ninohaines:
A hue from the windows sprinkled the hallway with warmth, but the temperature of the house left a chill caresses against Nino’s sharp cheeks. It’s still early; an arrest had been made hours before, the minute attention his father had gotten for almost getting shot disappearing away into the deep depths of darkness as Emilio Athanas stole the headlines. When the news broke out, his father had accused him with his eyes for something he hadn’t done before he locked himself up in his office angered that his memorial honoring Vidal Athanas was ruined; leaving him here to stand amidst grandeur decor and lucrative silence. Nino is no stranger to the Athanas house, neither the people that lived in it. He may be uninvited, but all his life, he has been made to feel that way, even in his own home. But here, he is not to be judged. He is here to pass his judgment.
Leaning against the entrance door, as if he is withholding anyone from entering or leaving the House on the Hill, he regards the passing person, his claim is the exhale in the silence; “The rumors can finally rest.”
Luciana dried her hands, after cleaning up the kitchen. In times of stress some people shopped, some people overate, some people even did outrageous things, she on the other cleaned. She cleaned and organized anything and everything. The light spilling into the hallway caught her eye, did someone leave the door open? Shrugging her shoulders she waltzed over to the door, to her surprise someone was standing at the entrance. His words struck her by surprise.
“I’m sorry, what rumors?” she asked.
“I don’t believe we’ve met, my name is Luciana. You are?” she asked.

It comes at Night...
orienexpress:
The light of the car guided him towards his sister and the old vehicle that he was so familiar with. It shouldn’t of surprised him so much that she was well prepared because they had been brought up to be so. They always thought rationally, practically, their Father had been the most practical man that Orien had ever met – at times it got in the way of all the stories that he liked to tell himself to make things a little better.
“Luciana,” he dipped his head in through the rolled down window before he moved around to open it and step inside. Sliding into the passenger seat he flashed her a smile, maybe in the dark it looked more real than it felt on his face. He didn’t want to tell her the truth but he had to. It hung heavy on his shoulders. It was a responsibility. “Our Mom, she’s alive. She was there, at that house,” he tells her, knowing that no matter how he says it, it will not make the thought any better. He turns to face her, although it is dark, lights dance outside, “She left us and I guess, she became their Mother instead. She was their Mom. The one who’s missing.”
She found her emergency bag, plucking out the oversized lantern, and two flashlights. She sat in her seat waiting for Orien, still hoping that he received her text. She just needed a moment, a moment of familiarity. A mess of brown hair ducked into a car, with them the familiar scent of her brother. He was so much like their father, in ways he didn’t even realize, like the way he walked or cared deeply and even his scent.
“Hey, Ori,” she let out a breath she hadn’t even realized she had been holding. His tone was so somber, maybe he’s worried or stressed...there is a lot going on, she thought to herself. A blackout wasn’t something that was out of the norm to either of them, growing up on a farm...things happened. Especially in their youth, before their father built a new house from scratch and tore down the old one, as if the house itself brought him too many memories...memories too painful to deal with.
His words rung in her head, bouncing around and around. She was alive...to be honest, that wasn’t something that shocked her. Luci didn’t think the woman actually died. Their father told them she walked out, and that’s exactly what she did. Her fingers tightened around the steering wheel, her knuckles whitening. And then, she let out a laugh.
“I’m sorry Ori, I’m not laughing at you. It’s just...it’s just I always knew she was alive. Dad said she walked out, and apparently right into the arms of his estranged brother to raise a dozen other kids, rather than the two she brought into the world...the irony of the situation,” she laughed again. “I don’t know, I always imagined that she was out somewhere in the world like Greece or Brazil or even Paris living her life the way she wanted without any strings attached. You know, every time that I’ve competed I had always imagined her in the stands cheering for me or maybe even watching me from her home...but no this woman was within driving distance,” she let out a sigh.
Luciana sunk deeper into her seat, a single tear escaped her; she looked over at her brother, “oh my God, I’m horrible. Here I am just spewing like a fire hydrant, how do you feel? I mean you knew her more than I did. How are you?” she finally asked.

