I think Rachel and Chloe tend to build up from passive aggressive back and forth into explosive confrontations if things go unresolved for too long. Honestly, they both probably instigate shit the same amount.
I think Rachel is more likely out of the three of them to call someone out when she's annoyed or address things directly unless it's something she feels too vulnerable about. Chloe definitely leans more into being passive aggressive and/or acting up when she's upset - she's more likely to start shit if she's had a few drinks compared to Rachel.
Rachel is GREAT at being really mean. She's so calculated and really knows how to cut someone down but I think she'd really regret it after. She's also way more sensitive than she wants to admit and it's easy to hurt her feelings badly, especially when someone buys into the lie she projects about being untouchable. I think the hardest thing for Rachel is to feel like she's not really being seen.
Chloe is more prone to lashing out because she feels wounded or wronged. Can edge into pity party territory. There's a lot of misdirected self-loathing when she's in a bad place that can make it hell on the people who want to be close to her.
Max is probably the most avoidant. She gets in her own head a lot and clams up. Out of all three of them, Max is the least comfortable with being angry. I think she'd honestly prefer just being sad.*
*EXCEPT FOR - in a canon/canon adjacent timeline I think Max would struggle a lot more with more frequent bouts of anger, as a result of the time fuckery trauma. I think a Max who'd been through all of that would skew more reactive and less passive
I think her being angry is a lot of shutting people out and withdrawing. This drives Chloe crazy bc of her abandonment issues and it drives Rachel crazy because her style is much more taking shots at each other back and forth and Max doesn't really participate there.
I think early on in the relationship, Rachel is the last person to break in an argument. She'll hold out the longest as a matter of pride. But the longer they're together the more that changes and eventually she's the first person willing to put shit aside and try to patch things up.
Chloe feels like a crier. Like she tears up in arguments sometimes and gets frustrated but I also think she's most ready to break down when they're making up. It is HARD to stay mad at Chloe because she's soooo kicked puppy.
Max is probably the most emotionally reticent, actually. Chloe's very expressive (for better or worse) and Rachel has pretty solid communication skills, but I think this is one of the areas Max feels inadequate at for a long time. It takes a lot of encouragement and a lot of resolved fights that don't end the world before she realizes she's allowed to just say how she's feeling bluntly and that the other girls will navigate around that. I also think Max takes the fights the hardest and thinks about them the most afterwards.
Chloe and Rachel in particular are all about makeup sex. They're both stupid and horny and really tactile and I think affirming a really strong emotional/physical connection that way does a lot to soothe them. Not to say Max doesn't also have those moments or benefit from that, but I think making up for her is more about being babied/babying her girlfriends. Going out of her way to do little things to underline how much she cares, being really moved by little acts of intimacy and thoughtfulness they show her after the fact. It's really just about reassurance as much as possible for all three of them all the way down though
