they should invent fathers who aren't misogynistic
i always liked pond but me and thee has cemented him as a top tier hall of BL famer. I now have the urge to know everything about him, he seems so golden retriever lmao.
siblings are so strange. sometimes i can't stand the presence of my brother but the first nightmare i remember, the only nightmare which has ever made me jolt awake, is him dying. i have complained about him more than i ever complain about anyone but he just moved to a different continent and i get a lump in my throat everytime i think about it. he was my first enemy but also my first friend. he is older but not wiser, but even then when he hugs me i feel like everything will be fine. no one has seen me cry more than he has. it is so strange, to feel so much love for someone you are fated to let go of. he is the keeper of my secrets, the staunchest of my defenders and my lifelong best friend. how do you let go of the hand of the person who held it first.
Yes, I agree that Jiang Cheng is a sympathetic character. Ofcourse he is. Every villain of MDZS is sympathetic. But that doesn't stop them from being the villain.
MDZS at its core is a story concerning the morals of a society. And all the villains (JC, Xue Yang, JGY) prioritise themselves when faced with an ethical dilema. JC refuses to save the Wen Remnants, Xue Yang repeatedly traumatises Xiao XingChen, JGY kills multiple people including his wife and son in order to maintain his political position.
Yes they have people in their lives they care about and yes they have been dealt an unfair hand. But that doesn't excuse their lack of a moral compass. And thats why they are the antagonists.
In Wei Wuxian's words, their feelings are just trash

As much as I love and appreciate fandom metas, especially in mxtx fandoms, a lot of times I find myself thinking "the book is deep but not THIS deep". There are many layers, but there is clear intention from the author in portraying things a certain way. Acting like Wei Wuxian is a villain and Jin Guangyao is a poor meow meow who did all of this because he was poor just detracts from the fact that both characters had a certain level of autonomy and they used it in very different ways. Despite his flaws, Wei Wuxian used his abilities to help the innocent. Jin Guangyao, despite how much he sufferered, chose to murder and destroy lives because he wanted to be at the top. His background humanizes him, it isn't intended to justify his actions.
I'm yet to see someone saying that WWX was the villain while JGY was an innocent victim 🤔
I mean, I'll bite.
(your regular disclaimer that characters in fiction do not have autonomy. wwx and jgy, as fictional characters, have exactly as much autonomy as the warrior princess who wears a chain mail bikini into pitched battle because it makes her feel confident or whatever.)
I think it probably isn't meant to be that deep, yeah! I think if you asked mxtx about it, she'd say that the harm wwx does (torture, murder, etc) isn't meant to suggest moral failure because he's the -- oh, let's say hero for lack of a more specific term: his intentions are good, his heart is pure, and he only hurts (or wants to hurt) terrible people who have done cruel things on purpose. when he does things that help people, he doesn't have selfish motives, and (mostly) when he does things that hurt people, it's unintentional.
similarly, I think if you asked her about jgy, she'd say that his heart is not pure, his intentions are not good, and he hurts innocent people for selfish reasons, which means that the good he does is incidental and not relevant to the question of whether he's a good person.
there's nothing wrong with stopping there, y'know?
but there's also nothing wrong with looking at a book and going "okay, here's what the author meant to say, here's what the author accidentally implied, here's what the author intended but I disagree and here's how I'm gonna fight my case," etc etc etc.
when I say "whew wwx is a hot mess" I never mean "and that's why he's a terrible person/the villain", I mean "hahaha and that's fucking awesome! bb boy is so full of love and trauma and he makes terrible decisions about it! incredible! god I love it when characters have hearts that are five sizes too big for their bodies and shoot themselves in the foot about it!"
jgy isn't my blorbo but my general read on the jgy enjoyers isn't that they think he's actually an innocent victim, but that he's the one making desperate or pragmatic decisions in ways that other characters are unwilling to or don't have to, and he should be granted at least the same leeway we all give wei "if I want to kill all of you, what exactly are you gonna do about it" wuxian.
@jin-zixun yeeahhh exactly.
like. *sigh* okay inflammatory statement incoming, right, but: I don't think it's unfair to say that wwx and jgy have pretty similar body counts. I think 3000 people dead in nightless city was an obvious exaggeration but I think it's fair to say a lot of people died.
(don't shoot! hear me out)
and yeah, trust me, I am aware that the bulk of wwx's body count (outside of the war) was various manslaughters after being backed into various corners by people attempting to murder him. absolutely. sure.
as opposed to jgy, who committed various premeditated murders specifically to advance his own goals and interests (and I think it's important to note that one of jgy's primary goals is to find and keep a position where people are no longer trying to murder *him*.)
the book argues that this makes jgy a worse person than wwx*.
inflammatory discussion question (everyone who's been in this fandom longer than I have, I apologize if we've wanked this out already): how convincing is this argument?
which is to say: to what extent does intent actually matter?
which is to say: who's more dangerous: the guy with no political acumen or desire to learn, the guy who escalates every situation like it's his job, the guy with the nuke that makes people go crazy who consistently loses his shit in ways that end with escalating body counts, or the guy who's taking out threats to himself on purpose?
which is to say: if wwx had been a little less pure of heart and a little more intentional with the murder, would the wens have survived? (I mean, I think no. but it's interesting to consider.)
Please correct me if I am wrong because I am slightly fuzzy on the details, but why is it assumed that the actions done by JGY were purely in self preservation? I don't think we can believe all his claims at Guanyin Temple, because A) He was already established as a manipulative character and B) He was trying to convince LXC, his only potential ally, of his innocence. I am genuinely asking because from how I interpreted the text (purely subjective), it doesn't seem like we are supposed to believe everything he says.
And once again, I am fuzzy on the details, but the curse on Jin Zixun, or even the killing of Nie Mingjue doesn't make sense as an act of protection, because if I recall correctly, JGY had been in the process of somewhat regaining the trust of NMJ, which would have allowed him to turn the situation in his favour. Also, if we do talk about his primary motive to get to a position of safety, how do we determine what this position is? Is Chief Cultivator the only position where he is truly safe? Or would the future reign of Jin Zixuan, who treated him better than his father did, mean a better, safer position for JGY, if he had bided his time? Power means safety, absolutely, but at what point do we say his actions stopped being for protection and started being solely for power? I think that depends a lot of how individuals intepret the Guanyin Temple scene, so there won't be an objective answer.
In matters of intent, I am unfortunately a corp lawyer who really misses studying criminal law, and any discussion of mens rea will have me rambling way more than anyone would want. So to summarize my views, I would say intention matters because without intention it becomes very difficult to determine the morality of any action ( basic example would be why there is a lesser punishment for manslaughter than for culpable homicide). How dangerous someone is does matter, but your culpability for causing that danger again ties back to intention. (which is why someone who is legally unsound may be more dangerous than a legally sound person, but is seen as less culpable) (also relevant is that it is indicated that WWX, by a point, had become unstable, and while not unsound, was not fully in his right mind either).
Basically, from my perspective, WWX made horrible, horrible choices, which caused a lot of damage. If he had done so with malice, the consequences would be far far worse, and I agree, the Wens would not have survived because it would have triggered even worse escalation. JGY also made horrible, horrible choices., some of them out of necessity. But as per my interpretation (again, very subjective), he didn't just do it with the aim of self-preservation, he did it with malice, for political gain. And intention cannot be eliminated as a relevant consideration, because once we do that, we reach a slippery slope of essentially legal and moral chaos (not going to expand because I guarantee, I will end up rambling, but this is the most agreed upon perspective in most branches of jurisprudence, not sure about it works in moral philosophy).
Really sorry about how all over the place this reblog is, just putting my thoughts out there. TLDR; The veracity of JGY's claims is doubtful, and his actions show malicious intention. Intention absolutely matters, and that is what sets WWX and JGY apart.

