Love love love characters that present themselves as emotionally open social butterflies but the more you see of them the more obvious it is that they’re the most closed off fuckers in the story. Sure, they want to help you with your personal problems and messy emotions, but if you turn that shit back on them, they’ll shut down or deflect every time. Why are you sticking your nose in their business anyway? It’s not like it matters. They’re not a person, they’re just a role being played. They’re the guy who fixes things and saves people. Please ignore the man behind the mask, he’s fine. Everything’s fine.

because it already was a real world. because the humans and all the life of the earth and the angels and demons were already real. just because they were created by a sadistic, psychopathic omnipotent being for a cynical, selfish purpose does not mean those people didn't have free will, and it certainly doesn't mean they weren't real. that was the whole point of the apple business, that was the whole reason that Aziraphale and Crowley could never really change them, try as they might to follow the orders of their respective head offices (or not). it's why Adam Young didn't need an upbringing by a demon to make mistakes with his power, or an upbringing by an angel to choose to reject it. he was already human, and real. it's why Crowley and Aziraphale loved each other at all, because they were already real, too, and yeah, they also had free will, which is why they chose "to the world", and each other. the point is that it was all worth saving, whatever its flaws.

I utterly reject the ill-conceived, capitalist, nihilistic, filmed & aired "finale" of this story as the anti-life, anti-humanist propaganda that it is.

the world is always worth saving, no matter who or what has tampered with, exploited, or tried to destroy it. that was & is the real message of Good Omens.

Well, that would require the audience to know that film. I get the sentiment, sure, and I love that.

It would have been nice, however, to see a direct callback instead of having to rely on a hindsight reference to a film that someone else had to tell me about.

I will say this, though: it's very clear that season 1 of gomens was intended to be the only version of the story when it aired. Gaiman may have had other vague ideas for a continuation in the back of his mind, but gomens was originally greenlit by Amazon for a single season with the assumption that this was all it was going to be. Therefore, season 1's ending of the world being saved and Aziraphale and Crowley having forever was written to be canonical. The fact that this idiot retconned things years later doesn't change that, when he did write in all those extra scenes of Aziraphale and Crowley throughout the millennia, they were written with the intention to matter. In the s1 universe, their time together mattered and never got erased.

I think it's hard to ignore official episodes for a lot of people (including me lol), but you can honestly say the happy ending of s1 can be considered the true ending and everything else can be disregarded, if you want. After all, the book was considered to be a standalone work for decades, and that ended happily

Something else that bothers me is that when given the chance to “say goodbye”, the writers didn’t give them anything. Nothing.

Yes, a look communicating love is beautiful but COME ON. They already got NO chance for resolution. They barely talked all season about what they needed to say. And their final moments, 6000 years, were wrapped up so fast that I swear I blinked and they were gone.

If they didn’t want to say it in front of God and Satan, they could have said it in their moments of privacy. They could have stepped up to each other at the exact same moment, reached for each other, pressed their foreheads together, something. The finger kiss was sweet but it just… didn’t feel like enough.

It just feels like the writers were asleep at the wheel.

They should have never, ever included a kiss in season two if they were going to do what they did in season three.

Season two’s promo was their wings making a heart. They spent the entire season surrounded by romance. They spent the entire season being told by human lovers that they needed to say to each other what they really felt.

And then they kissed.

Yes, it was a bad kiss. It was messy and desperate and hurtful, but it was a kiss.

To then go on to season three and not once acknowledge it and never let them kiss again in a way that was full of tender love is honestly disgraceful.

You can make all the arguments you want about not needing kissing or sex to show romantic feelings, but if that was the case they should have never included it in season two.

Honestly, I think the biggest reason why I feel so hollow isn’t even the ending. I could get behind the ending if not for something that deeply bothers me:

We never got a proper, earned resolution to the conflict of season 2.

And I know a lot of this was time constraints, and I have grace for that, but it still was a massive disservice that they should have found a way around because what they gave us actively hurt its main characters.

We never got to see the real reason why Aziraphale went to Heaven and what his plans were to make a difference. In that elevator, he was an angel on a mission. And all we got was angry, yelling Gabriel 2.0.

We never saw him truly acknowledge the kiss.

We never saw him acknowledge Crowley’s pain. In the alleyway, he basically told him to get up and help him.

We had to watch him tell Crowley that he was only really there to have Crowley help him find Jesus.

That is what hurts.

That is what makes their end ‘confession’ ring hollow and cold. I needed Aziraphale to tell Crowley he was what completed him, not God. Not Satan. He needed to look Crowley in the eye and finally communicate it. He needed to finally own up to what all those humans said, which was that they never talk to each other.

But we didn’t get that and so it left off feeling like Crowley was still lost and depressed when they made the choice to put humanity first. Until his last moments he didn’t get what he deserved.

All I wanted was for Crowley to know he was always chosen.

I'm not gonna even make a post arguing about the end of the show, whether you liked it or not, it isn't even what hurts most for me. What actually upsets me most is how OOC Crowley and Aziraphale felt. Because what do you mean they really wrote Aziraphale saying "then I wouldn't have needed (you)" without adding anything more? No, I don't need it spelled out for me to know that these two love each other. Anyone with eyes can see it. But it feels cold and hollow to write dialogue in which Aziraphale carelessly tells Crowley to get up after finding him in an alley and then later tells him he wouldn't have needed him unless it was to find Jesus. What are we even doing here? Because that does, actually, make it feel like Aziraphale cares a lot less about Crowley than he does. Aziraphale is messy, but he's not cruel and they wrote him in an extremely unflattering way. He did not feel like the Aziraphale from seasons 1 and 2.
