybe she really was her father's daughter. Everything she had worked so hard to not be had become everything she was. She didn't want that for herself. She didn't want to be Octavian. She wanted to be Lucretia. If that was a problem for people, then it would simply have to be. The druid wasn't sure where her soul stood or how she was supposed to be now, but she really felt like she had nothing left. How was she supposed to move on now? She had said so many times that the Asphodel was her family. They had never judged her and she had turned her back on them because...well, she still was trying to figure it out. Either way, she was lost now and she wasn't sure if Nettelia's words would ever help.
"No, I do need to apologize to you. I've treated you like shit and I shouldn't have." She rocked back and forth on her feet, not able to stand still as much as she tried. Lucretia didn't want to be lost and she didn't want to feel this much right now. But she was. She wondered if Octavian was the same. That would make her feel even worse if he had felt just as bad about his actions as she had. Brows furrowed, she shook her head. "I'm not better than any of them. I mean, I am because of the whole, you know, dragon thing. But I'm not better than them. I still did what I did." She shifted from foot to foot again. "I want to feel remorse. I want to say I'm better than my father in that way. I don't know if he's capable of feeling that feeling just as much as I don't know if I can. I want to feel bad for what I've done. I want to fix it, you know?" She shook her head. "I can't stay here because there's no way to fix it. There's no way for me to fix any of it without losing something." She thought of Bastien, of Bebe. She'd hurt them both to an extent, but how the hell was she supposed to fix it?
"I don't have a place anywhere because I don't deserve a place anywhere. I need to be okay with that, right? I need to...accept that I've made a mistake and..." She paused as she looked up at the Archdruid. "You had to fix things yourself. I shouldn't have asked you to help me because I should do it myself. I should suffer. All I did for fifteen years was drink myself into a stupor. Not even the gods wanted me dead. And that's so fucking embarrassing, you know. Like not even the gods wanted to kill me. I saw my girlfriend's fucking heart beating outside of her chest before that. You were gone. Everyone was gone. And they left me alone. They left Octavian alone and it's all just some cruel joke. I thought it would all be so easy, but it just isn't. I don't even know...What the fuck am I even talking about? Like I'm just saying shit and it's just...I really want a Baconator, you know?"

where. his house? her house? where do they live now?? who. @lulucretias
The Asphodel coven was no more. The Necronomicon was no more. While his magic remained, his oracle abilities still within his grasp, Bastien hadn't the slightest idea what to actually do. Pythia was still with them, likely within the depths of the shadows, and it was also likely something he should be doing. Blood was on his hands, of those that had remained dead and those that had come back when the timelines had been twisted. Who was to say that revenge was not on the table? That justice should have been served more heavily to many of the Asphodel members. Maybe that's why he was pacing around the living room, an unlit cigarette nearly destroyed between his fingers, "What are we supposed to do? Stand around with our dicks in our hands?" That was the saying, was it not?
Somehow, it felt like the Asphodel had not let her go yet. She didn't really expect it from Bastien given their several thousand years of friendship, but the rest of them just confused her. She had turned on them and made a choice that would probably backfire on her eventually. August was...well, currently in a padded room. Yurena had an entire coven to run now even though it was just one of her. Yurena. There was a part of her that was annoyed by the lots they had been given. Where the witch had seemed to be pardoned, she had gotten nothing. She was here sulking with no real goal other than to just keep living her life. And that fucking sucked. "Bastien, I don't know what your coven is supposed to do now. I'm not a part of it anymore. Why don't you as the Pythia?"
