La festa dei vivi 7, Roma, 2016

La notte tra il primo e il due novembre 2016, come da tradizione, si è celebrata, per la prima volta a Roma, “La Festa dei vivi (che riflettono sulla morte)”, giunta quest’anno alla sua settima edizione.

Emilio Fantin, Luigi Negro, Giancarlo Norese, Cesare Pietroiusti e Luigi Presicce, a partire dal 2010 (anno in cui si è svolta la prima edizione della festa, nel contesto del programma AND AND AND per Documenta 13) propongono di trasformare la consueta celebrazione dedicata ai defunti in una nuova “Festa dei vivi”, per sottolineare una riflessione condivisa e non stereotipata verso un comune destino, attraverso un breve viaggio fatto collettivamente, verso “un limite mite”. La Festa dei vivi è per coloro che, per dare senso alla vita, riflettono sulla morte; la loro propria morte, prima di tutto.

La camminata si è svolta la notte tra il primo e il due novembre, con appuntamento a Porta San Sebastiano; i partecipanti, circa una settantina, attraverso l’Appia Antica sono giunti al Parco della Caffarella.

Qui, prima tutti insieme e poi divisi in gruppi, hanno cercato un luogo caratterizzato da buio e silenzio. Alla fine, si sono tutti ritrovati, nel "boschetto sacro" del parco, a condividere impressioni e pensieri su quanto appena vissuto, sorseggiando nocino e mangiando fave dei morti.

L’assenza di luce e di rumore può esser vista come un limite fra il vivente e il non-vivente, un limite che, pur se attraverso una paradossale sospensione dei sensi, ci è consentito di sperimentare, addirittura giungendo a una accentuazione e a un approfondimento delle percezioni.

Il senso implicito di questa ricerca collettiva del buio e del silenzio è quello di fare un pellegrinaggio verso un luogo che avvicini alla morte insieme ad altri ovvero verso un luogo dove, per così dire, "morire insieme".

Un limite mite

Silenzio e buio sono il limite fra l’essere e il nulla, fra il senso e l’insensato, fra le sensazioni e la loro assenza, fra il vivo e il morto.

La “festa dei vivi (che riflettono sulla morte)” è giunta alla settima edizione e si svolgerà nella notte fra il primo e il 2 novembre 2016 a Roma. Per questa edizione cercheremo un luogo che non conosciamo ancora: un luogo aperto, all’interno della città, dove siano buio e silenzio.

A Mild Border

Silence and darkness are the border between being and nothing, between meaning and senselessness, feelings and their absence, the living and the dead.

The Celebration of the Living (who reflect upon death) has arrived at its seventh edition, and it will take place in the night between November 1st and 2nd, in Rome. For this occasion we will look for a place that we do not know yet: an open place, within the city, where darkness and silence lay.

In the crypt of the Cabaret Voltaire a set will be constructed with the aim of shooting the first scene of a film. In this scene five non-professional actors will be invited to interpret and repeat the personal obsessions of the five components of “Lu Cafausu” who will take the role of directors. The public will be very close to the action and, at times, will inevitably become part of it.

Through this film the five artists will be confronted with their own self, their mirrored images, their contradictions.

100 years of Dada and Cabaret Voltaire «165 celebration days: Obsession Dada»

The 5th of February 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of Cabaret Voltaire. We will celebrate the first century of Dadaism with a sequence of 165 holidays and a manifestation of our obsession with the art movement known as Dada. Focussing on a ritualised approach to the three subjects of dadalogy, academy and art, we aim to transform the Cabaret Voltaire of today and turn it into the legendary artists’ haunt and cultural venue it used to be 100 years ago. In doing so, we gather momentum from the original Dadaists, letting them inspire and teach us while reflecting on the philosophical concepts of art and society and enlisting the help of artists to ignite their obsession as a source of energy.

Right on time for the 100th anniversary, we will open in Cabaret Voltaire’s crypt the exhibition entitled Obsession Dada, co-curated by Adrian Notz and Una Szeemann, based on documents from the archives of the late great curator Harald Szeemann. For Obsession Dada, documents about his “Museum of Obsessions” and “Agency for Spiritual Guest Work” will be published. “I see this show as an expedition towards the many intentions of obsession. And on this journey I encounter many wonderful islands“, says Una Szeemann. An extensive installation, conceived by Una Szeemann in collaboration with Markus Kummer, will create a stage for obsessions in the shape of weekly performances, readings and manifestos. Kicking things off on 5 February 2016 will be the Lu Cafausu Collective, followed by Oppy De Bernardo & Aldo Mozzini, Garrett Nelson, Domenico Billari, Thomas Hirschhorn, Marcel Janco, Carlos Amorales, Michele Robecchi, Gianni Motti, Shana Lutker, Nedko Solakov, Pilar Albarracin, Lily Reynaud Dewar, Grupo EmpreZa, Giovanni Morbin, Königreiche von Elgaland-Vargaland (KREV) and many more.

Obsession Dada is meant to be a platform for contemporary statements, as we hope to create a ground for the expression of obsessions, having the Cabaret Voltaire as a centre for intensions.

Il 2 novembre 2015, come da tradizione, si celebra La Festa dei vivi (che riflettono sulla morte), giunta alla sua sesta edizione. Vi invitiamo anche quest’anno a seguirci, con la sola certezza che ci accoglierà l’inaspettato.

La vena nomadica pervade ancora il nostro procedere, ma questa volta misureremo l’orizzonte su architetture di pietra e di pensiero.

Le voci delle comunità di visibili e invisibili continueranno a farsi sentire? Accetteranno di condividere con noi l’odore di un agrumeto nero, disegnato dalle geometrie di un hortus conclusus? Riecheggeranno da cavità sotterranee, non descritte in alcuna mappa catastale, a indicarci una via, un pertugio segreto o magari a celarlo, ingannandoci?

Assieme ascolteremo l’eco dei sussurri e dei canti di chi ha abitato quelle stanze dalle altissime volte, per rinviarli da un terrazzo, come vapore o fumo, al tramonto.
