They’ll ask you to describe how you feel, but it’s depression and to attach a single emotion or word to it is impossible. And when you fail to accurately describe the uncertainty that is an unwelcome constant inside of your body, they’ll somehow mistakenly correlate that with inaccuracy and incorrectness. ‘If you can’t describe it, then how do you know you’re really depressed? Maybe you’re just stressed. Lots of people get stressed that doesn’t mean they are depressed. So how do you know that you’re actually depressed?’ I guess I don’t in those terms. If accuracy ultimately means validity, then my credibility is shot. All I know is I don’t feel at home in my own bones, so tell me again how am I to correctly answer a question about myself when most days I don’t know who I am?
