What if Olruggio has actually never had his memory erased? What if he's just pretending for the sake of keeping Qifrey from treeing out?
Ever since I caught up with the manga, I've been coming back to that one part where Qifrey first erased Olruggio's memory when they were kids. Something about that scene keeps nagging me.
After Olruggio notices that they've switched their cap accessories, he confronts Qifrey. Qifrey snaps at him, wanting to keep the accessories switched. What I find odd here is Olruggio's reaction to this. He just drops it and lets the accessories stay the way they are. He doesn't even question why Qifrey would want to do something so random, which is pretty out of character for Olruggio.
During the whole flashback, we see that Olruggio understands Qifrey quite well. How did he not find it at least a little weird that Qifrey, this traumatised kid who usually only keeps to himself, switched their hat accessories for no reason? Olruggio's decision to ignore it makes me believe that he actually didn't forget anything. He only pretended to make Qifrey feel horrible.
How is that possible? I think that maybe there is some sort of spell that nullifies another spell's effects. Maybe Olruggio used the nullification spell on himself before allowing Qifrey to 'erase' his memory.
But wait, why would Olruggio also constantly pretend to find out about this huge secret if he already knows everything? Why has he allowed Qifrey to 'erase' his memories so many times? I like to believe that Olruggio does this as a way of keeping Qifrey stressed. Whenever Qifrey appears a bit too at peace, Olruggio stages a conversation that would trigger Qifrey to erase his memory at the end.
Olruggio has actually been looking for a cure for years behind Qifrey's back. The reason he's so exhausted isn't because of his work but because he spends every moment of his free time looking for some kind of cure. I think this also might be the reason as to why we barely ever see his POV.