It comes at Night...
@orienexpress
Luciana sucked her teeth in frustration, naturally, her phone would die in the middle of a conversation and of course during a blackout in a strange place. Sweat pooled at the nape of her neck, not because of the darkness or the pain from bumping into hard furniture. There was something rotten in the air, something wasn’t right. Hopefully, Orien received the message before her phone died.
She let out a slight sigh, attempting to find her way towards the front door. She remembered the mini-flashlight on her keys, although it was terribly dim it was better than nothing. Luciana unlocked her car, the bright flashinglights provided her with a route outside.
She turned on her car to give her brother an easier way to find her, she climbed in and dug aroung for the flashlights.
I heard a loud pop, sort of like a firecracker or firework when I was outside...I didn't know it was a shot. Is the person okay? Sorry, I was just bringing some flashlights from my truck inside with my brother.

Orien: Wow
Orien: I need to talk to you about some pretty serious stuff. Although maybe it'd be better when the power or light of day returns.
Luci: :)
Luci: Serious? Anytime you need, do you want to come with me to get the lights out of my car?
Luci: Ughh my phone is about to die, 2%
YOU WERE SOMEWHERE ELSE…
You were your Father’s daughter, he left only kindness and you and your brother when he died. He was all heart and you and your brother learned every part of yourselves from him, like a map, he led you to your destination and that destination was full of love until the end of time. You never got to hear about the alternate life you could live, about the family that lived somewhere far away. You spent your days dancing between hay bales and staring at the stars and when your Father died you were laying on his chest beneath that same night sky and promising that you would make sure you did not cry for your whole life over his absence.
BUT NOW DAD IS DEAD…
Vidal Athanas had been a legend, but as you got older you heard in your Father’s voice something more than fantastic tales, something more like waking nightmares. You never heard him talk about another that way. Your Father died a long time ago and Vidal died only recently and you never expected to have such a late introduction to those who are meant to be family. You have no burning desire to uncover the secrets behind his murder or to meet those who are suspects but your humbly oblige. Your heart has always been wide open but perhaps now, it’s time for your eyes to be the same.
WE’RE ALL FAMILY HERE…
ORIEN. brother. unconditional love, you do not know what conditions are.
cassia-athanas:
Cassia was aware that one of their siblings was most likely the murderer. They were also aware that almost all of their siblings were at the event. Not to mention the fact that Cassia couldn’t get the memory out of their head that someone had been standing over them in the middle of hte night and left Ace’s doll’s head to prove it.
So there was no way that they were taking any chances.
They had kept the small can of mace with them ever since then, just in case something happened. And the blackout definitely counted as something. Their anxiety was on edge as they held the can out in front of them, and stayed huddled in the corner because they figured it was better to stay in a room with people than go off on their own. Because nobody was going to try and hurt them if there were witnesses….right?
The thoughts were spiraling through their head when they sensed someone was in front of them, and without thinking Cassia yelped and sprayed them with mace, not really caring if they meant to hurt them or not.
Thank the heavens Luciana heard the small yelp and took a step back otherwise she would’ve been sprayed by whatever and just been shot her way.
“Jeez! Why’d you do that for? And what was that?”
sleuthcss:
It’s dark and Adina’s heart hasn’t stopped racing since the lights went out. She knows what it means — now the killer can roam free amongst them. Every noise nearly makes her jump, but in a brief moment’s exhale, she remembers that in her bag she’s got a flashlight. She had packed it for a later small investigation of her own, but right now, she’s more than glad that her lists make her overprepared.
She turns a corner, shines the light in someone’s eyes and tries to prepare again for what might come next. “Hello?”
Luciana sucked her teeth in frustration, naturally, her phone would die in the middle of a conversation and during a blackout. Shrugging her shoulders, she attempted to find her way towards the front door. She smacked her forward when she remembered the mini-flashlight on her keys and with the sound of my car she’d be able to easily find the exit and return with the lantern and flashlights.
“Eep!” the sound escaped her as quickly as the bright light flashed her. She shielded her eyes with her palm. “Hi, would you mind lowering your light please,” she said.
bluebxll:
“Thank you,” Bluebell said, her words probably very clearly insincere. She snapped her shot, and a few more after that. She gave a tight, small smile toward the other girl. “Bluebell. Pleasure to meet you, Luciana. Should I assume you’re another of the children, or an outsider like myself?” She put her phone down in her lap. “Not necessarily. Just aesthetics, really.”
“Oh no problem,” she said with a flick of her wrist. Luciana smiled warmly completely oblivious of the tone of the other. “ The pleasure is all mine, but I am somewhere in the middle you could say, I’m one of the cousins,” she responded.
“How do you know everyone?” she asked.

Which one of your cousins are you most suspicious of?
“None. I don’t have a reason to be.”