Babe has trauma from years of abuse, Charlie is desperately trying to find a cure for his literal dying brother, Jeff and Unc are kinda doing fine until one of them does something inevitably stupid, North and Sonic are acting 12, Pete is fucking NotWay!, NotWay! exists, and somehow the most communicative people on this show are a trafficker, two men playing house, and a boy who just got out of prison for trying to murder someone…eYE.
sometimes a peacful property gifset shows up on my feed and i am momentarily blinded by tay tawan's absolutely lethal, generational face card.
On a sidenote, he is also so babygirl. would love a show where he just gets manhandled by new like he does irl.
Traditional families are OUT, liberal families are IN:
1) two lesbian moms
2) a french guy you’re secretly in love with
3) the cardboard cutout of a dog

I thought that Jeremy couldn't be an addict because that would make him "too much of a fox" and the trojans didn't have criminal or public, stigmatised problems but in actuality I think it's a great way to explore how wealth defines these labels. The foxes are constantly maligned for being problem cases but Jeremy is the captain of the trojans because of blatant bribery and abuse of power. Jeremy suffers horrific consequences for his actions, in the form of homophobia, shame, guilt, emotional and fincancial abuse and control. But he is able to avoid the worst practical consequences (serious jail time, let alone suspension from school, loss of his Exy career) because of his parents influence and wealth. He is able to get clean because of their wealth. Whereas the foxes are 'junkies and criminals' for their entire career and are only allowed a shot at a better life if they're lucky because Wymack puts his neck out for them. I think it's genius to have us guess and wait for book two because it emphasises this disparity.
pete and kenta's story is so sad man. the flashbacks with pete are the only time you ever really see kenta happy and hopeful and just a person and not a weapon. and then pete leaves. the only person he loves, the only person who makes him happy leaves. and kenta is stuck.
and they still care for each other so much! pete believes kenta can be better. kenta warns pete to stay away because he doesn't want him hurt. there is so much love there. and when kenta finally breaks the cage he has been trapped in and does the right thing, he goes to jail and pete is all heartbroken over way. the love exists but it isn't enough. it has never been enough.
imagine this. you are win metawin, young and famous and rich. you have a cool older friend and co-star who is also young and famous and rich and a badass who has a cool image. and then your friend gets a co-star and undergoes the most drastic princessification ever. his my melody obsession comes to public light. he sulks every chance he gets. people realize how babygirl he is. you realize how babygirl he is. all because of his new co-star.
win is better than me, I would be airing his business out because what do you mean my friend had a whole other personality that no one knew about. that, ladies and gentlemen, is skynani brainrot.
Excellent news! Ohm and Nanon are allowed to be friends in public again!
And everyone literally cheered!
Gawin recorded it and put it on his IG story 🤣:
Here's a compilation of everyone losing their minds. Gemini was ecstatic, Satang literally followed them clapping. I love them all:
*please internet gremlins don't make it weird for them*
gemini is me i am gemini
Accidentally went down the skynani rabbit hole and now I am stuck. Nani is so adorable?? And the fact that he knows Sky is extra gentle with him, because he finds Nani extra cute and soft?? And he is also so clumsy? What a cutie.
Also obsessed with the fact that Nani gets mad at Sky for never remembering Kuromi's name, and is constantly in his IG comments demanding for him to send photos, while Sky is always begging him for photographer credit. Sky being the Nani-whisperer and speaking for him when he doesn't want to, he is the friend every introvert deserves.
Just loving the golden retriever black cat dynamic, its adorable and one of the nicest surprises to come out of GMMTV this year. They clearly like each other a lot and it shows in their chemistry.
